“Isn’t it too early to tell?” Noelle asked him indulgently.
“Is it?” Jerrold turned to look at Debbie who was causing a furor among the staff members as they tried to make sure that the personal friend of the royalties was more than comfortable and well taken care of.
“I don’t think so, but what I do know is that both you and the mother need to get some rest,” she said as she looked at the nurse.
The woman nodded and went to get the baby from Jerrold. He held him a minute longer before handing him over and going over to his wife.
“I will leave you two alone,” Debbie told them with a smile. She walked out of the room and closed he doors behind her. “See to it that they are not disturbed,” she told the nurse.
“Of course, your Highness.”
In the room, with his arms around her and her head lolling back against his chest, Jerrold stroked her back tenderly, overwhelmed with emotions. “Have I told you how much I love you?”
“Yes, but you know how I love validation,” she whispered.
“I love you, my darling wife.”
“I love you too,” she said softly. They had adjusted themselves to living in the country and it felt so much like home to them. The sports complex was up and running and the first two matches had already happened with others lined up. The nursery had been decorated and maybe several months down the road, Noelle was going to be helping out in the hospital as well as helping Debbie with her duties. She and her husband had been back home for two weeks after their month-long honeymoon where they had toured Europe. Her father had married Marjorie in July in a quiet ceremony and both of them had come to visit twice already. They were due to come back tomorrow to see the baby as well as Jerrold’s parents.
The months following their marriage had been such an experience for her as she got to know her husband and marvel at the love that he showed her every single time even when they had their disagreements.
She wrapped her hands around him and closed her eyes, feeling the steady beat of his heart and thanked God for being home!
