  “Dec,” she croaked out.

He pulled her into his arms, burying her face into his chest. I’m sorry, Emry. He didn’t know what else to say.

But his voice in her head seemed to settle her blast of emotions. Settled it on anger. Declan felt it sear through her and into him.

“Where are the advisors?” She asked darkly, her voice low.

All at once, as if they’d been waiting for her question – waiting and watching her reaction at seeing Onyx’s broken body – the double doors behind Piran and Cit were flung open. Helmed soldiers in the colors of Enlennd – silver, white, and black – cascaded into the room. A waterfall of bodies with swords drawn.

Cit shrieked and clutched onto Piran who had wrapped an arm around her middle, twisting her around behind him again. Piran drew his axe in one hand from his hip and a sword in his other. The soldiers encircled Piran and Cit and continued forward to Declan and Emry.

The clang of steel rang through the air – the sound of Piran’s weapons against theirs. Louder than even the slapping of the boots over the wood floor.

  Emry gasped. It’s an ambush.

Emry and Declan will return in A Pair of Silver & Teal.

  ACKNOWLEDGMENTS

I will always owe Bryce the most when it comes to my books. You are my Pair. I really do mean that. You are the Declan to my Emry, and I say that in the cheesiest way possible. Thank you for being willing to take the kids out so I can have some quiet to write and edit. Thank you for not complaining when I lock myself up for hours at night just to finish getting one more chapter out. Thanks for helping me make my wild ideas into written form. I love you. You’ll always be my favorite.

Heather, you’re next. I’m so grateful to have you as my editor and designer. I know I pester you probably way too much to keep to deadlines – crazy ones I’ve created for us – but you seem to always rise to the challenge. I’m lucky to know you. Thank you.

Hillary, I swear you’re almost as tied up in these books as Heather and I are. Thank you for being a sort of second editor and an excellent topographer of imaginary lands.

Another special thanks goes to my parents, siblings, and my babies. You all are infused into my writing, whether in the attributes of my characters or as sounding boards for my fantasies. Thank you all for being an influence in my life and supporting me.

Last, but not least, thank you to all my fans. I appreciate all your support and encouraging words. Bookstagram has been such a welcoming place, and I’m so grateful to have met many of you there. I read every single review and message you send me. I love reading what you think of my stories. Thank you!
