Chapter 1: Elijah
My Daddies stood on either side and I held onto their hands as Oliver rang the doorbell. I was so excited to see Michael, I could barely keep my excitement in as I wiggled.
"Why aren't they opening the door, Daddy?" I looked at Oliver. "Do you think they're in trouble? Should we break through the door and save them?"
Oliver laughed and tapped my nose. "Patience, little one. It's only been a minute."
The door finally opened and John smiled at us. "Sorry about the delay. You know how naughty my boy is. He wanted to have the playdate wearing nothing but diapers. I had to chase him around the house naked."
"We understand." Lance laughed as we stepped in. "Boys will be boys, but us Daddies love them all the same."
"You must be Oliver." John offered his hand. "It's nice to finally meet you. I've heard a lot about you."
"Good things I hope." Oliver shook his hand as I got down on all fours. "I believe you've already met our boy, Elijah."
"Yes, such a well behaved and mild-mannered boy." John patted my head and waved at Michael who had crawled in. Then he leaned in to whisper, "Unlike some other boy, who shall remain unnamed."
"Who? Me?" Michael hugged John's leg tightly and looked up at him with big eyes, causing John to jump up in surprise.
"How did you crawl here so fast?" John leaned and patted his head. "I was just telling them that you're such a good boy…sometimes."
"Oh, Michael!" I threw my arms around his neck and kissed him on the cheek. "How I've missed you. We should have these playdates more often."
"I've missed you too." He crawled to a box of toys in the middle of the living room and I crawled after him. “Too bad you live so far away.”
"I believe that's our cue to leave the boys alone, gentlemen." John started towards the pool in the backyard and my Daddies followed. "I have arranged something for us grown-ups by the pool."
I watched them leave and then pulled out toys from my backpack. I always carried my bear army figurines whenever I came over for a playdate. His wolf army figurines had no chance against them.
"So, it's official, huh?" Michael beamed as we arranged our respective armies before each other. "You have two Daddies, and they're both so hot. You lucky, lucky boy. There are boys out there dying to have one, and you've managed to get two. What's your secret?"
"Indeed, I am very lucky." I sighed in contentment and shrugged. "Honestly, I don't know what they see in me. There are so many boys out there but they chose me. Ever since Daddy Lance moved in with us at our home in the woods, everything's been so good. Life just couldn't get any better than this. Well, except…."
"Except what?" He stopped arranging his figurines and looked at me with a frown, crossing his legs and straightening his back.
"Well, it's nothing." I crossed my legs too and sat in silence while he continued staring at me. "I’m lucky enough they love me despite my baggage. I shouldn't get greedy. I should just be content with what I have."
"You're too hard on yourself." He patted my back. "You're a good boy and you deserve whatever you desire. Now tell me, what's the matter? What is it that you wish?"
"I want the three of us to be a family, you know." I began arranging the rest of his wolf figurines. "Right now, it feels like I'm in two separate relationships. I want us all to be in love, but my Daddies ignore each other. Or at least that's what it looks like most of the time. Maybe they're uncomfortable around each other. I don't know. I want them to fall in love with each other, but I'm willing to settle for them being friends."
"Ah, I see." Michael crossed his arms and chuckled, wiggling his eyebrows. "You want to watch your Daddies make out, don’t you?"
“What?” I blushed and shook my head frantically “I do not!”
“There’s nothing wrong if you do. There’s no shame in knowing what you want. In fact, I wouldn’t mind watching my Daddy kiss another Daddy. That would be so hot, just the thought has me hot and bothered!”
“Fine!” I sighed, knowing I couldn’t hide anything from him. “I’ll admit. The thought might’ve crossed my mind a few times, and I might’ve gotten hard imagining them together. But I do want them to fall in love for other reasons. I grew up without a loving family and now I desperately want to start my own.”
“You can’t force people to fall in love, though.” He shrugged. “Maybe they’ll get along with time, but can a Daddy even fall in love with another Daddy? Only time will tell, but until then, enjoy all the attention you get from them.”
“Oh?” I frowned. “What do you mean? My Daddies will continue to love me even if they fall for each other.”
“Yes, but you won’t be the center of their attention anymore. It’s not necessarily a bad thing.”
“It isn’t.” I smiled, imagining my Daddies holding each other’s hands instead of mine. “I want them to look at each other with love, the way they look at me now. Until then, I’ll have to be content with my fantasies.”
“What else have you been fantasizing about, you naughty boy?” He crawled closer and looked around to see if we were still alone, and then whispered. “Have you seen them naked together?”
“Oh, please.” I scoffed and held my head high with pride. “I’ve done a lot more than just see. I took them both in my mouth together. They couldn’t fit, but I sure tried.”
