Flynn opened the door to the Hummer before saying a word. “How bad is he?” he asked.

“It’s not good, but I can help him,” she said, sitting on the floor beside the seat. Jolie placed her hands on the knife sticking out of her mate’s chest. “Jacques, this will hurt, so bear with me my love,” she whispered, as she pulled the knife from his chest.

His body bowed as it was removed.

Blood bubbled up like a fountain, and she placed her hands over the wound to send healing energy into him. Immediately, she could feel the skin knitting beneath her hands. “My love, we’re just about home, please hold on for me.” Jolie knew that the knife had been silver, and that meant the wound would take longer to heal.

Brogan pulled into the driveway and slammed on the brakes. He ran to open the door for Jolie and Jacques. “Damn! How strong are vampyres?” he asked, as she lifted him easily.

“Very,” she replied, carrying Jacques out of the back of the H2. “We must get to my room,” she stated, using her mind to open the door for their arrival.

Brogan followed close behind, willing to do anything to help.

“Come, Flynn. I’ll need your help,” she stated, as she finally managed to get her mate to their bed. Pulling off his clothing, Jolie was able to inspect his chest.

  “Mistress, you called?” Chloe asked.

  “Yes, I need blood.”

Brogan watched the woman walk to Jolie. “What can I do?” he asked.

Jolie couldn’t answer since she was too busy feeding from the girl, Balzac stepped up to the detective and put his hand on his shoulder.

  He jumped.

“Fill the bath with water. The mistress will need to warm up after she feeds Jacques.”

Brogan rushed to do just that. When he returned, the room was dark except for candles flickering. Jolie was sitting on Jacques’s lap, and he was braced against the headboard.

“My love, you must feed,” she crooned, caressing his face. She followed it up with more words of adoration in their native language. When he didn’t respond, she raised her voice. “Jacques, your mistress commands your attention. Wake for me.”

Jacques’s eyes fluttered open. “I’m here my love. You don’t need to be shrewish.” A smile crossed his lips.

“Feed, mon amour,” she offered, pulling her hair over her shoulder for him to have better access.

Jacques opened his mouth, and his razor sharp fangs descended before he hungrily tore a gaping wound in her throat.

Brogan jumped at the sight, and yet was compelled to stand there and take in the entire thing as it unfolded. He watched as Jolie fed her mate, drawing him back from the brink of death. It seemed loving, even under the haze of violence. Clinging to him, she lovingly offered him life.

“Jacques, I need to give you energy. Please lay back and relax,” she said, after he released her throat. When he obeyed, she knelt beside him, putting her hands on his chest. Jolie sent everything she had into his body without thought to herself.

If something happened to her mate, her heart would surely die.

When Jolie was done, she leaned down and softy kissed him. “Je t’aime, Jacques,” she whispered, as the room spun wildly around her. As she stepped away from the bed, her legs crumbled beneath her and she stumbled.

Immediately, Brogan caught her. When he touched her arm, it was ice cold.

“Come on, Jolie. You need to be in the warm bath,” he stated, lifting her into his arms. As her head lolled back, he began to worry. It looked as if she had passed out.

“Please take care of her,” pleaded Jacques weakly from the bed. “I trust you with her. You have to keep her safe for me.”

“I promise nothing will happen to her. You just get better and rest. I have her,” he reassured, carrying her to the large tub. He noticed that the woman named Chloe was right behind him.

“Human or vampyre?” he asked her, watching her warily. Just because he trusted Jolie and Jacques, that didn't mean he trusted them all.

“Ummm… human?” she answered, confused as to how much to share.

  He relaxed.

“You’ll need to get in with her,” stated Chloe, stripping her mistress from her clothes. “She needs to be warmed up.”

Brogan figured that the woman knew more about this kind of thing than he did, so he didn't hesitate. Slipping out of his boots and jeans, he stood in the water, trying not to think about his nudity and the stranger.

