[5] Therefore, was his stature exalted above all the trees of the field, and his branches spread far by the help of much water.
[6] ἐν ταῖς παραφυάσιν αὐτοῦ ἐνόσσευσαν πάντα τὰ πετεινὰ τοῦ οὐρανοῦ, καὶ ὑποκάτω τῶν κλάδων αὐτοῦ ἐγεννῶσαν πάντα τὰ θηρία τοῦ πεδίου, ἐν τῇ σκιᾷ αὐτοῦ κατῴκησεν πᾶν πλῆθος ἐθνῶν.
[6] All the birds of the sky made their nests in his boughs, and under his branches all the wild beasts of the field bred; the whole multitude of nations dwelt under his shadow.
[7] καὶ ἐγένετο καλὸς ἐν τῷ ὕψει αὐτοῦ διὰ τὸ πλῆθος τῶν κλάδων αὐτοῦ, ὅτι ἐγενήθησαν αἱ ῥίζαι αὐτοῦ εἰς ὕδωρ πολύ.
[7] And he was fair in his height by reason of the multitude of his branches: for his roots were amidst much water.
[8] κυπάρισσοι τοιαῦται οὐκ ἐγενήθησαν ἐν τῷ παραδείσῳ τοῦ θεοῦ, καὶ πίτυες οὐχ ὅμοιαι ταῖς παραφυάσιν αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἐλάται οὐκ ἐγένοντο ὅμοιαι τοῖς κλάδοις αὐτοῦ· πᾶν ξύλον ἐν τῷ παραδείσῳ τοῦ θεοῦ οὐχ ὡμοιώθη αὐτῷ ἐν τῷ κάλλει αὐτοῦ
[8] And such cypresses as this were in the paradise of God; and there were no pines like his shoots, and there were no firs like his branches: no tree in the paradise of God was like him in his beauty,
[9] διὰ τὸ πλῆθος τῶν κλάδων αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἐζήλωσεν αὐτὸν τὰ ξύλα τοῦ παραδείσου τῆς τρυφῆς τοῦ θεοῦ. –
[9] because of the multitude of his branches: and the trees of God’s paradise of delight envied him.
[10] διὰ τοῦτο τάδε λέγει κύριος Ἀνθ ὧν ἐγένου μέγας τῷ μεγέθει καὶ ἔδωκας τὴν ἀρχήν σου εἰς μέσον νεφελῶν, καὶ εἶδον ἐν τῷ ὑψωθῆναι αὐτόν,
[10] Therefore thus saith the Lord; Because thou art grown great, and hast set thy top in the midst of the clouds, and I saw when he was exalted;
[11] καὶ παρέδωκα αὐτὸν εἰς χεῖρας ἄρχοντος ἐθνῶν, καὶ ἐποίησεν τὴν ἀπώλειαν αὐτοῦ.
[11] therefore I delivered him into the hands of the prince of the nations, and he wrought his destruction.
[12] καὶ ἐξωλέθρευσαν αὐτὸν ἀλλότριοι λοιμοὶ ἀπὸ ἐθνῶν καὶ κατέβαλον αὐτὸν ἐπὶ τῶν ὀρέων, ἐν πάσαις ταῖς φάραγξιν ἔπεσαν οἱ κλάδοι αὐτοῦ, καὶ συνετρίβη τὰ στελέχη αὐτοῦ ἐν παντὶ πεδίῳ τῆς γῆς, καὶ κατέβησαν ἀπὸ τῆς σκέπης αὐτῶν πάντες οἱ λαοὶ τῶν ἐθνῶν καὶ ἠδάφισαν αὐτόν.
[12] And ravaging strangers from the nations have destroyed him, and have cast him down upon the mountains: his branches fell in all the valleys, and his boughs were broken in every field of the land; and all the people of the nations are gone down from their shelter, and have laid him low.
