be near the meter eighty, despite his forty-two, he looked younger.
Even though Colin avoided looking at the body of his co- lleague bleeding, eyes pointed to the ground intermittently.
“What the hell is going on here?” he asked, shaking with fear.
Daylet gestured with his chin indicating that the demon was blond woman with a gun in his hand and a silver suitcase close to her.
“How many are within the facility?” Rachel asked again to compare answers.
“Nobody else. On this floor, nobody else. Upstairs are three if
they are still alive.”
Rachel’s gaze crossed over his shoulder to send her a conso- lation prize to Daylet. The girl had told the truth twice. First six people who worked there, and second at cigarettes.
“What is your name?” “I’m Dr. Colin.”
“All right, Colin. What do you prefer? To die, to see how he shot her or live?”
“I suppose you live is the best option.”
“We started good,” she said Colin still pointing the gun. “Do you see the bottles in the suitcase? I want seven billion capsules that content.”
“Fiuuuuu,” hissed the doctor. “Seven thousand million. That’s the world’s population less North America. What’s this all about?”
“I see you’re very clever, but I am the one who asks the questions.”
“I understand,” the voice said cleaning with a soft snore. “Here we have the equipment and the raw material for that, but it will take a few days.”
“How many days are you talking about?”
“I would not know tell you exactly, maybe nine or ten days.” “When did you come to leave the military provisions?”
“In exactly eight days,” he said rectifying the date in your mind.
“Listen, Colin, I need seven billion capsules before arriving military, or all die.”
“We’ll do best.”
“Will?” Daylet interjected irritably. “Have you seen that our colleague is dead? You know what you want to do this woman? He wants to poison people! He wants to do the plague world! We cannot allow that!”
Rachel found no more reason to keep listening to the nerd re- bellion and pointed the gun, ready to pull the trigger there. Colin then brokered.
“Wait! Will capsules in eight days. I promise. Just do not kill
yourself to anyone else.”
“What part of you wants to end the world does not unders- tand?” Daylet questioned in disbelief.
“Hey, calm, I think we should calm us all to reach an agree- ment. She has a gun. We are alive, and I will convince others to collaborate on the order of seven billion capsules. Here no one wants to die.”
“Die? We’re dead if we follow the current to this woman. I have a load of virus in my body that can trigger this madman from his watch!”
“That’s true?” The doctor asked with a frown.
“Oh yes, very true!” Rachel said tapping the tip of the gun to his watch technology.
“It’s okay. I trust that will not detonate anything, right?” “That depends,” casting doubt Rachel said.
“You see, until we can negotiate our salvation.”
“Did you go crazy!? There is no salvation! Inhabiting the out- side are zombies. America is lost, and if we process what she wants, will miss the whole world. Can you imagine the chaos, Colin? Do you envision? There is no way to return to the old life. What will we do in such a hostile place, surrounded by ro- tten people wanting to eat us? Answer back! We will not have electricity anymore. How we will go for supplies with a swarm of undead in the streets that we can smell from afar?”
“Damn, I don’t know! But I do not lose hope.”
“In this situation, she wiped her eyes Daylet running his fin- gers under his glasses and walked to Rachel, grabbed the hand holding the gun and put it stuck to his forehead. Rachel was stret- ched arm, by assessing whether the girl in the black bangs would aid in the coming days.”
“Brave and principled your little friend!”
Rachel was lowering the gun slowly down the face of the girl, who was moaning with her eyes closed. He lifted her chin with the tip of the gun and saw clearly how a sip of saliva slid down her throat.
“Think about it, Daylet. The more people stay alive, the more will the zombies hunting them. The plan of this woman sounds eccentric, but not bad. Infect mankind means that converts will not have to feed on and will eventually die malnourished. I’m sure there will be people who will be saved from total epidemic, per- haps we might be one of those few. And when you least imagine, wake up one day without the presence of pale bodies dragging their feet through the streets and let you hear those terrifying growls. Start from scratch, it is true, but nobody will come to eat. It is preferable that all pass quickly to wait years without a cure, and the torment of seeing the world, panic and suffering collapses.”
Dr. Rachel Hayes left a free hand to applaud Colin. It sounded convincing. Finally, a person who aligned his mind with hers. At least I perceived in her voice. Moreover, Daylet thought otherwise
and thought that those words had no more meaning than the win- ning time. Although winning time translated to start manufactu- ring the capsule Z.
“Well, here it became clear the matter. Now we see what others think.”
Without further ado, they went upstairs to the facilities. Colin was responsible for talking to other colleagues explaining the si- tuation. It was not easy to digest that apocalyptic plan, but they had no choice but to accept if they wanted to stay alive. Colin picked the same cell phones and magnetic keys all to give to Ra- chel. After that, they began the process of industrialization.
Chapter 12. Man is a wolf to man.
