Thin Walls Page 11

Finally, I decided to text Spencer first. We hadn’t agreed on a time, and he might be at the gym.

Mercy: Hey! How is your evening going?

Spencer: It’s going well. What are you up to?

Mercy: Just getting ready for bed.

Spencer: I see. Was there something you wanted to talk to me about?

  Mercy: Are you teasing me?

Spencer: A little. I figured it’s only fair since you’ve been teasing me all evening. I wanted to head to bed at six so I could hear your voice.

Mercy: I guess this means you want me to call you.

My phone buzzed with an incoming call from Spencer, and my arousal increased about a million times.

  “Hi,” I answered.

“Has anyone ever told you that you have an incredible phone voice?” His words were a sexy rumble that made me shudder ever so slightly.

“That’s a terrible line,” I accused, though I could admit that I enjoyed the delivery of the line more coming from Spencer.

“Tough crowd,” he crooned. “I guess I’ll have to bring out the big guns.”

And my thoughts immediately shifted to Spencer’s big gun. This was what happened when I spent the evening thinking about sex. My brain turned to mush. “What did you have in mind?”

“We said we were going to talk about how I learned to please a woman, but I don’t want to think about that. I don’t want to think about other women.”

“What do you want to think about?” I asked as I sat on the edge of the bed.

“I want to think about how I’m going to pleasure you,” he murmured. “Would you like to hear some of the things I want to do to you?”

My body tightened with need. “Yes, I’d like that very much.”

“What are you wearing?” he asked.

Even as turned on as I was, I still giggled at his question. “That’s too cliché.”

“Then how about if we try this?” he asked. “Take off every stitch of clothing and lie down on your bed. I want your fingers to have easy access to your perfect body.”

I didn’t hesitate to comply as I stripped out of my pajamas and lay on my bed with the phone to my ear. “What now?” My voice was breathy with need.

  “Where are you?”

“In my bed,” I replied. “Where are you?”

“I’m in my bed,” he murmured. “There’s one thin wall separating us. I’ll bet I can hear when you come for me. You are going to come for me, aren’t you?”

“That depends on how good you are.”

My taunt made him chuckle softly. “Oh, Mercy. I wish you were on this side of the wall so I could show you how good I am.”

  “You’re very arrogant,” I accused.

“Confident,” he replied. “If you were here, I’d start by kissing you until your lips are swollen and you’re aching for more of my touch.”

Having already experienced Spencer’s kiss, I had no doubt he could get me to that point.

“You like it when I kiss you, don’t you?” he murmured.

“Yes,” I replied as I toyed with my nipple. “You are an excellent kisser.”

“Your mouth is addictive,” he praised. “I want to taste you now, slide my tongue between your lips. I want to feel your nipples harden against my chest. What color are they, Mercy?”

  “Pink,” I breathed out.

“Can you picture me lying on top of you and kissing you senseless?” he asked.

  “Yes,” I whispered.

“Touch one of your nipples,” he told me.

  “I already am,” I admitted.

“Now, that will never do,” he chided softly. “You need to learn to follow directions when we play this game.”

I moaned because it was hot when he used that dominant tone with his accent.

“Are you going to do what you're told?” he asked.

“I’ll try.” It was the best response I could give—the most honest, at least.

“Touch your nipple, squeeze gently and think about how good it’s going to feel when it’s my mouth wrapped around it. I can’t wait to have my mouth on you.”

“I need to touch myself,” I pleaded.

“Impatient, aren’t you?” he asked with a husky laugh.

“I don’t usually have to wait,” I admitted in a breathy voice. “I’m not a tease.”

“You are a tease,” he argued. “Every time I see you, I feel like you’re teasing me. Every time you smile at me, I want to pin you to a wall and kiss you until all you can do is beg me to take you.”

I moaned at the image he’d painted in my mind. “Please, Spencer.”

  “Please what, love?” he asked.

“I need to come soon,” I said on a moan. How was it possible that hearing him call me love had gotten me even more turned on?

“I won’t tease you this time,” he uttered. “Next time, I’m going to have you here in my bed. I’m going to savor every inch of you as I make you beg me for release. Do you know what I’m going to do when you beg me?”

“Let me come?” I hadn’t meant my breathy response to come out sounding like a question.

He chuckled. “Oh, no, love. I won’t let you off that easy. I’ll make you wait until I’m ready to let you come. You’ll be so turned on you’ll promise anything for that release. Put two fingers in your mouth.”

“Okay,” I replied before sliding my fingers into my mouth.

“Now, slip them between your legs. Imagine it’s my tongue gliding along your pussy. How does it feel?”

My response was a needy whimper.

  “Answer me, Mercedes.”

“It feels good,” I whispered. “I can’t wait until you’re touching me.”

“Neither can I,” he rasped out. “I’m gripping my dick tightly, just as tightly as you’ll be gripping it soon.”

My body clenched at the thought of having him in me. I’d felt Spencer’s erection pressed against my belly, and I knew he was impressive. Imagining how he’d feel inside of me made me moan as my fingers moved faster against my clit.

