Realization drove a dagger into Aravon’s gut. “The traitor!” The same traitor that had revealed the location of Silver Break Mine to the Eirdkilrs. “He had to have sent the poison with…” His eyes flew wide.
“With Lord Virinus or one of the Black Xiphos mercenaries.”
The words had an instant effect on his six companions. They leapt to their feet, on full alert.
“The bastards!” Colborn growled.
“Backstabbing cunts!” Noll added his fury.
“We’ve got to hunt them down, Captain!” Skathi’s fist tightened around the arrow she’d been fletching. “Just get me within range of them—”
“We’ll string them up by the cullions and make them bleed,” Belthar snarled.
“Damned right!” Anger blazed in Aravon’s gut. “That’s exactly what we’re going to do.” He turned a furious gaze on the six soldiers facing him. “We’re going to find Lord Virinus and those mercenaries, even if we have to hunt them through every Keeper-damned mile between here and Icespire. And when we find them…” He cracked his knuckles loudly. “By the Swordsman, we’ll find out who is truly the traitor to the Princelands once and for all.”
