Alpha tried to bring up more images, but he couldn’t.
There were no more cameras, no more people, no more planet.
“They are all dead,” Alpha said his face paler than Bravo Two had seen. “She killed them all.”
“Wait? What?”
“She destroyed the entire planet, it’s gone. Doctor M, she activated a weapon, one left behind on their world.”
“They are all dead?”
“They are all dead.”
“move aside,” Bravo said and she began typing on the keys. The screen changed to black and then showed an image of the moon.
“What are you doing?”
“Making sure.”
She pressed at the control panel and the screen jumped between images of planets, suns and stars. Then static.
“The satellite is gone too.” Bravo Two said going back to the previous image. “Whatever she did took out the nearest satellite. This is as close as we can get to the planet now, do you see anything?”
Alpha squinted at the screen, their eyesight was good, but he couldn’t see anything that stood out.
“There!” Bravo Two said pointing to a star that suddenly shone brighter, expanded then disappeared. “The time delay, that was it, the planet. You were right. It is gone.”
“So they can’t come back to reclaim this world, to start a war for it all over again? he asked, hesitantly.
Bravo Two took his hand and squeezed it, his stomach fluttered in that familiar way and he smiled.
They strolled through the halls of the place that created them, the place that nearly killed them, but somehow also became the place that truly set them free.