“I’m going to fuck you hard while you stroke yourself,” he rasped out. “You’re going to let me watch you pleasure yourself, aren’t you? You’re going to give me anything I want.”

“Anything you want,” I whispered as I stroked myself faster.

“I love those sexy sounds you’re making,” Spencer praised. “Put the phone down and make yourself come.”

“Put the phone down?” I asked.

“Yes,” he replied. “I want you to come so hard that I can hear you through the wall. Make as much noise as you like. Show me how much you want me. I’m going to be right by the wall, love.”

Setting the phone on the bed, I used my free hand to spread myself wider, giving me better access. Through the wall, I could hear Spencer groan.

My moans grew louder as I pictured him stroking his dick. The image was hot, and I wished there was no wall between us so I could watch him. I felt myself tightening as I heard his words of praise through the wall. “That’s it, love. Come for me. I’m right here with you.”

A scream accompanied my orgasm as I heard Spencer’s shout of release. I continued stroking myself as the pulses went on for what seemed like minutes. Finally, my hand fell to my side, and I let out a sated breath.

I heard Spencer’s soft chuckle, and somehow, I got my boneless arm to move so I could grab my phone.

“Hmmmm,” was all I managed to say.

He chuckled again. “Next time, it’s going to be my tongue making you come so hard that you can’t speak. How does that sound?”

“Amazing,” I replied with a contented sigh. “You sound more relaxed.”

“I am, and yet it’s not enough,” he admitted. “Sorry I got distracted and didn’t tell you everything I can do to make you come.”

“You can show me later,” I told him. “We should get some sleep.”

“Dream of me,” he murmured. “I promise I’ll dream of you.”

“Will you tell me about your dreams?” I asked.

  “Absolutely, love,” he replied.

As his husky voice slid along my skin like a caress, I had no doubt I’d dream of him.

  Chapter 31

  Mercy

I’d expected significant changes in my relationship with Spencer after our bedtime phone sex, but nothing changed. He picked me up at my door in the morning, and I drove us into work. After that, we were both busy. During the meeting with Spencer and the other team members, he behaved professionally. It helped ease my worries that what had happened would affect our working relationship.

It was a little after two, and I was working on my other projects when Mia stopped by my office. “Are you busy?” she asked as she peeked her head in.

“I can take a break from this,” I replied. “What’s up?”

Mia came in and closed the door behind her before taking a seat. “I came in to be nosy.”

“About what?” I asked as if I didn’t already know she wanted to ask questions about me and Spencer. “Did you want to ask me about this lipstick?”

“It is a great shade,” Mia replied as she studied my lips before shaking her head. “The color would look terrible on me. What’s up with Spencer? He keeps smiling when he thinks no one is looking, and he tried way too hard to be professional in the meeting this morning.”

“We are at work,” I reminded her. “Don’t you want Spencer to behave professionally here?”

“Absolutely,” she agreed. “I’m not here as your coworker.”

“I think you’re more like my boss,” I pointed out.

She waved off my words. “It’s not important what we call our work connection. I’m here as a nosy friend who happens to be on break. Since you’re on break, I thought we could talk about the guys we’re interested in.”

“Why don’t you go first,” I suggested.

“No guys for me,” she replied. “So, how are things going with Spencer? He looks like a very happy man.”

“Yes, you mentioned that. As you know, I told Spencer we should keep our relationship platonic for now to avoid any issues with Suri.”

“I can see why she’d be a deterrent,” Mia agreed. “I also understand why you want to keep things platonic because of work. How’s that working out for you?”

“Not as well as I’d hoped,” I admitted.

“Passion can make us behave in ways we never expected,” Mia replied.

“Spoken like someone with experience,” I remarked.

“I may not be very good at finding Mr. Right, but I’ve had some amazing flings,” Mia admitted. “Let me know if I’m sharing too much at the office. I feel like we know each other really well, but we don’t. The last thing I want is to offend you.”

I waved off her concerns. “It’s fine. It sounds like you’ve had a more exciting life than I have.”

“I’m not sure about that,” Mia hedged. “It’s been a while since I’ve had any crazy adventures. Maybe I’m due for one.”

“You said you’ll probably have some extra time off around the holidays since you’re ahead on your projects,” I reminded her. “That might be the perfect time for an adventure.”

“We’ll see,” she replied. “First, I have to deal with my mom. Back to you and Spencer. Are you officially dating now?”

“Yes,” I admitted. “We haven’t said the words out loud, but we’re dating.”

“Are you still worried about Suri?” she asked.

“Yes, but Suri already thinks I’m dating him or she wouldn’t have vandalized my condo. We’re going to continue keeping a professional distance while at work, meaning this stays between us. I doubt anyone other than you picked up on anything between us.”

“Kayla and Liam also figured it out,” Mia told me. “It was so obvious with the way you were acting.”

“But we were acting even less like a couple,” I argued.

Mia shook her head. “That’s not true. A lot of times, when a couple works together, they go overboard to keep a professional distance between them at work. You drive into work with Spencer, yet you’re acting more distant with him than anyone else in the office.”