[13] ἐπὶ τὴν πτῶσιν αὐτοῦ ἀνεπαύσαντο πάντα τὰ πετεινὰ τοῦ οὐρανοῦ, καὶ ἐπὶ τὰ στελέχη αὐτοῦ ἐγένοντο πάντα τὰ θηρία τοῦ ἀγροῦ,
[13] All the birds of the sky have settled on his fallen trunk, and all the wild beasts of the field came upon his boughs:
[14] ὅπως μὴ ὑψωθῶσιν ἐν τῷ μεγέθει αὐτῶν πάντα τὰ ξύλα τὰ ἐν τῷ ὕδατι· καὶ οὐκ ἔδωκαν τὴν ἀρχὴν αὐτῶν εἰς μέσον νεφελῶν καὶ οὐκ ἔστησαν ἐν τῷ ὕψει αὐτῶν πρὸς αὐτὰ πάντες οἱ πίνοντες ὕδωρ, πάντες ἐδόθησαν εἰς θάνατον εἰς γῆς βάθος ἐν μέσῳ υἱῶν ἀνθρώπων πρὸς καταβαίνοντας εἰς βόθρον. –
[14] in order that none of the trees by the water should exalt themselves by reason of their size: whereas they set their top in the midst of the clouds, yet they continued not in their high state in their place, all that drank water, all were consigned to death, to the depth of the earth, in the midst of the children of men, with them that go down to the pit.
[15] τάδε λέγει κύριος κύριος Ἐν ᾗ ἡμέρᾳ κατέβη εἰς ᾅδου, ἐπένθησεν αὐτὸν ἡ ἄβυσσος, καὶ ἐπέστησα τοὺς ποταμοὺς αὐτῆς καὶ ἐκώλυσα πλῆθος ὕδατος, καὶ ἐσκότασεν ἐπ’ αὐτὸν ὁ Λίβανος, πάντα τὰ ξύλα τοῦ πεδίου ἐπ’ αὐτῷ ἐξελύθησαν.
[15] Thus saith the Lord God; In the day wherein he went down to Hades, the deep mourned for him: and I stayed her floods, and restrained her abundance of water: and Libanus saddened for him, all the trees of the field fainted for him.
[16] ἀπὸ τῆς φωνῆς τῆς πτώσεως αὐτοῦ ἐσείσθησαν τὰ ἔθνη, ὅτε κατεβίβαζον αὐτὸν εἰς ᾅδου μετὰ τῶν καταβαινόντων εἰς λάκκον, καὶ παρεκάλουν αὐτὸν ἐν γῇ πάντα τὰ ξύλα τῆς τρυφῆς καὶ τὰ ἐκλεκτὰ τοῦ Λιβάνου, πάντα τὰ πίνοντα ὕδωρ.
[16] At the sound of his fall the nations quaked, when I brought him down to Hades with them that go down to the pit: and all the trees of Delight comforted him in the heart, and the choice of plants of Libanus, all that drink water.
[17] καὶ γὰρ αὐτοὶ κατέβησαν μετ’ αὐτοῦ εἰς ᾅδου ἐν τοῖς τραυματίαις ἀπὸ μαχαίρας, καὶ τὸ σπέρμα αὐτοῦ, οἱ κατοικοῦντες ὑπὸ τὴν σκέπην αὐτοῦ, ἐν μέσῳ τῆς ζωῆς αὐτῶν ἀπώλοντο.
[17] For they went down to hell with him among the slain with the sword; and his seed, even they that dwelt under his shadow, perished in the midst of their life.
[18] τίνι ὡμοιώθης; κατάβηθι καὶ καταβιβάσθητι μετὰ τῶν ξύλων τῆς τρυφῆς εἰς γῆς βάθος· ἐν μέσῳ ἀπεριτμήτων κοιμηθήσῃ μετὰ τραυματιῶν μαχαίρας. οὕτως Φαραω καὶ τὸ πλῆθος τῆς ἰσχύος αὐτοῦ, λέγει κύριος κύριος.
[18] To whom art thou compared? descend, and be thou debased with the trees of paradise to the depth of the earth: thou shalt lie in the midst of the uncircumcised with them that are slain by the sword. Thus shall Pharao be, and the multitude of his host, saith the Lord God.
