Chapter One
Ariana sighed. It was time to head back to her parent’s house for the family vacation they had every single year. It was something that she despised, and apparently, this time her stepbrother Chris would be joining them. They were going to go up to Wisconsin ad stay at one of the biggest waterpark resorts in the area. She knew that it would probably be fun for a bit, but all Ariana wanted to do was just go home and sleep. She didn’t want to deal with family, but rather she felt like it was something being forced onto her more than anything else. Of course, Ariana knew that she didn’t want to piss off her parents. As a college kid, right now she was relying on them, for they paid for most of her stuff while she hit the books.
But Ariana didn’t want to deal with family time. She didn’t want any of that crap. Their family was pretty much broken anyways. Ever since her mom remarried to the new guy, everything had been tense. Hell, she hadn’t even seen her stepbrother since he left the house a few years ago, and it was painfully obvious that he wasn’t the type who wanted to sing little campfire songs with his parents. She wondered what happened to him, but when she got to her parent’s house and knocked on the door, the most shocking thing happened.
In front of her was probably the hottest guy she had ever laid her eyes on. This was her stepbrother? She hadn’t seen him since he was 18 and moved out, and she was 21 now and he was 23. He was attractive as hell, and Ariana felt her lips start to get dry with lust at the sight of him. His brown hair had a sort of surfer look to him, and the bulging muscles made it obvious that he worked out. The one thing that hypnotized her more than anything though, the selling point on this random hunk in her parent’s house, was those blue eyes.
Goddamn, those blue eyes were something that dreams were made out of. She blushed as she looked at him, and the man that she assumed to be her stepbrother spoke.
“Ariana?” he asked.
“That’s me. You’re Chris?” she replied. It was creepy as hell to even have to ask that, but this was not the man that left their house all those years ago. Puberty hit him like a truck, and it hit him late.
He enveloped her into a hug, embracing her hard. She held him as well, and they stayed like that for longer than she expected.
“It’s been way too damn long. How you been?” he asked.
“Pretty good. Surprised to see that you’re here. Guess the parents decided that you needed to come along too, eh?” she replied. She knew that he wasn’t the type that liked to be roped into things.
“That’s right. Your mom and my dad were insistent about me coming. So I took off a few vacation days, and now I’m here. But I’m happy to see you. Man, it’s been years,” he replied.
“Sure has,” she said. She was happy to see him as well. It was obvious that he had become hotter with time, and she felt almost plain in comparison. Not that she was or anything. In fact, she was the type of girl most men craved for, and she loved that in a sense. But seeing her stepbrother stop dead in his tracks and stare at her made her excited, and for a moment, neither of them spoke.
“Well we should head on in. They’re insistent upon leaving soon,” he replied.
She nodded. They had a five-hour drive to the waterpark hotel, and she wondered what might happen. It was strange, but she was excited for this. His hand brushed against hers, leaving her with a flushed face. This was going to be one long trip.
When she got inside, her mother smiled, enveloping her in a huge.
“Hey there dearie. Glad you could make it. I can’t wait to take you up there. There’s trails, various shops, and even a go-kart track. Plus the waterpark is amazing,” she said.
Ariana nodded. “Well I’m happy to be here,” she lied. Honestly, she just wanted to spend time with the hunk that she had for a stepbrother, and he continued to steal gazes at her.
“So my dear, are you ready to go?” she asked.
“Yeah I’m ready,” she replied.
“The back is full of stuff, so I want you and Chris to sit next to each other. Is that okay?” she asked.
She blushed. Ariana knew this was only going to make things worse. It’s not like she had a complete choice in the matter however.
“It’s fine. I’m just happy that I’m here with you,” she replied.
Ariana was mentally freaking out. She brought her electronics to use while driving, but she didn’t want to
sit next to him. It was going to make things much more awkward, and that minivan, although big, was going to be filled with all their crap.
She brought her stuff to the car, taking one of the captain’s chairs. Chris did the same thing, grabbing his phone and playing with it. Ariana looked over at him, and he smiled.
“What did you bring?” he asked.
“My computer, phone, portable gaming system, and I was thinking of watching a few movies. I also brought my reader so I could read some stuff. You?” she asked.
“Same. So what you reading?” he asked.
I showed him the new fantasy book that I found online. “It’s this new and intriguing book. It’s something that very few have read, but I really like the premise of it. It’s definitely one that I recommend,” she replied.
“That’s so cool. I love fantasy books,” he said.
Ariana blushed. She forgot how much she had in common with the man. Her parents got in the car with their own bags, and then they set out. There was something about this that she liked, and Ariana was ready for whatever was to come. It was strange, but she felt comforted at the fact that she was going to not only be with her parents, but her stepbrother as well.
Her parents pretty much left them alone, and Ariana and Chris were in their own little world. She forgot how much they had in common back in the day, and she felt like she was young once again. She felt like she was 16, when she realized that her stepbrother was a close friend to her.
They talked about some of the games that they played, and she was surprised to hear that he still gamed frequently. Thankfully he wasn’t the type who just played those stupid online games with others, but instead still played action games with a plot and ones that many didn’t play. She wondered how she got so lucky, to have a stepbrother that had a decent gaming taste, and they continued to connect once again.
“Do you want to play a game together?” he asked.
It was one of those racing games, and Ariana agreed. They did so, both of them bantering at one another. It was something that made them feel like their life was the same, and it was something that made her happy. She wondered what was next, and she knew that it was going to be something that would get better as time went on.