“Wait, so you’ve slept with them both at the same time?” His mouth was open as he looked at me with wide eyes.
“I let them take turns, but Daddy Oliver just likes to watch sometimes.”
“No way!” His jaw dropped. “Damn, it’s always the ones who look innocent.”
“Too bad they avoid looking at each other when we’re all naked, though.” I sighed again. “It’s like they’re terrified of the idea of seeing another Daddy naked, or maybe they simply dislike each other. You’re right. Maybe two Daddies can’t fall in love.”
“Don’t give up hope yet.” He rubbed my back. “It’s hard to understand Daddies sometimes. Give them time and maybe they’ll get along.”
“So,” I said after a long silence and wiggled my eyebrows. “You want to watch your Daddy kiss another Daddy too? Would you also like to have two Daddies?”
&n
bsp; He laughed and waved a hand airily. “I’m having a hard time taking care of the one I have. Every day I wake Daddy up early, cook for him, take him on walks, make sure he takes his pills on time. You know how it is. Daddies say they’re the boss and that they like to take care of their boys. In truth, it’s the other way around.”
“Maybe.” I chuckled and shook my head, pushing my polar bear figurine forward. “Want to see who wins this time? My army has been training day and night for the past few weeks and they’re going to kick your army’s butt.”
He scoffed and pushed his dire wolf figurine forward. “We’ll see who kicks whose butt.”
When he lost, he stuck his lower lip out in a pout. "Not fair! You always win. Let's do something I'm better at."
He stood up and ran into his nursery, returning with a coloring book and placing it before me. "Daddy bought me this new coloring book. It's got all the animals in it. I've got one with dinosaurs, but I'm saving that for later. We can color it together when you return from the psychiatric hospital."
It was so sweet of him to wait for me. Is this what friendship was? He opened the book and we started coloring one side each of a big butterfly.
"I'm going to miss you, you know." I smiled and put the crayon down halfway through. "I don't want to go, but Daddies say the doctors will make me all better. I wish I didn't have to live there for months. They don't allow visitors and I won't be able to see them for months. I just don’t think I can live without seeing them that long. How will I know which jammies to wear and if I've been a good boy? I'll have to make all the decisions on my own."
"It makes you think though, doesn't it?" He grinned. "We take our Daddies for granted but it's times like these that remind us how important they are in our lives. You know what, I'm going to be extra good today to show my appreciation for Daddy. I'll behave and obey like a good boy. Or at least I'm going to try. No, wait. I take it all back. Now that I think about it, it sounds like a lot of work. I give up. Well, at least I tried."
"Yeah, I can tell." I laughed and rolled my eyes. "You tried real hard."
"You're brave for going, you know. I'm lucky Daddy works from home. I can't stay away from him for an hour, let alone months. I wouldn’t know what to do with myself. Why wouldn't they allow visitors, though? It just doesn't make sense."
"Something about providing a safe and secure environment from the outside world, so the patients can heal better. At least I can video call them every day, but it sucks that I can't go into my Little headspace. I mean I can, but people might be mean to me."
"Why do you have to go there anyway? Daddy just said you weren't feeling better."
"It's a long story." I sighed and shook my head. "The short version is that my father hit me badly all my life and I think it damaged me permanently. I can't eat, sleep, or feel happiness, and everything gives me severe anxiety. Daddies think talking about it might help me realize that I didn't deserve the beatings. They have different therapies too. They think it'll take me months to fully recover."
"Yes, yes." He nodded. "Talking helps. I see the doctors on TV just ask their patients how they feel about something, but it might be different in real life. Can I call you too sometimes? I'd love to know if you're getting better."
"Sure. You'd want to do that?"
"Of course." He smiled. "You're my friend and I want you to feel better."
I was his friend. Leading a life without love and friendship, I craved to have a friend and be loved. But finally, hearing Michael call me his friend bought a tear to my eye.
"What's wrong?" He frowned. "Is it something I said?"
"No, I'm just happy." I threw my arms around him and hugged him tight. "You're my friend too, friend."
We continued coloring the butterfly and by the end, it had every single color on it. It was so nice of him to share his coloring book with me. I knew how possessive he was of his toys and books. It was an act of kindness that showed how close we had grown together over the past few weeks.
Our Daddies didn't want us to watch TV on our playdate, but that didn't stop Michael. He switched it on and we watched cartoons on a low volume. He showed me his favorite cartoon, the one with talking animals who had superpowers. For the first time, I was getting to know what having a friend meant. The world was a lonely place and friends made it less lonely. Friendship meant being there for each other through the happiest and saddest moments, even the boring ones. You didn't have to pretend to be happy when you weren't, nor did you have to hide your true self from fear of judgment.
Later that afternoon when I woke up from the nap with Michael, I was beginning to panic. I was hours away from checking into the hospital. I took deep breaths as Daddies had taught me.
