that you'll be able to prove that my mom is the heir and then she'll have wasted her time and money and energy."
"Didier, I don't agree with you that if she cannot prove she is the heir then she has wasted her time and energy, after all what else would she be doing with her time. Yet I believe that something has made a way for us to find this out and that it is her fate to have the property."
"You really believe that?"
"Yes I do."
"Well then I will have to believe it too, I think you did have some kind of experience and that this has made it come this far," Didier smiled as he said that and drank the rest of his wine. "Want another glass?"
"Sure, let's finish the bottle and then go to bed," Reason agreed. He got up and went and brought the bottle in from the kitchen, he poured Didier another glass. Didier kept pushing the glass up to indicate to Reason not to stop. "Okay, you want a fuller glass, it will help you relax."
"Reason I have never had an argument with my mother before and it shook me up."
"I understand. Maybe you want to check in on her before you go to bed. That might make you feel better?"
"Well after this glass of wine I hope I do feel better."
"You will." Reason poured himself another sensible glass and sat the bottle on the table. He sat on the sofa next to Didier and put his hand on his knee.
"Maybe Catherine needed to talk to you about it to help her with her own fears," Reason finally said.
"Her own fears?" Didier sounded perplexed.
"Yes, she admitted to me earlier that she was fearful of what might happen and if we were putting ourselves in danger."
"In danger! What is she talking about? What kind of danger?"
"I assured her that there was no danger and that I am here and you are here and nothing would happen."
"Yes, but what did she mean by danger?"
"I think she was afraid that someone might not want us to find the Will and stop the auction. That they might try do to us harm."
"That seems a little over dramatic, don't you think?"
"You never know how people might react."
"No, no you don't. Can you be sure that you won't be in any danger?"
"If we use a lawyer to stop the auction, I don't see any harm in doing that. The lawyer did say that we would need to prove in writing that Catherine is the heir."
"See that's what I am talking about. How are you going to do that? I don't see it coming to fruition."
"You of little faith. If this is all a mistake then I would be surprised if Catherine does not inherit that place."
"Oh yeah, I have to trust you."
"If you would trust me a little, I would appreciate it."
"I am going to make a conscience effort. I do love you and want to believe in you."
"That's sweet, Didier."
"It's true!"
"I believe you and I feel the same way about each other. I hope this does work out."
"Well I am going to go say good night to mother. Here, can you put this away?" He handed the empty glass of wine to Reason and got up.
"I will see you soon," Reason replied as Didier walked out of the room.
Reason got up and took the empty bottle and glasses to the kitchen. He rinsed out the glasses, sat them in the drying stand upside down and put the bottle in the recycling bin. He headed off to the bedroom and took his clothes off. A chill was in the air. He went to the fireplace and sat a fire log on the grate and then two large logs on top of it. He took the long matches and lit the fire log. Soon there would be a roaring fire. It was not late, but he felt tired after all the talking. He wanted to hold Didier, just to make him feel better. He thought by holding him he could ease his mind. He laid there and began to fall asleep.
15 minutes later
Reason woke and Didier had his arm around him. He gently turned to face Didier who was silent. "I must have dosed off. Is the fire still going?"
"Yes you did and yes it is. I let you sleep while I watched the fire, it's a big roaring one now. Hold me," came the request. Reason reached one arm to hold Didier under the pillow and the other over his chest, he pulled him towards him and got up close to his ear. "Relax," he whispered, "You'll feel better in the morning. I am here with now."
Didier sighed and held onto Reason. He held Didier for what seemed like a long time. Their bodies were getting warm. He could feel Didier breathing in and out. He felt warmer and he didn't want to let go. He began to release Didier slightly. Didier held him tighter.
Their skin was beginning to feel wet, the fire had warmed up the room dramatically. Didier would not let go. Reason could feel his heart begin to race slightly. Didier began to kiss him. Kissing him softly at first and then deeper. Deeper than Reason ever felt before. Didier was pushing his tongue deep inside his mouth. He could almost feel it to the back of his throat.