Then again, Jacques was naked too, and no one batted an eyelash.

“Chloe, how long will she need to stay in here?” he asked the girl, as he settled Jolie against his larger body in the water.

“Just until she warms up,” Chloe answered, sitting on the edge of the tub, as she held her hand. “Mistress, please wake up. Jacques needs you.”

Jolie opened her eyes at his name. “Chloe, I’ll need more blood tonight. Jacques has drained me. Please call Mina.”

  “Yes, Mistress.”

“Wait, Chloe,” said Brogan. “Can you take mine, Jolie?”

“Yes, if you’re willing to let me feed from you again.”

“Jacques saved my life. That knife was aimed for my stomach. He jumped in front of it and spared me a great deal of pain. Feeding you or him is the least I can offer,” said Brogan honestly.

  He always paid his debts.

“Thank you, Flynn. I appreciate your precious gift.”

“I thought vampyres were immortal. Why did a knife wound him so badly?”

“It’s silver. We don’t react well to silver, iron, or gold. The only metal that doesn’t harm us is platinum.”

“I see. The water is getting cold, would you like me to warm it up?” he asked.

“No need, I can heat it for us.” The water began to steam again. “Thank you for holding me in here.”

He laughed. “Oh, it’s my pleasure,” he answered, smiling. “Literally. I don’t get to take a bubble bath with a beautiful naked woman all that often, so yeah I’m pretty sure that I should be the one saying thank you.”

She laughed weakly. Even though she was exhausted, leaning against his strong body was cathartic. Like with Jacques, Jolie felt safe.

“What can I do for you, Jolie honey?”

“I need blood. May I have your arm? I’m starving.”

“Sure,” he answered, as she took his wrist and lapped delicately across the pulse. When he saw her teeth lengthen, he waited for the pleasure but instead only felt pain.

“Damn, that hurt!” he muttered, still watching with fascination as she gently sucked. It was still arousing, but not as much as when she took blood from his neck. “I like it more when you drink from my throat. It feels better,” he said, having a difficult time staying awake.

Jolie knew she was getting dangerously close to the draining him. The detective’s speech was beginning to slur.

“I could do this every day,” he mumbled.

If she had her choice, he would get his wish.

Slowly pulling away from his wrist, Jolie was grateful to find him. She’d been right about the detective. “Thank you, Flynn. I need to feed Jacques again. He’s lost a lot of blood,” she said.

He didn't reply, but instead dropped his head back to the edge of the tub.

At the thump, he was out cold.

“Chloe, hand me my robe,” she requested.

“Shall we put him in Jacques’s old room?” asked Chloe, handing her the silk covering.

A part of her knew she should say yes, but the bigger part didn't want that. No, she knew exactly where she wanted Detective Flynn Brogan. “Let’s place him in bed with us. He might get scared if he wakes in the house alone.”

  “Yes, Mistress.”

Stepping out of the tub, she dried herself off as quickly as she could. When she pulled Brogan from the tub, she and Chloe began wiping him down.

Chloe couldn’t help herself. It began with snickering and moved into girly giggles.

Jolie gave her the look, and then
gave into it. “Shhhhhh,” she warned. It wasn’t easy to concentrate with the naked human right there. Detective Brogan was a beautiful specimen of masculinity, and Jolie appreciate that.

Both women tried to be serious as Jolie carried the man into her bedroom. When she placed him gently on her side of the mattress, she noticed her mate watching her.

“I wish I could have joined you in the bath, mon amour,” whispered Jacques.

“Me too. Here I dressed for tonight and didn’t get to enjoy your reaction,” she answered, caressing his face.

“I’m devastated that I didn’t get to peel you out of that skirt,” he said, bringing her fingers to his lips.

“You’re bold my love. Even hurt, you’re still thinking of sex. You must be feeling better.”

“Come closer, my love, and I’ll show you how often I think about sex,” he retorted, before pulling her into his arms. As his mouth found her throat, he sent erotic pictures into her mind of what he longed to do.

