“As long as I get to be there with you, I wouldn’t complain a bit.”
“Who cares what temperature it is?” Macie said. “Baby, I’m never cold—”
Aaron laughed and finished the sentence, “— because you warm my heart.”
Macie sighed and leaned her head on his shoulder, looking out at the tractor as it continued to dig the hole that, as they watched over the next few months, would slowly become their together home. “You know, I’ve imagined this moment so many times over the past...fifteen years, I guess—since I was thirteen and watched this same moment happen for my oldest brother and his fiancée. And in all my imagining, never did my brain come up with something this wonderful.” She turned her face toward his. “You, Aaron Hall, are even more incredible than my very impressive imagination.”
Then she turned toward him, put her hands on his cheeks, and pressed her lips against his. Lips that were soft, confident, and sure. He moved his hand up her back to rest at the nape of her neck, his fingers in her hair, and returned her kiss, his own lips filled with hope, possibilities, and excitement for their future together.
