What Bae Won't Do Saga Page 22

After being in labor for twelve hours straight, I finally gave birth to my beautiful, brown-eyed, curly-haired, and caramel-colored princess. Weighing four pounds, one ounce, and eighteen inches long, my little angel was the most adorable baby I’d ever seen. Due to having thrush, she stayed in the NICU for three days, but after it cleared up, she was by my side day and night.

“Ahhhh, LaLa, my grandbaby is beautiful,” my mom said as I nursed my bundle of joy. “What are you going to name her?”

“I was thinking—” I started to say, but was interrupted when my room door was pushed open.

Shock instantly covered my face as Li’l Ray walked in smelling like a goddamn weed dispensary. Before I could even get into his ass, the door opened once again with Niecey, Toby, and a distraught Jerome walking in.

My baby must’ve sensed my mood change, because as soon as the door closed, she started to cry at the top of her lungs. With every eye now on me, I tried to calm her down any way I could. I bounced her, swayed her, patted her back, checked her diaper, and even tried to feed her again, but nothing seem to be working.

Finally, Niecey stepped forward with a tear-streaked face and said, “Let me hold her for a minute.”

Seeing the tears fall from her eyes had a few tears start to fall from mine. I didn’t know if this was her way of forgiving me for what happened, but I’d take whatever I could to have my sister’s and my relationship back to the way it was. We looked at each other and nodded our heads at the same time, silently agreeing to put our differences aside for the time being. When Niecey walked closer to me and was in a comfortable standing position, I gently placed my baby in her arms. It was just that fast that my love baby started to quiet down and soon fell asleep.

“I guess my niece likes me a little better than her own mama, huh?” Niecey joked, which caused everyone to chuckle a bit, including Jerome.

“So what are you going to name her?” Toby asked as he stood behind Niecey and smiled down at the sight before him.

I was just about to answer his question when the room door swung open again.

“Oh, I’m sorry, you guys, but there are way too many people in the room right now. That’s not healthy for the little beauty you got there in your arms,” the nurse who was assigned to my room, said. “How about granny and the proud father stay for right now, then after fifteen minutes or so, the next round can come in.”

I don’t know why, but her mentioning the proud father had me dropping my head down in embarrassment.

Jerome, who had been sulking in the corner, cleared his throat and spoke up. “Unfortunately, it would be kind of hard for us to decipher who the child belongs to, seeing as we have two possible fathers in the room.”

The nurse scrunched her eyebrows, then looked from me to Jerome, then to Li’l Ray. I don’t know if she crossed out Toby because he was white or because he was standing close to Niecey, but she never glanced his way.

“Okay . . . I see. Well, if you want, I can go get two DNA kits so we can clear this whole thing up about the baby’s paternity.”

We all nodded our heads in agreement as there was a knock followed by a familiar voice pushing through the door.

“Excuse me, ma’am, but do you mind making that three DNA tests. I need one too since LaLa here slept with me and these two other niggas around the time of conception,” Big Will said as he strolled into the room. Then to add more insults to injury, he added, “Oh, and by the way, can you please make sure it’s the rapid one. I don’t wanna be here any longer than I have to.”

The shocked look on the nurse’s face and everyone else’s was priceless. The only thing I could think of as I sank deeper into the hospital bed while pulling the sheet over my head was, Shit!
