Kissed by Death - Book three of the Trueborn Heirs Series Page 49

by Queen, Nyna

“If you really think I would give a damn about easy, you’re even more stupid than you look,” Alex snapped. Why the hell would she go for easy if she could have him?

“I love you,” she told him. “With everything I am.”

A soft, gentle warmth filled Darken’s eyes, turning them from dark brown to that rich, intoxicating shade of espresso laced with a sip of golden whiskey, reminding her so much of their very first encounter. So deep and staggering and familiar, and what she read in them drove her heart rate up to hazardous levels.

  “Then stay with me, Alex.”

His lips were so close she only had to tilt her head up a smidgen to touch them.

It could be hers, she realized with her heart pounding in her throat. Everything she’d dreamed of could be hers. If she dared to take the plunge. The realization filled her with excitement—and a little fear. She swallowed. “But … you’re a trueborn royal, I’m a shaper mongrel … how is this ever gonna work?”

Darken’s lips slowly curved into his arrogant, lazy trueborn smile that always made her want to punch him, but mostly just made her want to kiss him. “Just let that be my worry.”

The backpack slipped from Alex’s fingers and dropped onto the platform with a clattering sound as she wrapped her arms around Darken’s neck and pressed her lips to his.

Darken growled low in his throat and circled his arms around her lower back, slightly lifting her feet off the ground as he pulled her to him.

“Last call for the speed coach to Calgary,” the station master called out. Three sharp whistles cut through the air.

Darken wound his arms tighter around Alex and kissed her with a fierceness that bordered on insanity. His burning lips covered hers, their touch raging through her, setting every inch of her body on fire and reaching deep into the hindmost corners of her soul.

Sweet Jester and may the Great Mother be merciful! This was what it had to be like to be kissed by Death, but instead of dying, Alex felt more alive than ever before and so unspeakably happy she literally couldn’t find any words for it.

Far away, she heard the long-distance coach gaining speed and hurtling out of the station, but she didn’t care. She was high above the ground, floating somewhere on the edge between heaven and hell, and she didn’t plan on coming back down to earth for at least the next hundred years.

Sweet Jester, if this is a dream, please, please, never let me wake up again!

When they finally broke apart, Alex and Darken were both out of breath and the platform was all but empty around them. They looked at each other and grinned.

Darken raised one hand, gently tugging a strand of pale blond hair behind her ear and running his thumb over her lips, his touch light as a feather. “I love you, Alexis Harper.”

Lifting one eyebrow, Alex gave him a sly smile. “You know you shouldn’t have said that, sugar,” she drawled, “because now I’ve trapped you in my web, and I will never let you go again.”

Darken bent down and cupped her face with both hands, the kiss that followed a sweet, delicious promise of everything that was waiting for them.

“In that case,” he whispered as his lips softly brushed hers, “I’m exactly where I want to be.”

  THE END