“I’d never considered that behaving more professionally would make it obvious we’re dating,” I admitted. “I guess it doesn’t matter. We’re not doing it to keep things a secret so much as to avoid problems at work.”

“Smart thinking,” she agreed. “I’m so glad you’re giving Spencer a chance. I wouldn’t have blamed you for deciding against it with Suri still in the picture.”

“You make it sound like they’re still dating,” I remarked. “Spencer broke up with her, and he’s getting a restraining order against her.”

As if summoned by the mention of her name, Suri burst into my office.

“Mia! I’ve been looking all over for you. No one would tell me where you were.”

Mia’s smile was tight as she stood to greet Suri. “How did you get into the building?”

Suri frowned. “I work on the third floor now.”

That was great! I stood, ready to kick Suri’s vandal ass out of my office before she started speaking again.

“Mia, you have to help me,” Suri pleaded before looking at me. “You too. Spencer told the police that I vandalized your condo. Why would I do that?”

Mia rolled her eyes. “For the same reason you broke into Spencer’s condo and the same reason you’re here harassing me and Mercy at work.”

Suri blinked twice, looking genuinely baffled. “I don’t understand what one has to do with the other. Why would I harass your girlfriend, Mia? You took my advice and started dating her, right?”

That gave me pause because she sounded very convincing. It was possible she was innocent, but more likely she was merely a good liar. I hoped it was the latter. Sure, it sucked to have the ex of the guy I was dating behaving like a crazy stalker, but it was better than not knowing where the danger was coming from. If Suri was innocent, then some unknown person hated me enough to paint those awful things on my porch.

“What the hell are you doing here?” Spencer demanded as he stormed in.

  He looked seriously pissed.

“I came to talk to Mia about you,” Suri replied with a huff. With one hand on her hip, she gestured around the office with the other. “As you can see, I didn’t threaten anyone or vandalize the office.”

“And you think that’s something to brag about?” Spencer asked in a measured tone. “Never mind. I don’t want to know what you’re thinking. I’ve already called security and the police. You are not allowed in these offices.”

“I have every right to be here!” Suri shouted. “I work in this building, and you’re trying to make me look crazy.”

She was doing a damn good job of that on her own, but I kept that to myself and let Spencer deal with her. He seemed to be handling Suri fine on his own, and she was his ex, thus his responsibility.

“Suri, you vandalized my neighbor’s home because you decided she was a threat to you,” Spencer ground out. “You refuse to leave me alone.”

Suri blinked back tears before responding. “I love you, Spencer. We were good together. I know I made a mistake, but we are getting back together.”

Before Spencer could respond to Suri’s unique brand of crazy, two security guards arrived.

“We got a call about a problem,” one of the guards told us as they entered the office.

Suri still looked upset, but she visibly struggled to pull herself together before smiling at the security guards. “It was a simple misunderstanding. I’m heading back to my office now.”

“Don’t come back here again,” Spencer warned. “I’m getting a restraining order, and I will have you arrested if you keep harassing me.”

  Suri’s mouth opened in shock.

“You’ll need to leave the building, ma’am,” one security guard told her.

“If not, we’ll call the police,” the other added.

  “I w
ork in this building,” Suri insisted. “This is a misunderstanding—a lover’s spat.”

On those words, she pushed her way past Spencer.

“We’ll follow her to her office and verify her claim,” one guard told us.

Spencer nodded, and after the guards left, I finally spoke. “I’m not saying Suri isn’t crazy and capable of vandalizing my condo, but I don’t think she did it.”

  Spencer

I stared at Mercy for several beats of silence. “Are you telling me you’ve come up with another possible suspect?” I asked.

“No,” Mercy admitted. “I still can’t think of anyone else with a reason to hate me. I don’t even have all that many unhappy ex-employees. Granted, the last unhappy ex-employee held up Euphoria at gunpoint, so it’s possible another is angry with me.”

“That seems highly unlikely,” Mia insisted. “You haven’t managed either club in several months. This seems like fresh anger.”

“It has to be Suri,” I stated. “Unless you can come up with someone else you angered recently, she’s the only suspect that makes sense.”

“Do you have any jealous exes?” Mia asked her.

Mercy laughed and shook her head. “It’s been too long since I’ve been in a serious relationship. I only talk to three of them, and I’m on good terms with all three. No one was heartbroken when we broke up.”

“Maybe one of them thought that being on good terms meant you’d get back together,” Mia suggested.

“All three are happily married,” Mercy insisted. “I get along great with their wives, so I don’t think any of them have a grudge against me.”

  “That leaves Suri,” I concluded.

“But she seems convinced I’m with Mia,” Mercy argued.

“Which proves how crazy she is,” Mia added. “She decided we were both in love with her and that it would be a great idea if we dated each other.”

“She even implied it was a good idea because neither of us is all that attractive,” Mercy added with a laugh. “That conversation was strange, but no stranger than when she called me Mia’s girlfriend today.”
