  KAYLA

I t turns out I am exactly what the hotel needed for a manager. I started on the ground. I wasn’t afraid to scrub toilets. I had my share of demanding guests, but one thing above all that the hotel wanted, was my passion and my vision for better accommodations that takes nothing more than the right effort and a few genuine smiles.

Best of all, I have Jackson. I have an unbelievable man. He has his Boys in Blue, and they are charming and funny, but Jackson is a man that makes me feel like I can take on the whole wide world and conquer it all.

My first order of business at the hotel once I win the coveted position as manager is my guilty pleasure of firing the skinny-bitch concierge. She had her sights on the manager position. The shock on her makeup-caked face when she learned I won the top spot was better than any guest compliment I received all year. It turns out being helpful to people pays off. I know treating guests with a little respect, paying attention to their needs, can make even a modest dream come true. I fired her on the first day.

I wasn’t worried about a replacement, I had the perfect candidate. Maria accepted the offer, leaving the head housekeeper job to put on a sharp suit and help people without having to get clean towels or replace toilet paper. Maria will still do all that, so will I, if that’s what it takes. But it helps a place feel like a second home when everyone is working together instead of undermining your best efforts. I have Maria. I have Jackson, and I have the rest of our lives to sort it all out.