CHAPTER 32
[1] Καὶ ἐγένετο ἐν τῷ ἑνδεκάτῳ ἔτει ἐν τῷ δωδεκάτῳ μηνὶ μιᾷ τοῦ μηνὸς ἐγένετο λόγος κυρίου πρός με λέγων
[1] And it came to pass in the twelfth year, in the tenth month, on the first day of the month, that the word of the Lord came to me, saying,
[2] Υἱὲ ἀνθρώπου, λαβὲ θρῆνον ἐπὶ Φαραω βασιλέα Αἰγύπτου καὶ ἐρεῖς αὐτῷ Λέοντι ἐθνῶν ὡμοιώθης καὶ σὺ ὡς δράκων ὁ ἐν τῇ θαλάσσῃ καὶ ἐκεράτιζες τοῖς ποταμοῖς σου καὶ ἐτάρασσες ὕδωρ τοῖς ποσίν σου καὶ κατεπάτεις τοὺς ποταμούς σου.
[2] Son of man, take up a lamentation for Pharao king of Egypt, and say to him,
Thou art become like a lion of the nations, and as a serpent that is in the sea: and thou didst make assaults with thy rivers, and didst disturb the water with thy feet, and didst trample th
y rivers.
[3] τάδε λέγει κύριος Καὶ περιβαλῶ ἐπὶ σὲ δίκτυα λαῶν πολλῶν καὶ ἀνάξω σε ἐν τῷ ἀγκίστρῳ μου
[3] Thus saith the Lord; I will also cast over thee the nets of many nations, and will bring thee up with my hook:
[4] καὶ ἐκτενῶ σε ἐπὶ τὴν γῆν, πεδία πλησθήσεταί σου, καὶ ἐπικαθιῶ ἐπὶ σὲ πάντα τὰ πετεινὰ τοῦ οὐρανοῦ καὶ ἐμπλήσω ἐκ σοῦ πάντα τὰ θηρία πάσης τῆς γῆς·
[4] and I will stretch thee upon the earth: the fields shall be covered with thee, and I will cause all the birds of the sky to settle upon thee, and I will fill with thee all the wild beasts of the earth.
[5] καὶ δώσω τὰς σάρκας σου ἐπὶ τὰ ὄρη καὶ ἐμπλήσω ἀπὸ τοῦ αἵματός σου,
[5] And I will cast thy flesh upon the mountains, and will saturate them with thy blood.
[6] καὶ ποτισθήσεται ἡ γῆ ἀπὸ τῶν προχωρημάτων σου ἀπὸ τοῦ πλήθους σου ἐπὶ τῶν ὀρέων, φάραγγας ἐμπλήσω ἀπὸ σοῦ.
[6] And the land shall be drenched with thy dung, because of thy multitude upon the mountains: I will fill the valleys with thee.
[7] καὶ κατακαλύψω ἐν τῷ σβεσθῆναί σε οὐρανὸν καὶ συσκοτάσω τὰ ἄστρα αὐτοῦ, ἥλιον ἐν νεφέλῃ καλύψω, καὶ σελήνη οὐ μὴ φάνῃ τὸ φῶς αὐτῆς·
[7] And I will veil the heavens when thou art extinguished, and will darken the stars thereof; I will cover the sun with a cloud, and the moon shall not give her light.
[8] πάντα τὰ φαίνοντα φῶς ἐν τῷ οὐρανῷ συσκοτάσουσιν ἐπὶ σέ, καὶ δώσω σκότος ἐπὶ τὴν γῆν σου, λέγει κύριος κύριος.
[8] All the bodies that give light in the sky, shall be darkened over thee, and I will bring darkness upon the earth, saith the Lord God.
[9] καὶ παροργιῶ καρδίαν λαῶν πολλῶν, ἡνίκα ἂν ἄγω αἰχμαλωσίαν σου εἰς τὰ ἔθνη εἰς γῆν, ἣν οὐκ ἔγνως.
[9] And I will provoke to anger the heart of many people, when I shall lead thee captive among the nations, to a land which thou hast not know.
[10] καὶ στυγνάσουσιν ἐπὶ σὲ ἔθνη πολλά, καὶ οἱ βασιλεῖς αὐτῶν ἐκστάσει ἐκστήσονται ἐν τῷ πέτασθαι τὴν ῥομφαίαν μου ἐπὶ πρόσωπα αὐτῶν, προσδεχόμενοι τὴν πτῶσιν αὐτῶν ἀφ’ ἡμέρας πτώσεώς σου.