The time passed like lightning, and soon they were there. Neither of them did much, just talked like old times. When they got out, Chris looked at her with a smile, and for a moment, she thought that he was going to kiss her.
“I’ve missed you. I forgot how awesome you were, and it’s great to finally connect once again,” he said.
“Same here. I hope we get to do more of that this trip,” she replied.
He smiled, giving her a hug. “I plan to,” she replied.
The two of them walked with their parents over to the entrance, but little did they know that this would be the start of an interesting vacation, and one that they would never forget.
Chapter Two
To say the hotel was huge was an understatement. This place was bigger than anything Ariana had ever been to before, and when Chris and her walked inside and saw the expanse of the place, she knew that it was certainly going to be better than anything she had been to in the past. The place had an expansive restaurant, with many seats, and even a lounge area. She could spot an arcade area in the distance, and a giant convention center. Needless to say though, the two of them wanted to go to the waterpark, which was one of the largest out there
“This is going to be awesome!” Chris said.
Ariana agreed. Although she wasn’t a huge fan of hanging out with her family, the idea of being with her stepbrother in a place like this excited her to no end. She couldn’t wait for what was to come, and after a couple of moments, they got their keys. She looked at her mom, who gave them each a keycard.
“We planned on having everyone in one room, but I think that would be a bit awkward. Why don’t you and Chris stay in one room, and us in another?” she asked.
She gave Ariana the card, who blushed at the concept of this. Her mom was agreeing to put them in one room together. She just hoped that there were two beds.
When they got up to the room however, when Ariana opened it, there was only one. She wanted to be angry, but instead she was kind of excited.
“What in the world? Why is there only one bed?” she asked.
“Beats me. Did you plan this?’ he asked.
Ariana blushed. It’s not like she was compiling or anything, but she definitely didn’t have the skill to plan this.
“Not at all. But hey, I mean if we have to do this, I guess we just have to,” she replied.
“I guess. I mean, it’s a bit awkward, don’t you think?” he asked.
“Well if you’re so against it, then I guess I’ll just sleep on that chair over there,” Ariana replied. She didn’t know if he was against it because of the implications, or what. But she didn’t like the feeling that it was giving her. She thought that he would be all for this, especially considering the vibes and connection that they had. But apparently, he was angry about it.
He sighed, looking at Ariana with a grimace.
“I mean, I guess we can work things out. But nothing strange, okay?” he asked.
“Not like I would do anything to you,” she replied. Of course, that was a blatant lie, but she wasn’t going to point that out.
The two of them put their bags in the room, unpacking for a bit. They didn’t take out everything, but enough to make sure that they had what they needed. But Ariana wondered something, and she wanted to find out the truth behind her stepbrother’s feelings. She did wonder this, and it would bother her to no end if she didn’t find out the truth right then and there.
“Say brother, I have a question for you?” she asked.
He turned to her, wondering what she wanted. “What is it? He asked.
“I was wondering why you were so against it. I mean, we’ve been together as siblings for years, and it’s not like we haven’t slept in the same bed before. I’m just curious. I’m not trying to pressure you or anything, it just seems like a frivolous issue. I mean, I won’t touch you if you don’t touch me,” she replied.
There was a pause, followed by a sigh as he looked at her.
“True. I mean, I was just thinking about the fact that you have a boyfriend and such. I don’t want you getting the wrong idea and shit,” he explained.
Ariana felt like a record scratch went through her mind. Boyfriend? Since when? She hadn’t heard a thing about this, that’s for sure.
“Where the hell did you get an idea that I had a boyfriend?” she asked.
“I thought you did. I mean, you’re really pretty, and you seemed to be open to me, but not too much. And you didn’t want to come down here. I just thought that you did. I remember you telling me a long time ago that you were dating someone,” he replied.
She sighed, almost facepalming right in front of him.
“I haven’t head a boyfriend in a year. I dumped him because things just weren’t working out. I’m single now. I’m not going to get mad if we sleep in the same bed. We’re both adults here,” she replied.
There was a pause, followed by a blush on his face.
“Oh. That makes sense. I’m sorry, I just felt a bit awkward regarding the whole ordeal,” he said.
I smiled, coming over and placing my hand on his shoulder.
“Don’t worry about it. It’s just a miscommunication. Nothing that would mess anything up between us,” she replied.
He nodded. “Thanks Ariana. You know, sometimes I think you’re a better friend than most of the other people I hang with. I mean, when I’m with you, I feel like all of the feelings from before are back, and not in a bad way either. I just feel happy, and I feel whole. I don’t really care about anything else but just having a nice time with you this week. I mean, let’s make the most of it,” he replied.
She agreed. “Let’s do the thing,” she said.
They then felt the wall break down once again. It was awkward to
tell him that she didn’t have a boyfriend because she didn’t feel like getting into that sort of thing, but it seemed like he understood. Of course, with him, she felt like there was a chance for a potential relationship, even though it might be something down the road. Ariana would just have to wait and see, and if that’s the case, then so be it. For now, she was just happy in the state that she was in, in a relationship that she enjoyed.
Chapter Three
After they unpacked their bags, the awkward tension subsided, and Chris pointed to the arcade.
“Apparently they gave us some free tokens for the games down there. Wanna check it out?” he asked.
She smiled, nodding in agreement at the concept of that.
“I thought you wouldn’t ask,” she said.
He smiled, and the two of them went downstairs. They felt young again, and Ariana noticed that the tension they had before was gone, replaced with a sense of happiness. She wondered if maybe things were too good to be true, and when they got to the arcade, the two of them started to play games together.
