Memory Seal- Volume 2 Page 15

Taking advantage of this, Wesley, still in his questionable state, soared into the air and unleashed a torrential rain of icicles from the sky. So many icicles fell from the sky that even the sun was shadowed, for a brief moment.

Yet, even as the icicles rained down upon the Clairmont soldiers, thousands of barriers were cast amongst the troops, protecting the majority of the soldiers from harm.

But another, then another torrent of icicles fired down from above. Although most of the barriers held, several broke, leaving the soldiers that had been protected by them vulnerable to the icicles.

By the hundreds, soldiers fell to the ground.

This scene caused Kate and Luke, who’d followed Wesley, to gape in awe. Just what the hell was going on?? Why was Wesley this strong?

More importantly, however, this caused the Clairmont soldiers to have to fight on two fronts, which further empowered the Reiniad Kingdom’s soldiers attack.

Quickly enough, they’d broken the encirclement, and ran as fast as they could to the north. As soon as this happened, the mages who’d been atop the city walls took to the air, headed toward the north themselves, just as the rest of the Clairmont Kingdom’s forces had made it to the northern wall.

It was at this time, that the light suddenly faded from Wesley’s eyes. Almost immediately, his body began plummeting toward the earth.

After all, Wesley himself didn’t have the ability to fly, yet.

With the Reiniad Kingdom’s soldiers rampaging towards them, Kate and Luke would have to run against them in order to save Wesley, but the two didn’t even pause before sprinting towards Wesley, drawing seals at the same time.

Before they even got into range, however, a figure swooped in from the sky, and caught Wesley midair.

The figure was, of course, Headmaster Farhir.

He quickly landed next to Kate and Luke, and pulled them into the sky with magic.

“Kids, what the hell are you doing here?? Didn’t you guys leave?”

“...It’s a long story.” Kate replied.

“I’m sure. We’ll have a lot to talk about after this one ends.”

  “Yeah.”

After chasing the escaped Reiniad soldiers for a few hours, the Clairmont soldiers returned to claim their victory over Lumient City. However, it felt a hollow victory for them - their kingdom had but three King-class mages to provide a backbone for the country’s forces, and they had all perished in the siege.

  Hardly worth it.

Yet, they’d killed the legend that was Christopher Lumient, one of the strongest King-class mages of the Magmont Continent.

For those of the Reiniad Kingdom, the day had been an absolute and complete fiasco. Not only had they lost their capital city, as well as tens of thousands of soldiers, but they had lost their most powerful King-class mage.

The only silver lining, was that over a hundred thousand soldiers had successfully escaped from Lumient City, and with Clairmont Kingdom lacking King-class mages, the time would soon come when they would be able to launch a counterattack.

And attack, they would. Even as the leaders of the Reiniad Kingdom convened to plan their next steps, Arthur Lumient sent a message to a few thousand mages scattered across the world: The Lumient family requires your services.

In the middle of all this, however, Wesley stayed unconscious for two whole weeks - even the most skilled in healing magics were unable to help.

When he finally regained consciousness, however, he saw that someone was standing next to his bed. Seeing who it was, he couldn’t help but quickly blink a few times, confused.

After a few moments passed, he posed the question. “What are you doing here?”

“Well, ranger school didn’t seem too important with the country at war. Actually, most of my classmates are working as scouts for the army now. So, I thought, why not go and see how my bro’s doing.

And, goddamn. I come over here, and you’re all unconscious and crap. Well, no matter. Big bro’s here, and I’ll whup whoever’s ass I have to for putting you into this situation.”

  “Thanks, Gust.”
