The Bullet That Killed The World Page 20

“Well count on me. Somehow you have to pay for the damage, but their actions are priceless.”

During the course, Frank used the radio trying to contact the military, possibly settled in North Carolina. But nobody re- sponded. So, he did with Atlanta, and the result was negative.

“Give up,” he said calmly President. “I assure you that no one wants to chase the devil.”

“Sir, is not the devil. She is a woman, an ordinary human being.

The least I ask is that someone can shoot a locator device.” “That will not be necessary, son. Rachel goes to Iceberg.” “That thought at first. Now I want to be very sure.”

“There was where it all started, and the murderer always re-

  turns to the crime scene.”

“I do not mind me going through what else may be thinking that lunatic,” said Frank muttered with a shrug.

“What else can you do after extinguishing mankind?”

  “That, sir, let’s find out.”

On the other hand, Colin was responsible for bringing the truck to Iceberg. For every mile, died thousands of people on the planet. The plan worked capsules. In the branches of trees han- ging newspapers are constantly publishing where the virus was airborne, and therefore every human being in this world ran the risk of becoming infected. That’s why people nose was covered, but opened his mouth, and a black Z was dissolved in their blood.

Rachel burned in his own ego. His masterful lie poisoned the world. Looking back, a lot of butterflies fluttering in his stomach, but think about the state of her daughter, her throat a bitter pill down like a ball of acid that exploded and killed inside his butterflies.

In midair, the President of the United States began to sweat cold. His head took a couple of turns, as if to break away from the neck. A feeling of disgust drove him forward retching. He coughed a couple of times and motioned for Frank to stay away. But the swarthy face firm opened a bottle of water and drink it helped him holding her back.

“I think it has begun,” said the President choked voice.

“Sir, must do their part. That negative thought away and see that we together until the end of this.”

“Thanks boy. You really are a good guy. Now do me a favor and cover your mouth and nose with a handkerchief, I do not want this shit infect you.”

Frank covered half of his face down like a bandit old west.

And when he thought he had returned calm; the president fell to his knees with one hand clutching her abdomen.

  “You okay?

  “God is unbearable!”

“Above! I help him to sit again.”

“No friend. ‘I remember the order,” said grabbing her arm. “With respect, sir, I am sure that these symptoms may be ex-

tended. I need to slap together aware that bitch.”

“I would love, boy, but I have a feeling this will get worse in a few minutes.”

“Let’s go! Do not do this to me! I know you can do it!”

“Do me a favor. When you have in front of you that bitch, I congratulate her from me and then stir it a couple of bullets in the chest.”

That said, the president fainted with very pale lips.

Frank clenched his teeth with rage and ordered to change course. The last wish of the President of the United States of America was lost in the depths of the sea. The pilot confirmed and directed the dragonfly to the shores of the Atlantic Ocean.

Away from the coast and at high altitude, Frank picked her up, took leave quietly and threw the body into the void. In the fall, the strong wind made the president woke up immediately. In the air, turned his head and there in the middle of a clear sky, no clouds brushstrokes, he saw a dragonfly with the insignia of the armed forces of his country. Seconds later, his body hit the water without closing his eyes, saw the bubble column dissolved amounting to the surface. The thrust force saltwater tried to raise it. But consuming the most terrible pains suffered before dying process for future transformation. That was when he gathered his last strength and pushed toward the abyss, making sure not to wake again.

Arriving in Georgia, Colin warned that his two favorite women had fallen asleep. He smiled and kept heading down the highway. In a somewhat steep curve, he awoke and watched Rachel Daylet overcome by a weariness of old.

“Do you trust her?” she whispered.

“Absolutely,” he replied-fully caressing her with his eyes. “And you?”

“Not. But the story of her daughter made me see things differently.”

  “Do you feel sorry?”

“Pity? ¿Went crazy or what? That woman literally extermi- nated the human race!”

“Then, are you going to help or not when we get to Iceberg?”

“What she asks is a challenge. But with the necessary material, it is likely to succeed in repairing your daughter.”

The conversation did not extend enough. Rachel woke up. He looked calm. He squeezed eyes and covered her mouth to yawn. He looked at them both and asked:

  “Where we are?”

“Close house,” said Colin giving a smile.

The word house hit his mind to Rachel like déjà vu, because the distance he saw a column of gray smoke.

“Let’s change. I will lead what is missing.”

“It is not necessary. We’re close, and you need to rest.” “You’ll spend over here, and behind the wheel, do you unders-

tand? I need to make one more stop before reaching Iceberg,” she insisted.

Shame was printed in red ink on the cheeks of Colin. The girl with huge lenses made sure not to open my mouth. Apparently,

the devil returned more hostile after the break.

The roar of the engine stopped beside a wrapped ashes neigh- borhood. Rachel was staring view a pile of rubble.

  “What is there?” he asked.

“Shhhhh,” she scolded her with his index finger in the center

  of the lips.

“Let’s get out of here,” feeling chills.

“You see that stoked by the ash wall? The left and bottom, do

you see?” She gestured with the same finger.

