Run (Lakefield Book 1) Page 13

by Jennifer Vester

I moved up on my elbows to get a better look at him. He was barefoot in a pair of grey sweat shorts and a tight black t-shirt this morning. His long, lean and muscled legs were bent across the bed.

I leaned up and kissed him lightly along his bottom lip.

He chuckled and moved his lips over mine. His tongue went between my lips and he took over the kiss by pressing close. He moved his mouth over my bottom lip to suck and nip, then went back to invading my mouth with his tongue. I felt the fire in my belly begin to spark again under his attention.

He stopped and put his forehead against mine. Both of us were panting.

“I want you again babe but you might be sore.”

“I’m not,” I said as I sat up more in bed. I slid my hand over his chest and down to his shorts. He covered my hand with his and pressed it into his growing erection.

Aiden let out a frustrated sound and gently pulled my hand away.

“You will be incredibly sore if I take you now sweetheart. I need to go on a run with the boys and I’m going to be suffering from an erection the entire time as it is, just thinking about last night.”

I stuck out my bottom lip and pouted. “They say early morning sex is good for your heart and keeps your blood pressure down. I’m just thinking of you, Mr. Bossy.”

He gave me a smile that said he knew what I was playing at and got off the bed quickly. He adjusted himself and chuckled. “The death of me Olivia. Get up and get dressed. There’s tons of food in the kitchen, and coffee.”

I swung the covers off my body and hopped out of bed completely naked. Swinging my hips a little as I walked by him, I acted like I was completely ignoring him.

He groaned and his arm snaked around my waist. The feel of his hands sent shivers down my body. He turned me around and bent down to cover my mouth with his.

His hands reached around to cup my ass and he lifted me up on his hips. My quivering legs wrapped around him as I sucked on his bottom lip.

“This isn’t what I had planned for you today but I need you right now. We’re going to make this quick.”

I smiled against his mouth and squeezed my legs around him as he carried me back to bed. My body was already hot and wet with anticipation.

He set me down on the edge of the bed and leaned me back. My legs were still partially around him and he scooted me back just a little bit. He leaned down and began sucking at my breasts, causing my nipples to peak. My back was already arching from the sensations he was producing between my legs.

I grabbed at his back and ran my fingers through his hair, pulling on the back of it.

  “Aiden,” I moaned.

He slipped two fingers in me and growled. He removed them and I felt him doing something. When his hand returned, he grabbed one of my legs at the knee. He stopped kissing my breasts and leaned back. His other hand went under my other knee.

I watched him from between my half-closed eyes. His muscles were strained and his jaw was twitching as he raked his gaze across me.

“Touch yourself for me babe. I want to watch.”

I slipped one of my hands down to my burning clit and began rubbing.

Aiden let out a hiss and spread my legs wide with his hands. He entered me in one thrust and I cried out. He began moving in and out of me in a steady hard rhythm.

  “Fuck that’s hot.”

My body was tense and shaking from the building pressure between my legs. I looked at him watching me, which only heightened the growing pleasure.

I came quickly and felt my body squeeze around his thick shaft as I orgasmed around him. My legs tightened and he began to move faster.

“Aiden!” I yelled. My womb contracted and I squeezed my legs around his hips.

His eyes slid up to my face and I could see the lust he was feeling clearly written across his face. His hands tightened around my legs and he gave two deep thrusts into me before he roared out my name.

He stood there for a few minutes and I could feel his cock throbbing inside me. He groaned and made one last small thrust. My eyes were half closed when he slipped out and bent over the bed to scatter sweet wet kisses over my face.

“That was too quick baby. You do that to me. I’m sorry, but I have to get going. The guys are waiting on me to train. Sleep a little longer if you want.”

I opened one eye at him and smiled. I probably looked like a drunken fool with my arms and legs flung all over the bed. Mumbling, I curled onto my side with the intention of going back to sleep.