[10] And many nations shall mourn over thee, and their kings shall be utterly amazed, when my sword flies in their faces, as they wait for their own fall from the day of thy fall.
[11] ὅτι τάδε λέγει κύριος Ῥομφαία βασιλέως Βαβυλῶνος ἥξει σοι
[11] For thus saith the Lord God; The sword of the king of Babylon shall come upon thee,
[12] ἐν μαχαίραις γιγάντων, καὶ καταβαλῶ τὴν ἰσχύν σου· λοιμοὶ ἀπὸ ἐθνῶν πάντες, καὶ ἀπολοῦσι τὴν ὕβριν Αἰγύπτου, καὶ συντριβήσεται πᾶσα ἡ ἰσχὺς αὐτῆς.
[12] with the swords of mighty men; and I will cast down thy strength: they are all destroying ones from the nations, and they shall destroy the pride of Egypt, and all her strength shall be crushed.
[13] καὶ ἀπολῶ πάντα τὰ κτήνη αὐτῆς ἀφ’ ὕδατος πολλοῦ, καὶ οὐ μὴ ταράξῃ αὐτὸ ἔτι ποὺς ἀνθρώπου, καὶ ἴχνος κτηνῶν οὐ μὴ καταπατήσῃ αὐτό.
[13] And I will destroy all her cattle from beside the great water; and the foot of man shall not trouble it any more, and the step of cattle shall no more trample it.
[14] οὕτως τότε ἡσυχάσει τὰ ὕδατα αὐτῶν, καὶ οἱ ποταμοὶ αὐτῶν ὡς ἔλαιον πορεύσονται, λέγει κύριος.
[14] Thus shall their waters then be at rest, and their rivers shall flow like oil, saith the Lord,
[15] ὅταν δῶ Αἴγυπτον εἰς ἀπώλειαν καὶ ἐρημωθῇ ἡ γῆ σὺν τῇ πληρώσει αὐτῆς, ὅταν διασπείρω πάντας τοὺς κατοικοῦντας ἐν αὐτῇ, καὶ γνώσονται ὅτι ἐγώ εἰμι κύριος.
[15] when I shall give up Egypt to destruction, and the land shall be made desolate with the fullness thereof; when I shall scatter all that dwell in it, and they shall know that I am the Lord.
[16] θρῆνός ἐστιν καὶ θρηνήσεις αὐτόν, καὶ αἱ θυγατέρες τῶν ἐθνῶν θρηνήσουσιν αὐτόν· ἐπ’ Αἴγυπτον καὶ ἐπὶ πᾶσαν τὴν ἰσχὺν αὐτῆς θρηνήσουσιν αὐτήν, λέγει κύριος κύριος.
[16] There is a lamentation, and thou shalt utter it; and the daughters of the nations shall utter it, even for Egypt, and they shall mourn for it over all the strength thereof, saith the Lord God.
[17] Καὶ ἐγενήθη ἐν τῷ δωδεκάτῳ ἔτει τοῦ πρώτου μηνὸς πεντεκαιδεκάτῃ τοῦ μηνὸς ἐγένετο λόγος κυρίου πρός με λέγων
[17] And it came to pass in the twelfth year, in the first month, on the fifteenth day of the month, the word of the Lord came to me, saying,
[18] Υἱὲ ἀνθρώπου, θρήνησον ἐπὶ τὴν ἰσχὺν Αἰγύπτου, καὶ καταβιβάσουσιν αὐτῆς τὰς θυγατέρας τὰ ἔθνη νεκρὰς εἰς τὸ βάθος τῆς γῆς πρὸς τοὺς καταβαίνοντας εἰς βόθρον·
[18] Son of man, lament over the strength of Egypt, for the nations shall bring down her daughters dead to the depth of the earth, to them that go down to the pit.
[20] ἐν μέσῳ τραυματιῶν μαχαίρας πεσοῦνται μετ’ αὐτοῦ, καὶ κοιμηθήσεται πᾶσα ἡ ἰσχὺς αὐτοῦ.