"Are you alright?" Michael sat up in bed and held onto my hand. "It's going to be alright. You have the rest of your life to spend with your Daddies. They'll be home waiting for you to get better."
"You're right." I put on a forced smile and breathed through my mouth. "I just don't do very well on my own. It makes me feel lonely."
We got out of bed and crawled into the living room. Our Daddies were smiling and talking on the couch but their smiles faded when they saw me.
"It's time, little one." Daddy Lance held onto my hand. "It's time to leave."
"He doesn't feel too good, Mr. Hoult." Michael patted my back. "Maybe it's too much for him to handle. Maybe he should postpone it."
Daddies looked at us and then each other.
"It's alright, Michael." I took another deep breath. "That's the reason I'm going, to not have these anxiety and panic attacks anymore. I'll have to be brave for my Daddies."
"We'll call you every day, honey." Oliver stood up and scooped me up in his arms, giving me a quick peck on the lips, Lance then doing the same. "We'll miss you just as much as you’ll miss us. In fact, much more."
"That’s impossible." I smiled. "I'll miss you to infinity and beyond."
"Now let's go home and get you ready." Oliver ruffled my hair and kissed my head. "We don't want to be late, do we?"
On our drive home, we all sat in silence, Lance and I holding hands in the backseat while Oliver drove us. Having two Daddies meant twice the love, but it also meant twice the pain of having to say goodbye, even if it was just for a few months.
When we reached our house in the woods, Lance went to the nursery to turn the shower on in the bathroom and lay out my clothes. Oliver and I sat in the living room holding hands. They knew just what I needed, to have my anxiety showered away.
"Now that it's just us." I turned around to make sure we were alone and then leaned in before lowering my voice. "I think something's up with Daddy Lance. I've warned him about the dangers of wandering alone in the woods. He doesn’t even know his way around the forest as we do and what if gets lost? There are hungry wild animals out there who aren't as nice as our pet bears. But he doesn't listen to me. He's been going on long runs for hours on end for the past few days. Do you think something's bothering him, Daddy?"
"Well," he said and rubbed my back. "I've asked him to take the kit I've prepared to scare wild animals away should he encounter them, but he hasn't been taking it with him. He's having a hard time with something, but I don't know what. I assumed it was because he's sad that you're going away, but that doesn't seem to be the case."
"I have never asked you for anything, Daddy. But I ask you now to help him. I couldn't bear the thought of getting a call from you because something happened to him out there in the woods. Please, Daddy. Help him like you've helped me."
"You're so kindhearted, little one." He tapped my nose. "But you just concentrate on your therapy and listen to the doctors. Your Daddy's got everything under control here. Whatever's been bothering him, I'll find it out and have a solution ready long before you return. It was already my intention to help him when you leave, but I'm glad you've noticed a change in him too."
I should’ve known Daddy would take care of everything. He always does.
"I
knew you'd take care of it." I threw my arms around him and hugged him tight. "You're the best Daddy in the whole world."
"Liar." Lance chuckled, walking into the living room. "You've told me I was the best."
"Daddy Lance!" I jumped in my seat and turned around. "How long have you been standing there?"
"Long enough to know you're two-timing your Daddies, brat." He walked over to us and sat next to me.
"Oh, yeah." I smiled and wrapped my arms around their broad shoulders. "You're both the best Daddies in the whole world."
"That's more like it." Lance took my hand and we all stood up. "Now let's wash your fears away. It's going to be a long time before the three of us shower together again."
We headed into the nursery and then into the bathroom. It saddened me knowing that they would shower separately in my absence. We had gotten into the habit of showering together ever since Lance moved in.
I raised my arms and Lance took the shirt off me, while Oliver pulled my pants and briefs down in one swift motion. I stood there stark naked, conscious about my lean body while my muscled Daddies stood completely clothed. That soon changed when they got out of their clothes and stepped in under the shower. They both stuck their hands out and I took a moment to step back and appreciate the beautiful view before me. How did I ever get so lucky to have two big, handsome naked men offering me their hands to join them in the shower?
"What is it, honey?" Oliver asked, their hands still extended and waiting for me.
"Nothing." I shook my head and smiled. "I'm just going to miss this, all of it."
I took each of their hands and stepped in, letting the warm water hit my body. As usual, Lance soaped my back while Oliver did my chest. I had gotten into the habit of popping a boner every time we showered, but I was too anxious this time. I was hours away from seeing them for the last time.
"Be a good boy and listen to the doctors," Oliver said, now soaping my crotch. "Don't forget to eat on time."
"And don't stay up too late," Lance said, soaping my legs. "Little boys go to bed early. Be nice and talk to everyone on the first day. You'll make new friends before you know it."
