  Trier Cathedral. The capitals, salvaged by Bishop Nicetius from the ruins in a Roman temple in Trier (Am

  Herrenbrünnchen), dating from the first half of the 2nd century A.D., were remounted on pillars set up at the

  corners of the Square Chancel when it was restored in the 6th century.
