Max - Three Silverback Bears and a Baby Book One Page 15

by Raines, Harmony

“I love you, Max. Today is just the start of our lives together.” She kissed his lips and he slid his tongue along her bottom lip and then explored her mouth. He tasted of coffee and something sweet. Honey.

His fingers curled around the hem of her nightshirt and he tugged it upward, exposing her soft belly and then higher. He sighed as his hand cupped her breast and his thumb brushed over her nipple until it hardened. Breaking their kiss, he lowered his head and licked the flat of his tongue over the tip of her nipple. Her insides clenched, and her fingers curled around his hair as she cradled his head in her arms.

Fire licked at her insides, she needed him inside her, deep inside her. Easing her thighs apart, she urged him to move between them. He guided himself into her, his hardened length entering her, stretching her inner muscles.

What a start to the day. Josephine closed her eyes and reveled in the sensations flooding her body. Each touch of his fingers and kiss from his lips took her arousal up a notch. He wasn’t just the best man she’d ever met, but the best lover, too.

With each thrust, each lunge as he filled her completely, their bodies worked in symmetry. It was as if they had rehearsed a thousand times until they knew each other inside and out. Maybe it was because they were older in years, experienced and aware of how their bodies responded. She didn’t know, she didn’t care.

All she did care about was that Max would be the only man for her for the rest of her life.

He lunged deeper, before pulling back out, and she grazed her fingernails down his back, urging him on, while she kissed and nipped the sensitive skin of his neck. Her excitement grew, the tension in her body almost too much.

She needed to come, she needed to climax.

Wrapping her legs around him, she changed the angle of her body. With each thrust, he grazed her mound. The sensations pushed her higher until at last, she came.

Turning her head, she bit into the pillow, drowning out her cries, not wanting to wake Milly. Not yet. These moments alone were precious.

Thoughts of Milly were swept away as Max came, his climax setting off a chain reaction in her body. Two orgasms, this was going to be a great day.

She giggled, her body shaking as her orgasm slipped away. Max lifted his head and cupped her face in his hands. “I’m not sure laughter was what I was aiming for,” he said breathlessly.

“I was thinking about how lucky I am.” She lifted her head off the pillow and kissed his lips. “So very lucky.”

Josephine sobered as she looked into his eyes. Before she’d moved to Bear Creek, before she met Max, she would never have thought of herself as being lucky. But now when she looked in the mirror, the woman staring back at her was one of the luckiest people alive. She knew love. She knew the value of that love. Perhaps because she’d spent so many years without it.

“We are going to have a great day.” He kissed her, and then raised his head. “Milly is awake.”

With a quick peck on the cheek, she pushed him out of bed. “Go. I’ll get us both ready.”

“Jake will be here at twelve.” Max hopped out of bed and grabbed his clothes, dressing as fast as he could before running for the door.

“I love you,” she called after him.

Max turned around and came back to the doorway. He blew her a kiss, which she pretended to catch. “I love you.”

  Then he was gone.

Josephine grabbed a robe and got out of bed. Padding to Milly’s room, she picked the small child out of her crib and kissed her cheek. “This is going to be a special day.”

“Mama,” Milly’s high sweet voice filled the room, leaving Josephine in tears.

“It really is a special day already.”

“You look stunning.” Jake kissed her cheek as he entered the house.

“I keep telling her that, but she doesn’t believe me,” Fiona said as she stood back, casting a critical eye over Josephine.

“She’s brave enough to disagree with you?” Jake asked as he kissed Josephine on the cheek and handed her a gift. “This is from Tad and me.”

“You didn’t have to get me anything,” Josephine told him as she snapped open the jewelry box. “Oh, wow.”

“I’ll help you put it on.” Jake carefully took the diamond and sapphire necklace and slipped it around Josephine’s neck. “Do you approve, Fiona?”

Fiona narrowed her eyes as she gazed at the necklace. “I approve.” She leaned down and picked up Milly. “And now I am going to leave you. Milly and I will be waiting for you at the house.”

“Thank you for everything, Fiona.” Josephine crossed the living room and looked at her reflection in the mirror. “I love it.”

“It looks beautiful on you.” Jake stood behind her, gazing at her reflection.

“The luckiest person alive just got luckier.” She looked up and caught his confused expression. “I was talking about myself. Once upon a time, I thought I was the unluckiest person alive. Moving here and meeting you all has changed my mind.”

“You are proof people can change. You inspire me, Josephine.” Jake took hold of her hand and she turned to face him as he raised it to his lips.

“You will find happiness,” Josephine promised him.

“Right now, we need to find my brother who will be waiting impatiently for you.” He led her out of the house and to his car. “He is a very lucky man.”

“If I forget to tell you later, I just want to thank you for agreeing to give me away.” She slid into his sleek black Porsche and he helped her tuck her dress in. Josephine had chosen an ivory floor-length dress that hung beautifully and knocked ten pounds off her figure. Simple and understated, she hoped to look sophisticated as she walked up the aisle on Jake’s arm.

And then back down the aisle with Max.

As they left her house behind and drove out of town and toward the Harrison house, she gazed out of the window. “I thought I’d be more nervous.”

“Maybe it’s because you know this is the right thing. You are marrying your mate,” Jake reminded her. “There’s no reason to doubt him. So even if the whole day went pear-shaped, you would still be happy with the man you love.”

She half turned to look at Jake. “You say the nicest things.”

“Thank you.” He turned off the road and the car crawled along the driveway toward the house. “Fiona is waiting.” He switched off the engine and opened his car door. Jumping out, he dashed around to the passenger side and offered Josephine his hand. “Ready?”

“Yes.” Josephine took Jake’s hand and he helped her out of the car. “Is my dress okay?”

Jake took a step back and looked at her critically, before he grinned. “The dress is okay. You are perfect.”

“Thank you.” Color rose in her cheeks as she smiled broadly.

“You are always welcome,” Jake replied. “Shall we go?”

Josephine nodded and hooked her arm around Jake’s.

As they began walking toward the house, Fiona joined them with Milly in her arms. “I can’t tell you how happy I am for you all,” Fiona said. “Days like this make all the long working hours and heartbreak worth it.”

Jake leaned forward and kissed Fiona’s cheek. “We have a lot to thank you for, Fiona. You were there when we needed you all those years ago, and you have brought Milly and Josephine into our lives.”

“Wait, Fiona was there when you lost your parents?” Fiona asked in shock.

“I am as old as time.” Fiona gave a knowing smile. “But time waits for no man and we have to get you married, and this little lady is waiting to become an official member of the Harrison household, too.”

Fiona carried Milly around the side of the house with Josephine and Jake following. Josephine tried to process the news about Fiona, but as she looked up at the crowd of well-wishers filling the garden, and caught sight of Tad in his tux, she realized none of it mattered.

Not when the man of her dreams was waiting for her. Waiting to marry her.
/>   As she took her first step down the aisle, she took a step into her new life. Milly and Josephine were about to be welcomed into the lives of three bear shifters, and as she saw Max waiting for her, and love swelled in her heart, she hoped Tad and Jake, her two new brothers, would find their own mates and their own happiness one day.

  One day soon.