I heard the sink in the bathroom turn on and off and the bedroom door open and close.

My limbs were feeling trashed when I rolled over. I sat up, then after a time, went to the bathroom and took a shower. I dressed in one of my V-neck tops and chose the summer skirt with my tennis shoes. Makeup done and hair almost dry I walked down the hall to the kitchen.

There was a lot of food again spread over the counter. I went for the fruit, eggs, and grabbed some coffee. I noticed my phone was plugged into a charger on the counter. I took everything to the back porch to eat and started going through my phone.

  One missed text from Mom.

Mom: Hope everything is going well. Called Julia yesterday and she said you had a date. Tell me later. Headed to Florida for the weekend with the gals.

I laughed. My mother was always heading somewhere with her friends. Wisconsin just couldn’t hold her interest long enough in the spring. After my father had died, she had filled her time with the things that made her happy, and naturally I was happy for her.

  I missed my dad.

He would have liked Aiden. I wasn’t sure where that thought had come from, and dismissed it as wishful thinking.

Were we together now? The stalker and me? It sounded like some bad television drama starring some washed up child star in their last attempt to be famous.

Maybe I had Stockholm Syndrome. I looked up the causes on my phone and decided that was ridiculous. I wasn’t exactly being held hostage.

I looked up brain injuries, mental disorders, stress disorders and finally read two articles about the proven chemical effects that the emotion of love had on the body. Normally I would have said it sounded terrible, but here I was, eating breakfast on the back of Aiden’s porch and impatiently waiting for him to get back.

  I called Julia.

  “What’s up?” she answered.

“Hey Jules, did you get home okay?”

“Yeah after that brute dumped me in a car, one of Aiden’s henchmen drove me home.”

  “Brute?”

“Yeah, Holden. I swear I hate him. He literally shoved the guy down that I was dancing with, threatened to beat him to death, and then carried me out of the club like a lunatic. Then when he shoved me in the car, he basically said to stop being a slut.”

  “Uhm.”

That did kind of sound like Holden. The way he had been watching her had made it pretty clear to me that he was really angry about something last night.

“Jules, you did jump out of a car, drag me into a club, and try to get the bouncers to block Aiden’s guys from coming after us. We were supposed to be on protective watch.”

“They have some other dude watching me today. Lanky guy, blonde, cowboy hat.”

“I don’t know him. Try to stay out of trouble with this one.”

“Yeah, yeah. It was fun.” She let out a tired laugh and I could hear a twinge of something else in her voice.

  “You okay?”

“Of course. Listen I was thinking about taking some vacation time. I have about a month saved up. I was going to travel with one of the bands going out to California. Do the music tour thing and go see my dad out there. Might do that pretty soon and get my groove back.”

“Sounds good. Um, I have a question.”

  “Shoot.”

“Is it possible to have some sort of transference of affection caused by stress or maybe pain medication? I think I may need medical help.”

Julia laughed hard. Then she snorted and la
ughed some more.

I tapped my fingers on the table waiting for her to finish.

“You crack me up Liv. I’ll let you figure that one out. See you soon!”

  She hung up.

I stared at the phone shooting daggers at her contact name. What kind of best friend hangs up on you in your hour of need?

  “Fucking Julia.” I mumbled.

I heard some noises approaching and looked up to see roughly ten men jogging along a path between the trees and around the barn. They were all sweaty, muscled clones of the men that Aiden had in his security detail. Holden, Dylan and Aiden led their group and most of them had their shirts off, including Holden and Aiden.

My eyes were glued to Aiden’s body as he ran. Every muscle seemed to be in perfect harmony. It made me shiver as I remembered our morning. Yum.

I knew someone who might appreciate the super soldier drool fest at Aiden’s house, even if Holden was in the picture.

I snapped off a quick picture and sent it to Julia.

The group broke off and the familiar trio that I knew stopped to catch their breath at the porch railing. Their shirts were hanging there and they pulled them on, wiping the sweat from their faces with a couple of hand towels.

