The Long Dark Four-Way of the Soul Page 21

I didn’t respond. I got the feeling that maybe I should offer for him to stay a little while longer. Maybe have some more food or just converse a little while longer. Before I could get my mouth to say the things that my mind was thinking, however, he was gone.

Almost magically, the door closed behind him with force. It slammed shut, startling me out of my second, most loveliest of dreams.

  Not a Glitch

I was awake, but my eyes had not yet opened. I had had another dream. Emily was there. I had dreamed of Emily, and it was beautiful.

  We had a life together.

Am I falling for one of my girls? Am I breaking my rule? Are there any rules for me? This is my life; I can do whatever I want, these girls work for me. Will I ever know if she feels the same way about me? If she works for me and treats me as her master, can I ever know her feelings are true?

I know that this is all residual effects from the dream I had of her. We were happy in the dream; we were in love. A rich, deep love.

I can feel her beside me now. I reach my hand over to her hip and touch it. Her body is warm. My body is warm too, how can I feel so warm?

  The bed is warm.

  And wet.

I open my eyes; I am laying on my side. Emily is looking at me. How long has she been looking at me with those big eyes of hers? I smile, my mind still a fog. She doesn’t smile back.

  And she doesn’t blink.

  I am lying in blood.

The blood is coming from Emily’s neck; it has been slit. We are both covered in blood.

The sight is so shocking it takes me a moment to react. I freeze, I panic. Then it hits me. Emily is dead, but I don’t scream, but I bolt upright.

  April!

I have to find April; she was here with us. Was she killed too? Where is she?

I turn my head, and within less than a second I have my answer. I see April. She is standing directly beside the bed. She has a knife in her hand; it is covered in blood. She is covered in blood. She is looking directly at me. There is madness in her eyes, a look like I have never seen before.

Is she coming for me next, is she going to kill me?

“April! What the fuck!” I say, and I sit upright and back myself against the wall, still sitting on the bed.

She was staring straight down at me, and it takes her eyes a moment to move from where I was to where I am now. The movement of her head is mechanical, robotic; glitchy.

She looks me in the eyes. Blood all over her and still dripping from the knife she used to kill Emily.

  “I know who I am.”

  TO BE CONTINUED.

  The Story Continues…

I gotta tell ya. I didn’t see that ending coming. I was three-quarters of the way through writing it, actually I was about sixty-thousand words in, when I realized I didn’t have an ending! Or at least not a good “see ya next time” ending.

I knew something like this was going to happen eventually, I just didn’t think it would happen so soon, and I didn’t think it would happen to who it happened to! I liked her!

I’m purposely not saying the name in case you accidentally clicked on this page too soon!

  It’s happened to me before!

I just ended three consecutive paragraphs with an exclamation point!

Anyway, in the beginning I really just thought this was just going to be a fun little romp; a light-hearted harem novel. It’s clearly started to turn into something more as we start to delve into what reality actually means and Buster starts to lose that part of him that makes him Doug.

I know where his story is going, but how long it takes him to get there is up to you!

If you like Buster’s adventures, please, let me know. Leave a review on Amazon or Goodreads. Hit me up on Twitter @aldenodessa or shoot me an email: [email protected]

I would love to hear your thoughts and the best way to keep this party going is by commenting and leaving reviews.

I am always listening to what the fans want, so let me know what you like, what you love, and what you hate! The books are only a few steps ahead of you. The future of Canny Valley is unwritten! So tell me what you want more of and where you’d like to go in the online city!

Stay tuned and be sure to hit that +Follow button on my Amazon author page so you never miss a new release!

No promises on book four yet and its release date but I can promise one thing… Just like the man said about SPLICE—It’ll take you places!