“The see,” he squinting as an Eskimo.

“There my daughter died... There he came back to life. And

there the virus was created Z.”

A Daylet he changed the expression on his face. The place was monumental. Somehow, that wall was complicit in the epidemic. So, he made sure to open up an important space in your mind to keep that image life. Although, in fact, the scenario got worse. That citadel in rubble was a nest of ravenous undead. Everywhere they began to go out with their faces torn apart and arms outstret- ched as hooks. Just missing the sunset was red enough to recreate a gruesome episode in his hell divine.

Rachel climbed into the truck with a look of bewilderment on his face. palpated pockets holding the urge to laugh when I looked in the eyes of Colin and Daylet. He put his hand under the seat, and wandering soulless began banging on the doors.

“Isn’t you tell me you lost the keys?” asked the girl, with eyes bigger than ever.

“He had me down when we were outside.”

“What was missing! Only thing missing! Dammit!” She cried the girl desperately.

Rachel let out a laugh impossible to beat. He stopped a little

and turned to look at Daylet faced Telescope Goldfish. The attack

was so sharp laugh that sounded seat springs.

“Ignore her. To me it made me something like a zombie preg- nant woman.”

  “Zombie woman, what?

The truck wheels moving again, and breathed a sigh of relief. “Do not you have pictures of your daughter?” Asked the girl

  taking seriously the issue again.

“Had some, a few. My Sami is shy, does not like photographs. And if you mean if I have pictures of her after transformation, the answer is a resounding no. She’s like those corpses have just seen, but ten years.” She felt uncomfortable, but by his own res- ponse by Daylet question
.

  “I’m sorry, Rachel.”

“Spare me your condolences. So, you are telling someone who lost a loved one, and she is alive. Is that clear?”

“Clearer than water” girl said sunken in the seat.

“It would be a good idea to tell me exactly what to do to help me recover.

“I could explain without much technicality. The field of nano- technology is very extensive, and so tiny that more working-level quantum laws that the very laws of physics that you know today. But I will not flaunt my projects, nor do I intend to expose a cli- nical trial. What you ask me is at my fingertips if you talk tissue replacement. But I must see what they have in Iceberg.”

“Oh, girl! Iceberg have all,” added with self-sufficient air and

  quickened his pace.

Finally, they got off the truck in front of the largest center of world genetics. Rachel watched the building with hands on hips pose sports trophy. Colin, meanwhile, harbored happiness

savoring gets one piece in a journey of hungry cannibals; and bespectacled girl was scared to death in front of the cave monster.

She, the evil protagonist, the antagonist excellent, the perfect villain or the rarity of good, was the first to advance to the en- trance. His companions followed suit.

“Hey, psss,” murmured Daylet taking his arm, “if the eagle nest ended up with the world, what do you think will happen now that he has returned to his domain?”

“Stop being paranoid, this is where we will be safer. You said it yourself, the eagle went hunting, will now rest easy in the nest. Do the work that asked you to help save Samantha and you’ll earn your confidence.”

“I do not know Colin; I have a bad feeling.”

“Look, let’s get closer, I do not think that at this stage of the game there is no conspiracy.”

There was no one in Iceberg. The place was bleaker than a museum strafed by war. Although the lighting was feeling life, and when there is life, there is hope. Air conditioning facilities kept in perfect grade for a pleasant stay, no dust, and most of the lights were on; as if the next morning was a normal day for everyone. The place was practically abandoned massively, the few employees who insisted on staying soon flee days later. But nobody turned off the lights, nobody changed the air conditioning system, no- body cared out and leave the door open because never, absolutely never return.

In the living cryogenic chambers and outside the presence of Daylet and Colin, he put his hand in the tank where the body re- mained frozen Samantha. With eyes closed and head bowed lips moving as who would say a prayer to a saint. Upon leaving, he found Daylet about to take a cigarette and said:

“Then, girl, you want to see or not the department of nanotechnology?”

“I’m dying for that,” she said without a hint of hypocrisy.

The site was immense. Inside you could find anything able to travel to the walls of the atom. The girl did not walk, danced between teams like a kid at Disneyland! He took his time to ca- ress screens supercomputers with holographic patterns and stop in front of atomic force microscopes. During a pause, he took a transparent cylinder with a gold content inside.

“If that inspires passion is so strong in practice, my daughter certainly be saved. What do you think?” Rachel asked, aware that he knew better.

“She’s a genius. I was born that way. Once he told me that the first time observed through a microscope his life changed forever. Is that moment when the virginity of the ambiguities breaks, and you clear what you are going to deliver for the rest of your life.”

  “When it did happen?”

“A mid-year in middle school. He would have about twelve years alone. Go figure! At that age know that if you take away your dream, do not breathe. He alienated so much that it is no longer content to see plant or human cells. I said once sick so that his body seemed so much light fever. In his agonizing trans- parency he heard the prayers of his grandmother beside the bed, holding her hand to the old woman told him that the answer was not the body outward, but inward. One of her teachers contacted a group of specialists in molecular biology, and carried similar to this site. After that, he lowered his fever and regained color. How about?”