“Jacques, we have company, and you need to save your energy.” She heard him snicker as he finished drinking from her throat. Her entire body vibrated as she writhed against him. Slowly, he released her.

“You’re delicious, my love,” he said, licking her ear.

  “You must rest.”

  “I’m ready to call death.”

Jolie kissed him on the lips. “I love you Jacques, and thank you for saving Flynn,” she said, caressing the scar on his chest. She placed her lips on the wound and lovingly laid kisses across it.

“Mmmmmm,” he murmured, going absolutely still.

Jolie gave him a minute to get comfortable before she tucked the blanket around him and the detective.

“I can’t believe that there are two beautiful men in my bed, and all that we’re doing is sleeping. What the hell is wrong with this picture?” She heard Jacques snort before breathing out. There was no reply, since he had gone to death.

The whole thing made her giggle as she willingly followed into the darkness.

  ∞ Chapter Fourteen ∞

  Wednesday Morning

There was an incessant beeping noise pulling Detective Flynn Brogan from his deep sleep. Apparently, it wasn’t going to stop.

  Man, he was so tired.

It felt like he was fighting to climb through the haze. Everything around him was incredibly chilly. In fact, it felt like he was pressed against a cold tile floor.

  Wait, that couldn’t be right.

  These tiles were supple.

Opening his eyes, he lifted his head to see what it was trapped beneath him. When he found his hand resting on a bare breast, he nearly had a stroke.

Suddenly, he realized where he had felt that coldness before.

  From crime scenes!

  THE DEAD!

“Shit,” he muttered, trying to scramble away from Jolie’s body as quickly as possible. It caused him to tumble out of bed and onto his ass on the floor.

His heart pounded in his chest as he struggled to figure out what was going on. Glancing down at his watch, he read the face. Double shit! It was almost noon. He was over five hours late for work.

This day was getting off to a horrible start.

Getting up from the floor, he cautiously moved over to the bed. It was hard to rationalize it all, since he had just awoken with the two vampyres. In fact, he had been wrapped around the female one like they were lovers.

Then, he glanced down his body.

Scratch that. He had just woke up NAKED with the two vampyres. Oh God! What the hell went on last night?

What he didn't get was why she was so damn chilly. Tentatively, he moved across the silk sheets to run his fingers over her flesh. Shit! She was really cold.

“Jolie, are you ok?” he whispered, shaking her arm and still getting no response. He reached across her and did the same with Jacques. “Hey, are you okay?” He felt just as cold.

When they wouldn’t wake, he leaned down and rested his ear to her breast, trying to hear her heart. When there was nothing, he nearly freaked out.

“Jesus!” Brogan scrambled back out of bed, startled by the sound of his phone going off. Following the noise, he found it on the ledge next to the bathroom sink.

Picking it up, he found eighteen missed calls, and all of them were from his partner. How was he going to explain this one to him? Then, he saw his clothing, folded and neatly placed beside the sink. On top of them rested his gun and badge.

The last thing he remembered was feeding Jolie and sitting in the tub. The rest was hazy.

Running his fingers over his wrist, the bite marks from last night were nothing more than light pink pricks. She was right, they would heal by the time he was leaving for work.

Picking up his boxers, he slipped into them. The last thing that he needed was to be caught naked in a house full of vampyres.

  Yeah, not happening.

Then, he suddenly saw a lavender piece of paper. Picking it up, he sniffed it, and it smelled just like the woman he was fondling in his sleep.

  Flynn,

If you’re reading this, you’ve gotten up before us. We’ll sleep almost until dusk since Jacques needs to heal. Don’t panic if you get up and can’t wake us. We’re taken by death every night and may feel cold to the touch. If you need me find Mina, and she’ll pull me back from death’s grasp. She’ll have food for you, so please drink a lot of fluids today, you lost a great deal of blood.

  Much affection,

  Jolie.

