  “Sounds good,” Becky said. “You could make wooden toys, perhaps fancy cribs as well.”

  “Dyson’s Creek is growing. There’s talk about the railway coming through,” Ryan said. “You can stay with us until you get set up.”

  “Thanks. I’ll stay a couple of nights in town and take a look around. If I could find a suitable spot, I could hire someone to help me build a workshop and perhaps a couple of rooms to live in.” Enthusiasm erased the tired lines etching his face.

  “We’d like you to live somewhere near us, wouldn’t we, Ryan?” If it made her husband happy to have his brother close by, she was prepared to forgive and forget past hurts.

  From a gal who had been little more than a slave and an outcast, she was now a woman who was blessed, and she didn’t mind sharing her good fortune.

  She has always loved Westerns, soaking up all the western shows on TV and at the movies when she was young. Bonanza was her favorite show. Little Joe Cartwright (Michael Landon) her hero, although John Wayne is close on his heels. Zane Grey was her favorite Western Author.