In the course of measure, classify, categorize, and design the capsules, missed valuable time. Once the material ready, we pro- ceeded with the lighting of machines. Rachel knew the procedure and was not aware that there was the slightest delay. the produc- tion area was launched, and the automated system was regulated by computers. Being a product skipped several standards, manual occupation was not required. Pharmaceutical chemists worked under threat, ensuring that each capsule carry sufficient charge to kill a person, that is to say, kill the virus to make the other party. They did not agree with that absurd idea, but nobody wanted to leave with a bullet in his head.
Late at night, Rachel ordered down to dinner. Colin went first, closely followed him Daylet. The other three feared not both Ra- chel looked at each other, and that they did not witness the pre- vious crime. At the end of the row, Rachel kept the gun ready for the unexpected. They reached a huge dining room. One of the pharmacists took control of a television, but Rachel was de- nied the right. Man, disappointed, he took the batteries and threw them away. Everyone chose what would dine, though in truth, the troops had no appetite. It was, literally, to extinguish the human race. ALL! Everything that was built by the man be at the mercy of nature without continuous progress. Knowledge comes to an end. The story would end as predicted in documentaries, scientific and religious material; but one thing is said and another is to be met. There were even more likely to an end because of a weather or climate phenomenon that an epidemic. And not just any epi- demic, but one that kills and causes those dead are resurrected to continue killing.
Each of them thought about how would the environment after each inhabitant of the Earth consumed the capsule. No one dared to express an opinion. They just think of all the scientific, technological, art, and many other things progress. Advance su- ffered the worst of tragedies. And despite the chaos, many Ame- ricans insisted on fighting malodorous Z. Other men found no better way to evade border posts.
Because of the unstoppable wave of people who left the country by land, Canada placed outpatient clinics after military cordons. And in the southern border, the story went around when Mexican armed themselves to the teeth avoiding crossing their territory. It sounded ironic. The same wall that was built to pre- vent migration to the north,
served as a barrier to prevent the crossing of American contaminated by the virus. At that time, the people of Mexico are grouped against the walls and burned Ame- rican flags in protest against acts of repudiation by that virus that turned people into undead. The flag was replaced the blue box of the stars by a skull green. It was literally a symbol of poison with misshapen red lists, as if he splattered with blood. Mexico discrimination towards northern neighbors sparked a rebellion that ended with the collapse of the wall by dint of heavy artillery. Many unnecessary deaths happened in those days, and not only by war but also by those who crossed sick.
“You think how you’re going to arrange to sleep? Do not tell me you’re awake more than one-week,” Colin ‘I said, sitting beside her.
“I’ve got something in mind,” serene she replied. “Do not tell me you’re going to kill us all.”
“It’s not a bad idea. But I’ll take care to wrap them separa- tely to avoid conspiracy. Laboratory machines are programmed to manufacture the seven billion capsules Z. If things go well, they deserve a chance in life.”
“I do not want to interfere with your plans. It notes that this will come weaving long ago, but I love to see the grand finale to you.”
“Answer me something, which do you think will try to kill me?
And which one do you think will take the initiative to escape?
“The truth, I do not think that will happen. You have a gun, and we are so isolated that it is impossible to walk to nowhere. And in the unlikely event that someone tried to flee, he would be signing his death sentence because it is no secret that the rulers are out zombies.”
“Then I chose the right place. No escape, no one will attack me, and they have the raw materials and machines for my final project. Do you realize that the wind is blowing in my favor?
“I must admit. You arrived at the right time, with a pump that any biological more potent suitcase, and you forced us to produce an array of contaminated drugs. If you had taken a few days, you would not be here to tell the tale.”
“What do you mean with that?”
“The road that you reach this laboratory will be undermined by a military convoy. They did not say when, but one of them mentioned it in the last visit. They want to ensure that nothing and nobody disturb our work. They are confident that we are close to ending zombies.”
“That means that whenever the air supply.”
“Yes. We receive supplies, we give them a report, and they go
up within fifteen days.”
“As the nerd,” said Rachel throwing a glance at the girl in the black bangs.
A Daylet inhabited indescribable discomfort. His best friend had time talking with that killer. He hid a little and came to spy on the conversation. Rachel quickly realized Colin and asked aloud:
“Have you ever seen a zombie?”
“Never close,” he replied without grasping the true intent of the question.
Girl lens away from the heart in his mouth and remembering the sting that struck him in the neck. He took out a cigarette and, occasionally, looked at the woman. When Rachel noticed that the girl did not stop black bangs besiege with his big eyes, he threw threatening gestures by tapping on the screen of your watch.
“Tell me something. Is it true that you injected one nanorobot to Daylet with a small load of virus?”
“I come from Iceberg. I can do anything.”
One of the scientists approached the table and asked: “Respectfully. You were the doctor who found the cure for
AIDS. That means the virus saved the world more difficult to eradicate because of its complexity. What makes me think, why do you want exterminating now?”