They began to sweat now profusely from the heat of the fire. Reason felt the tongue in the back of his throat and didn't want it ever to leave. They rolled over, Reason on top of Didier, who wrapped his legs around Reason's thick torso. The sweat was making their bodies slippery. They went on for an hour making love finally collapsing in one another's arms, exhausted and hot from the heat. Reason lay on top of Didier until he fell asleep.
He woke up and the fire had gone out. Didier was asleep, he quietly crawled out of bed and grabbed his robe. He put on his slippers and went to the kitchen. He opened the refrigerator and grabbed the bottle of water and poured himself a glass. He drank it down completely. It quenched his thirst. He remembered the last time he had done that he was in his own kitchen. Now he was in his lover's kitchen doing it.
He went back to the bedroom and crawled into bed. Colbert must have gone in and slept with Catherine. That was good company for her. He fell asleep.
Chapitre 40
The next morning.
Reason woke and Didier was not in bed. He got up and went to the bathroom room to wash his face and brush his teeth. He put his robe and slippers on and went into the kitchen. Catherine was sitting at the table.
"Where's Didier?" Reason asked as he poured himself some coffee.
"He went out to the garage," Catherine smiled as she replied.
Reason stumbled out to the garage with his coffee. Didier was in his car looking for something. "Hey," he said as he saw Reason standing by the car, "I was just about to come say goodbye to you."
"Okay, I was hoping that you had not left without saying goodbye." He turned to go back into the house, Didier followed him. They went to the bedroom and Didier closed the door. "How are you this morning?" Reason had put down his coffee cup.
"Me, I am great, especially after last night. Let's do it again tonight?''
"I'm game."
"Well I am off to work, kiss me."
"What about Catherine?"
"She's fine. I talked to her last night and this morning."
"Well good then go have a wonderful day," Reason kissed Didier.
"I will. You too," Didier turned and left. Reason sat down on the bed. He picked up his coffee and drank it down. It warmed him up immediately. Now he could face Catherine. He went back to the kitchen and sat at the table.
"Good morning."
"Good morning and how did you sleep? Did you miss Colbert? She came in and slept with me all night."
"I noticed. So Didier talked to you?''
"Yes and I believe you must have talked to him first, because he was very apologetic and he said that he was going to be rooting for us, which I thought was kind of funny."
"He said that? 'Rooting for us!' and laughed.
"Yes he did, so I thought you must have talked with him about it. I always thought he was a bit stubborn and would never admit defeat."
"Well I don't think he was admitting defeat, but he was open to supporting what we were doing. I asked him to and he agreed."
"Just like that?''
"Yes and he was very understanding."
"Well I am
glad to see you have such a positive effect on him."
"I just suggested that this was all happening for a reason and that he needed to support us."
"Okay then. I am glad for that and now what will we do?"
"I want some breakfast? Did Didier eat any?"
"Yes he was having toast this morning when I got up. I made him some scrambled eggs with cantaloupe and grapefruit."
"Did he eat the grapefruit?"
"I sprinkled sugar on it."
"That's the trick. I'll remember next time."
"Do you want some eggs? I haven't eaten yet."
"Sure, with some sautéed onions and garlic?"
"Well if you want that, then you're going to have to cut them up for me," Catherine smiled.
"No problem. It will be delicious." Reason got up and went over to the cutting board to start chopping.
"So what about that photo? Have you ever taking it out of the frame?"
Catherine was silent for a second, "Yes I did and there was nothing much on the back."
"Can I take a look at it?"
"Sure, let me go get it." Catherine went to her room and came back with the photograph. She handed it to Reason who had sat back down at the table. "The onions and garlic are all chopped."
"How could you do that so quickly."
"Practice. Now let me see, this has old nails holding the back in place. Reason used his finger to pull them away. The back slipped off and there was the back of the photo. He looked at it closely and saw some numbers on it. "What do you suppose these numbers are?"
"Numbers," Catherine repeated. "I never saw any numbers on the back before."
"They are very faint. I am going to write them down, let me get a pad. Reason got up and went to the corner drawer of the kitchen counter. There inside the draw was a yellow notepad