I went inside, grabbed three bottles of water from the fridge and walked down the stairs toward them. They were all laughing over a joke Dylan was telling them.

Aiden’s gaze swung to me and did a quick sweep up my legs before pursing his lips. I could tell he didn’t like the clothes again today.

  Too bad!

I smiled up at Aiden and handed him the waters to pass out.

  “Hey babe. Sleep well?”

Dylan nodded at me. Holden lifted his chin.

“I actually got up and was just eating breakfast on the porch.”

Aiden’s hand reached for mine and squeezed. “Is it still out? I’m starving.”

“Yeah of course.” I tugged on his hand to pull him up the stairs.

Aiden turned to the others and invited them in. Dylan declined and ran off to the outbuilding but Holden accepted and followed us.

I refilled my coffee and wandered back out to the table.

Holden and Aiden sat down across from me with plates that were piled so high with food, it was amazing that they didn’t have heart attacks from the overload. No wonder there was always so much food in the kitchen at breakfast.

Holden was putting it away fast and seemed to be caught up in his own thoughts.

My phone beeped. Then beeped again, then several more times, and more again like it was possessed. The vibration skipped it across the table.

Aiden watched it move and raised his eyebrow at me.

I grabbed it and looked. Ten messages from Julia.

My eyebrows shot up in surprise.

  Julia: I HATE

  Julia: HATE

  Julia: HATE

  Julia: HATE

  Julia: THAT

  Julia: BARBARIC

  Julia: TYRANNICAL

  Julia: AUTOCRATIC

  Julia: NEANDERTHAL

Julia: And WHY does he have to look so fucking hot?!

Well, well, well. Looks like Julia only saw what she wanted. Interesting. I put the phone down gently and went back to my coffee.

Aiden and Holden were now both looking at me.

“Uhm, Julia’s up in her feelers and has the dictionary out.”

Holden rolled his eyes and huffed.

“So, Holden, are you married?” I blinked at him.

Aiden nudged my foot under the table and scowled at me.

“No, I’m not Liv. I was close once.”

“Oh, hmm,” I said and stuffed a grape in my mouth. I eyed Aiden who was trying to send some sort of vague message through a series of eye movements, eyebrow raises and jaw twitch codes. It was like he had suddenly developed a nervous disorder.

I frowned at him and nudged his foot back. “How old are you Holden?”

“Thirty-four,” he said while stuffing some pancake in his mouth.

“Oh, I didn’t realize you were that old. I mean not that you look old. And that’s not old.”

Aiden cleared his throat. “So how old is old?”

I gave him a sideways grin. “Holden, how old is Aiden?”

  “He’s thirty-six.”

My eyes bugged out at Aiden. “Wha—really? Well old man, that’s old.”

  Aiden growled.

“Julia is thinking about going on the road here soon. Travelling with one of the bands out to California. I’m sure she can handle it. Did I tell you her dad is a cop out there Aiden?”

Holden’s head snapped up from his plate and he addressed Aiden. “I’m going to head out unless you need me. I’ve got some things I need to follow-up on with our investigation. I’ll meet you at the bar later.”

He nodded at me and gave me a tight smile that didn’t quite reach his eyes. “See you later Liv. Stay out of trouble.”

After Holden had left, Aiden and I sat in silence for a few minutes then he cleared his throat. “Why the questions?”

I winked at him. “Jules thinks Holden is hot and she hates his face off, which really means that she likes him a lot, but she’s also mad. Just saying.”

Aiden grinned at her. “What am I going to do with you Olivia?”

“Well, do you have to work today?”

“I have the next few days cleared.”

I wondered briefly if he had gotten them cleared or whether they had cleared up after the trip to New York. He did say that he had Brock to lean on with most of his businesses.

“Honey, don’t think about it so hard. I’m free for a little while. What do you want to do?”