Rachel did not respond. His body was suffering from static shock. He hid a small storm of jealousy, but still wanted to know more.

“How many years has the nerd say?” “Twentynine, and as I said, he is a genius.”

Daylet was stunned in front of the bottle with gold filaments

  inside.

“So, how about?” He asked Rachel slowly approaching as one

  who avoids scare a sleepwalker.

“With this it is enough to clear the virus in the blood. Are golden threads, used at the atomic level, can...”

“Shut up now!” She interrupted brusquely. “Let me refresh your head. In the cryogenic process it is vital to replace the blood by the cryoprotectant liquid. My daughter is inside a tank at -196

° C. What do you think would happen at such a low temperature? Besides, why do you think her blood was used to contaminate the world but with yourself capsules manufactured?”

“What you need me, then?” She asked disgusted humiliation.

“Look, insect brain. I’m sure you are unable to survive in a world like that is raised now. So, let’s make a deal: take care of bringing my daughter with a human face, and I’ll make sure you live to the end of the plague. Then you and your mentholated cigarettes can disappear from sight. Ah! And one more thing, the key part is to replace brain damage. No matter how well your skin look, if you do not remember me or simply your mind does not work well, everything I’ve done so far would make no sense.”

He clarified the matter, pulled away to put ideas in order.

“What I wanted to challenge the beast?” Chided Colin giving a nudge on the shoulder.

“She needs me, you not are going to kill me now, right?” Said Daylet hesitated with tears in her eyes peering.

“Daylet, what it costs you to please with the theme of your daughter? And heard, no one can survive outside. Humanity are no longer people. The only safe place is this. Enough go against Rachel. Enough, for God’s sake.”

“I hate her. I hated her since she injected me the lie and told his apocalyptic plan. I do not know what the fuck you see that woman. He not even has good attributes. In that body there is nowhere to grab,” she said jealous.

“Believe me, she does have good attributes, and the best are skin inward. In addition, there are things that do not touch with

  your hands.”

  “For example, asshole?”

“Futuristic, intelligence silly... Right now, is the queen bee of the fucking world.”

“Is that why you sleep with her? What’s the plan? A son if Samantha goes wrong? Is that?”

“Have you listening? You’re not thinking things right. Do not you dare say that again!”

“No, Colin, I’m not thinking straight since my hands were in- volved in making the shot that turned it into the world to kill them all.”

“Think. You came to the truck when we release those zombies

in the lab. That’s called destiny.”

“No, dude, that was lucky. Look, do not take it anymore. Come with me. Let’s scape. There are hundreds of safe places in this country.”

“I’m sorry, Daylet, my place is here. There is no safer place

than this,” he finished the conversation away from her.

The girl was very hurt. He had suffered more in recent weeks than in all his life whole. On his head he went to find the keys to the truck and get out; scoot truth. I not stand the attitude of Rachel and betrayal of his only friend. He felt tickled because of the tears that trickled under his eyes, but they were not tickle that make you laugh, they were tears of desolation and tear these cheeks. He left the room nanotechnology to finish mourn for a corner. He walked aimlessly and sat in a corner of Iceberg. A while later, a shadow fell near her. He deluded belief that it was Colin, who ca
me to apologize. He looked up and took a fright when he saw Frank near his feet.

  Chapter 16. Land of zombies.

Frank crossed the country making his way through the un- dead, watching his men fell because of the epidemic. His anger was getting sick, because the world in which he lived was a land of zombies. Cadet’s disappearance, his team counterintelligence, and even the president, represented only a part of their pain. He did not recognize the girl who was crying, but I was convinced that Rachel was there, somewhere Iceberg.

“Who you are?” Daylet asked puzzled.

The man pulled a gun and pointed it looking aside. “Where is Rachel Hayes?”

“I’m Rachel Hayes,” said Daylet without considering the consequences.

“Are you so well trained that you do go through it to protect her? Rachel know, and you do not even dream you look. Go!

Frank lifted his arm hurting him hard. The girl made a gesture of pain and walked forward with the certainty that the gun never left his head. Even he knew exactly where he was going. Then he recognized an entrance and hurried. Frank did not lose the sligh- test trace. They entered a room and saw Colin behind a computer.

“You want to know where Rachel? Ask the idiot that.”

Frank did not know exactly what was happening. I was con- fused. He found the girl with tears in her eyes, pretending to Ra- chel Hayes, as if a bullet right there. But at the same time, he expressed disgust when he spoke her name.

“Hey, you! Get up slowly without doing anything stupid!” He

  ordered.

Colin got up slowly and completely before stretching his legs, ran through a door at his back.

“You and I will talk later,” he told Daylet giving sidesteps pre- paring the race.

She nodded twice incognito character if not enough to cap- ture the gesture the first time. The persecution was not extensive. A couple of aisles, an inlet end, and there, like a trapped mouse, panted Dr. Colin fear.
