Meridias Page 50

by Ryan Hodgson

Conceptual Enchanting: This type of enchanting differs from normal enchanting in that it utilizes a person’s conceptual knowledge to enchant a weapon or object rather than weaving together various spells to get the desired result. Conceptual enchanting is incredibly dangerous however as lacking a clear conceptual picture can lead to whatever is being enchanted to literally explode in their face. This does not necessarily mean that the user is capable of using the magic that the weapon is enchanted with. In Tim’s case he lacked the conduit that let him use offensive types of magic. Since this type of enchanting bypasses the spell casting process it is closer to the way Elunduil uses magic.

  Writer’s Room

Editing. Done. Synopsis. Done. Book cover. Done.

The only thing left to do now is to put everything together and publish the book.

I lean back in my chair from my computer and look around my cluttered room and the art scattered around the walls.

Now then it’s about time. The door into my room opens and I look to see a girl with orange hair.

  Alicia: Where am I?

I twirl my chair about to face my visitor.

I: This is my room Alicia. The readers would have already read your name so…

Alicia: Um, ok. You’re not Elunduil are you?

I: No, and right now this place is a sort of… a pocket dimension where I can converse with you outside of the book. You should be aware of everything that’s happened in the story thus far.

Alicia slowly nods. The situation is still strange to her.

I: Anyway I we won’t be talking about anything that happens in book 3 so temper your expectations.

  That would be you, reader.

I: I’m just going to ask you a bit about yourself. So what kind of hobby’s do you have?

Alicia: Uh, well I guess since Meridias is real then… I like to listen music and playing card games. Also shopping for shoes!

  I: That’s… normal.

Alicia: Well you’re the one that imagined me as having boring hobbies.

  Laughter

I: True, but you have a darker side to your personality that started rearing its head in Meridias.

  Alicia looks uncomfortable.

Alicia: Can I ask something? Why did you give me a sad backstory?

I: Well to be honest I’m kind of drawn to that sort of thing. I see a beauty in sad stories where the subject overcomes their pain and becomes stronger. You story will be… interesting.

  Alicia: That’s not very comforting…

I: Heh heh, yeah. Anyway I’m not good at asking questions so I’ll end with this: What is your favorite color?

  Alicia: (That’s it?) Blue.

I nod and gesture to the door.

I: Well once you leave you’ll forget this place. Maybe next time I’ll have Joel appear.

Alicia: I just realized this but what’s your name?

I: I’m the author but you could call me The One Who Dreams.

Alicia nods then leaves my room. The door closes behind her and I sigh and stare out my window at the grey clouds in the sky.

A cloud of blocky, speckled colors appear in my view and sharpen

A girl stands before me. There’s confusion in her emerald eyes as she gazes at me.

Mysterious Girl: W-where am I? Who are you?

Her coral brown hair is held up by a large white ribbon and starkly contrasts the grey world outside.

I: Well I can show you where you were…

I gesture to my computer screen.

Comprehension dawns on the girl and her eyes begin to tear up as she looks to me for confirmation.

I: You should be aware of it now. That these

Are just words on a page.

Mysterious Girl: I understand. This space is where you, the author, use a construct of you to interact with the characters in your story. Why did you bring me here though? I don’t think I’d be of use to you.

Well I can’t spoil the plot but you’re similar to Elunduil. He too has seen past the wall of his world. I never wanted to delete you in the game so here you are.

Mysterious Girl: … That’s very sweet but I don’t want to be a character in a scripted world again.

I have no intention of making you a character in my stories. What you do is up to you. Interact with the readers if you want to but try not to break up the flow of the story. Although I’m making a reference it might be safer if you changed your clothes. Your grey blazer and blue skirt are pretty synonymous with your character. Maybe a name change too… No that would be cruel. Forget I said that last part.

Mysterious Girl: Ahaha! Yes I agree! Next time I will change my appearance for the readers. Ahem! That being said you still didn’t tell me the most important thing about you. What’s your name?

  Just Ryan

Mysterious Girl: Hey! That’s mean! Please don’t bring up that dark part of my past like that!

  Laughter

Ahem! Thank you for reading this bit dear readers! Since the author has gone to work I shall entertain you from here!

… Ahaha! Sorry I’m not used to this yet. I’ll prepare something won
derful for next time so please look forward to book 3 of the Ex Nihilo Saga: Skyward!

  Have a wonderful day!

Don’t tell the author but I want to pop in on Elunduil in the next book!

You are aware that I look at these when I’m compiling everything together right?

Oh he caught me! Ahaha oops! I’ll have to be more careful.

Whatever I’m ending this segment. Look forward to the author and I next time!

  Shoo already!