  “Are we going somewhere tonight?”

“Yeah, we’re going to grab some food at Muse, a couple of drinks and I needed to talk to Cade for a minute. I’d like to take you to New York for dinner but I really need to chat with him. We’ll go out on my boat afterward. They’re supposed to have fireworks for some folk festival out there.”

“New York? You own a boat? What festival?”

Aiden laughed and reached a hand across the table to tug me out of my seat. I walked around and he hauled me into his lap. He smelled musky and sweaty. It sent a small tingle down my spine. He kissed my temple and ran his hands up my arms.

“I own a boat that is docked on one of the lakes. Have a cabin out around there too. And of course, I would like to take you to New York. Have you ever been?”

  I shook my head.

“Well, I’ll take you sometime. Then maybe to Europe. Do you like sports?”

I shifted in his lap. This was happening. He was making long-term plans. The question was, did I like this, or was this the part where I was supposed to run screaming down the street? Comfort zone penetration alert.

“Olivia, don’t run. This is happening.”

Was he a mind reader too? Damnit.

“I have a present for you. Then I need to ask you something, that I was going to ask you this morning, but you distracted me.”

He stood up and turned me to sit in his seat. He took the plates in the house, set them on the bar and walked toward the living room.

I started breathing again. Okay, other than being an incredibly sexy man who had tendencies toward controlling behavior, was far too bossy, and slightly older, what reasons did I have not to date him?

Crap. I blanked. The “con” list was kind of moot at this point.

Aiden came back in and laughed as he set a large box on the table. “You look like you’re deep in thought. Don’t overthink things.”

I looked up at him and blinked. “Uhm, I was debating whether greenhouse gases were a figment of the media or whether they actually exist.”

He laughed again and shook his head. “Sure you were babe.”

Scooping me up again he sat down and placed me into his lap. “Open it.”

I grabbed the box and lifted the lid. Gently folding back the paper, I lifted a dark blue dress out of
the depths. It was long with sequins around the scooped neck and a gauze material that covered the length of satin below. There were also a pair of black sling-back heels in the box and a dark blue sequined clutch.

  “Aiden, it’s gorgeous.”

“Hmm. I’m glad you like it. When we fly up to New York I want you to wear it. I’ll wear my tux. Sadly, tonight you’re stuck with me in a pair of jeans. And as much as I’m loving this short, thigh-high skirt you have on, it will also never leave the house. I had one of the guys bring over some other clothes for you from your house. Jeans, shirts. I saw a pencil skirt in there.”

  “When did they get here?”

“This morning while you were sleeping. We get up early around here. It’s nearly noon and we’ve run twenty miles, gone through some training.”

“Julia must have been ready to kill someone this morning if you went over early.”

“She packed it this morning actually. I requested that she send clothes that wouldn’t have you locked in a closet for the rest of your beautiful life.”

“So, is she back on the good list?”

“Not even remotely, but she’s getting there.”

Aiden kissed the side of my neck and trailed kisses up to my earlobe. “So, question.”

“Hmm?” I mumbled, completely distracted by his exploration.

  “Are you on birth control?”

  I stiffened. Holy mother.

  Chapter Fourteen

I sprang up from Aiden’s lap and ran through the house with my new dress slung over my arm which was billowing out behind me.

My pills. In all the weirdness of the past few days I hadn’t thought about them. Come to think of it, I didn’t even recall seeing them in my toiletry bag that Julia packed. She wouldn’t do that on purpose.

I laid the dress on the bed, walked into the bathroom, grabbed my bag and started digging through it. Aiden came in behind me and leaned up against the doorframe, watching as I dumped everything out on the counter. No pills.

I left the bathroom and opened the drawer with my clothes.

Aiden was talking to someone on the phone as I started dumping items on the floor. When I got to the bottom there was nothing.

Maybe in my satchel. I walked over to my satchel and spilled the contents out on the top of the table. No pills.