Brogan leaned against the counter and re-read the note. Damn! He had been in bed beside to two dead bodies. That was just freaking creepy, considering what he did for a living. He shook his head as he prepared to start pulling on the rest of his clothing. When his name was called, he jumped three feet off the ground.

“Detective, I’m sorry to scare you. I’m Mina. The mistress had me bring you breakfast and coffee. It’s in the nook by the window. I also brought you a paper if you want to relax and read the news.”

“She’s very thorough,” he mumbled, trying to hide how naked he was from the woman in front of him, but she seemed oblivious.

“Yes, she is,” she replied, as she backed out of the room.

Brogan dressed and slipped his gun into the back of his pants, where he had it the night before in the vampyre club. As he headed to the table, he was grinning like a loon. Apparently, Jolie had peeked around in his head and found some of his favorite things for breakfast.

Sitting, he began feasting on giant hot croissants which were still warm. Slathering them with honey butter, he took a big bite, believing that he had died and gone to heaven. Next to them sat a French press filled with black liquid gold.

Okay, he could get used to this. At home, he would have just had a bowl of cereal.

Popping a ripe berry in his mouth, he poured himself a mug, and then picked up his phone to dial his co-worker. It was time to cover his ass.

  “Detective Gress.”

“Hey, it’s me, partner,” he replied.

“Where the hell are you? I’ve been calling you all day.”

He needed a good cover. “What do you mean?”

“Uh hello…work? It’s Wednesday, and we’re in the middle of an investigation.”

  He tried to sound confused.

“I put in for a personal day last week. I needed to go to the dentist and get a tooth filled. Did the desk sergeant lose my paper work again?” He congratulated himself on a great lie. The sergeant always lost everyone’s paperwork, and it worked in his favor this time.

“He said you didn’t put in for time off,” said Gress, feeling more relaxed knowing that he was fine.

“Man, he always loses important shit! Tell the captain that I’m fine, and that I’ll be in tomorrow. Man, I’m sorry I worried you. I thought I told you about it. I didn't answer your calls, because I left my phone at home while I was out.”

“Hey, it’s all good as long as you’re okay.”

“Did you find anything on the c
ase?”

There was a disgruntled snort. “Well, I’ve been tracking down religious fanatical groups like the good doctor recommended.”

  “Did anything turn up?”

“Not yet. I’ll keep digging. I hope you feel better. I’ll see you tomorrow, and I’ll put your paperwork in again.”

“Thanks. I’ll call you later,” he said, before hanging up the phone. He didn't know how long this was going to last, so he figured he might as well enjoy it.

Glancing up at the two dead vampyres, he shook his head. It amazed him that a few days ago, everything seemed so damn normal.

It was crazy how quickly things could change.

He was on his third cup of exceptionally delicious coffee when he heard a gasp from Jolie and Jacques’s bed. He rushed over, only to find Jolie staring up at him.

“Morning,” he said, uncomfortably. What did you say to a woman, who you’re not having sex with, when you wake up with her and her mate in bed?

That was the epitome of awkward.

“Hello, Flynn. Good morning,” she said, rolling to check on Jacques’s chest. “Were you alarmed when you woke up?”

“Yeah, it’s a little scary to wake next to a naked dead body,” he answered, and then shivered thinking about it. “Even if it’s yours. Do you die every night?”

“We only have so much energy, and when we use it all, or are injured, death can overcome us so much easier,” she said, sliding out of bed. She glanced at the door as it opened and Mina walked in.

Brogan was trying to not notice that she was sleek and very naked. He was also trying to not think about how he had been touching her very luscious breasts not long ago.

“Nudity doesn’t bother us, but I’ll cover up for you,” she offered, reading his discomfort. Mina handed her a short silk robe before sitting beside her on the bed. “I need to feed.”

“I’ll go back and finish eating,” he offered, turning his back. He expected her to take blood, but instead she opted for energy. When she was done, he was mortified that she had caught him gawking.