“The world is exterminated before there was the first zombie. Humans have the greatest ecological debt to Earth. We are the species left over here. The species that has left traces of nuclear tests, plastic, garbage, concrete. Actors animal extinction and poison the atmosphere causing the emission of greenhouse gases. We kill ourselves, something that zombies do not. Do you sound familiar phrase «Homo hominy lupus»?”
“Man is a wolf to man,” he replied immediately. Rachel stood and spoke to those present:
“In these machines it is making the ultimate cure to save the planet from the worst plague that has ever existed: the human species. Man is a being endowed with horror that generates vio- lence against himself and against everything that is within reach. It’s a classic murderer, capable of provoking wars. He is a mer- cenary who steals, kills, subjected to the same species to slavery, illegal trafficking, forced prostitution; commits one of the most heinous acts of the universe: child prostitution, sexual abuse in children; domestic violence that leads to murder, murder, femi-
cide and infanticide. The human species does not live in peace be- cause of the constant stress of psychological warfare that causes anger and fear. He is a recipient of negative attitudes degenera- tive. Before making known the cure for HIV, I did an experiment with people infected with the virus. I proposed to my patients to give them the cure, absolutely free, in exchange for not prac- ticing sex ever again in your life. They did not accept. I relied on the Hippocratic thought that says. Before heal someone, ask if you are willing to give up the things that sickened. I realized that there would cure AIDS, but not the poison of our soul. It is inevitable, we are a reservoir of constant errors that result in hate crimes that promote violence; where the power of an elite orders the slaughter of human rights generating hunger, poverty and disease with the effects of the war. Rigor system prevailing in the country encourages its inhabitants to be filled with evil and destruction causing rejection of man to man, and increasing the rate of exiles. Man, practices terrorism because of an ideal of extermination towards a social group on the basis of ethnicity, religion or sexual preference. Parties impose terror to strengthen their dominance, they commit attacks, murder and kidnapping in order to subdue society. Justice is the whore corruption. Where is the act of judgment of those politicians who used methods of torture, kidnapping, murder or execution? How disappearances controlled by military forces of a government warrant for internal control of a country? If any of you think that this is uncertain, has the opportunity to kill me, right now, and avoid the end of the magnificent being that has turned out to be the man.”
After finishing his words, he placed the gun on the table where they had dined and stayed still. Daylet rushed to throw his ciga- rette and walked a few steps, but stopped when Colin grabbed the gun. The tip of the silencer rose slowly to align with Rachel’s face.
“What are you waiting for? Squeeze that trigger! Kill to that
unfortunate! Do it now, asshole!”
Colin’s gaze was fixed on the pupil Rachel. He stood there for a few seconds as delving into his soul. Finally, her lips slightly twisted into a smile, and turned the gun on Daylet. The girl almost
died of fright.
“What do you do?” She said surprised falling to his knees. “It’s not me you have to kill. Who is you shoot that bitch!”
“That «bitch» is endangered, and I’ll see to it that their species last.”
That said, again he handed the gun to Rachel and her hair set-
tled as Samantha did the first time.
In the center of abandonment and sadness, punctuated by a cry that boded no end, was the girl in big glasses and black bangs. His idea was opposed to that of Rachel and incredibly, to his best friend.
“It cannot be possible; this is not happening, this is not hap- pening, this is not happening.” She said disquietude, as if a boxer practices his best shots on the walls of his chest.
Every night after dinner, Rachel and her new ally locked others in different cubicles. The doors will not reopen until nine o’clock the next day. Colin became Rachel’s right arm. Not only for con- venience, but because, since he saw her, was fascinated by her beauty. He did not care to carry a gun in his hand. At bottom, it was a guy who did not heal the wounds of suffering in the period of adolescence. He carried a se
ries of traumas that appeared oc- casionally in his mind, almost always taking a shower. Therefore, unconditionally he supported the idea of life wrest people from around the globe. He loved the dark intention from the beginning, but also fell in love with her sunny hair, its aroma, its refined ac- cent. He fell in love with those lips,
At the zenith of the eighth day ended the industrialization pro- cess. Automated ceased arms laboratories to process when com- puters marked the figure of seven billion capsules Z. Fortunately, so far, no one else died.
Daylet stopped talking to Colin. Basically, what I wanted, but it
hurt her to know that his best friend was sleeping with Dr. Hayes. It did not assimilate the radical change since the arrival of the future biggest killer in history. Meanwhile, Rachel began to trust him, but he still doubts arose in his head.
“How warn that are here?” Rachel asked worried about the time.
“You speak of the military?” “Of course.”
“Everything will go well, do not worry.”
“How is it that everything will go well? I not even know if all
the boxes fit in the helicopter.”
“Quiet. It is a military transport helicopter. Once they arrived with an armored vehicle. They said they would use it to sweep a perimeter ... I do not remember the exact number, but it was a radius of several miles. They said the west met so many zom- bies that the vehicle got stuck in the crowd of bodies. Later, they cleaned the area with reinforcements, and the place was fenced.”