[19] 20 They shall fall with him in the midst of them that are slain with the sword, and all his strength shall perish: the giants also shall say to thee,
[21] καὶ ἐροῦσίν σοι οἱ γίγαντες Ἐν βάθει βόθρου γίνου, τίνος κρείττων εἶ; κατάβηθι καὶ κοιμήθητι μετὰ ἀπεριτμήτων ἐν μέσῳ τραυματιῶν μαχαίρας.
[21] Be thou in the depth of the pit: to whom art thou superior? yea, go down, and lie with the uncircumcised, in the midst of them that are slain with the sword.
[22] ἐκεῖ Ασσουρ καὶ πᾶσα ἡ συναγωγὴ αὐτοῦ πάντες τραυματίαι ἐκεῖ ἐδόθησαν, καὶ ἡ ταφὴ αὐτῶν ἐν βάθει βόθρου, καὶ ἐγενήθη ἡ συναγωγὴ αὐτοῦ περικύκλῳ τοῦ μνήματος αὐτοῦ, πάντες οἱ τραυματίαι οἱ πεπτωκότες μαχαίρᾳ,
[22] There are Assur and all his company: all his slain have been laid there:
[23] οἱ δόντες τὸν φόβον αὐτῶν ἐπὶ γῆς ζωῆς.
[23] and their burial is in the depth of the pit, and his company are set around about his tomb: all the slain that fell by the sword, who had caused the fear of them to be upon the land of the living.
[24] ἐκεῖ Αιλαμ καὶ πᾶσα ἡ δύναμις αὐτοῦ περικύκλῳ τοῦ μνήματος αὐτοῦ, πάντες οἱ τραυματίαι οἱ πεπτωκότες μαχαίρᾳ καὶ οἱ καταβαίνοντες ἀπερίτμητοι εἰς γῆς βάθος, οἱ δεδωκότες
αὐτῶν φόβον ἐπὶ γῆς ζωῆς καὶ ἐλάβοσαν τὴν βάσανον αὐτῶν μετὰ τῶν καταβαινόντων εἰς βόθρον
[24] There is Ælam and all his host round about his tom: all the slain that fell by the sword, and the uncircumcised that go down to the deep of the earth, who caused their fear to be upon the land of the living: and they have received their punishment with them that go down to the pit,
[25] ἐν μέσῳ τραυματιῶν.
[25] in the midst of the slain.
[26] ἐκεῖ ἐδόθησαν Μοσοχ καὶ Θοβελ καὶ πᾶσα ἡ ἰσχὺς αὐτῶν περικύκλῳ τοῦ μνήματος αὐτοῦ, πάντες τραυματίαι αὐτοῦ, πάντες ἀπερίτμητοι τραυματίαι ἀπὸ μαχαίρας, οἱ δεδωκότες τὸν φόβον αὐτῶν ἐπὶ γῆς ζωῆς·
[26] There were laid Mosoch, and Thobel, and all his strength round about his tomb: all his slain men, all the uncircumcised, slain with the sword, who caused their fear to be in the land of the living.
[27] καὶ ἐκοιμήθησαν μετὰ τῶν γιγάντων τῶν πεπτωκότων ἀπὸ αἰῶνος, οἳ κατέβησαν εἰς ᾅδου ἐν ὅπλοις πολεμικοῖς καὶ ἔθηκαν τὰς μαχαίρας αὐτῶν ὑπὸ τὰς κεφαλὰς αὐτῶν· καὶ ἐγενήθησαν αἱ ἀνομίαι αὐτῶν ἐπὶ τῶν ὀστῶν αὐτῶν, ὅτι ἐξεφόβησαν γίγαντας ἐν γῇ ζωῆς.
[27] And they are laid with the giants that fell of old, who went down to Hades with their weapons of war: and they laid their swords under their heads, but their iniquities were upon their bones, because they terrified all men during their life.
[28] καὶ σὺ ἐν μέσῳ ἀπεριτμήτων κοιμηθήσῃ μετὰ τετραυματισμένων μαχαίρᾳ.
[28] And thou shalt lie in the midst of the uncircumcised, with them that have been slain by the sword.
