Something about that dream just struck me different. Something wasn't, I don't know, it was too real to just be a dream, but I had woken up in my own bed, so it had to have been a dream, right?
My thoughts as usual were a mess. I decided to head to the library and see if I could find any books on Reavers, my curiosity was piqued or was I just using it as an excuse to think about him? Maybe a little of both.
I scoured what seemed like every shelf and there was literally nothing on Reavers. I finally found a book with one passage stating a Reaver was the most dangerous creature in the underworld due to their vast abilities.
It also said there were 4 Reavers that ruled the underworld, high priests it called them. Ramses, Raphael, Rowen and Raziel. I gasped! His name was Raziel! But how? How could that information come to me in a dream? It made me wonder what else in my dream was true.
I ran outside and looked up at all of the mountains and peaks above the city, straining to see if there might be an enormous castle anywhere that I missed. Sadly I saw nothing, but that doesn't mean I didn't believe it was still possibly real.
I went back in and read the rest of the passages. I learned that each high priest runs multiple covens of up to 13 Reavers, thus making me think there were quite a bit more of them than I anticipated.
I racked my brain on the way home, something just wasn't right. I decided to let it go for now, I had just gotten home and I needed to check my closet for something to wear to The Edge. I had made up my mind, I was going.
I was sifting through my closet when I felt that all too familiar venomous link into my mind. "We will be going to The Edge this weekend, I thought I would leave the spot on my arm open for you, if you're interested.. "Alpha Drake purred through our mind link, his voice less acidic Than usual.
I rolled my eyes, I'd had enough of his bullshit and wasn't afraid to talk back anymore knowing Raziel was on my side. "I'd rather die" I spat, trying to be as venomous as possible with my words.
"That can be arranged, you know," he said with a smirk. "I fucking dare you" I shot, not caring how pissed I was making him. I heard him snicker, "Very well, but I will be dressed in black and silver, I expect you to match me if you change your mind." And he ended the mind link.
Wynter made gagging noises and I couldn't help but laugh. He thought I was planning on wearing Silver and Black? Ha, little did he know I had a new color in mind as I left to do a little shopping.
Chapter 17
I took one last look at myself in the mirror, satisfied with my appearance. I had found the most perfect dress for tonight, it was solid gold and shimmered in the light with a set of black accent chains hanging off the single shoulder.
I decided even though it was scarily close to the dress from my dream, it was not the same color so it would suffice. Plus I really liked that whole one shoulder thing. It was shorter than I intended but it fit well accentuating my curves.
I paired it with some gold 6 inch heels, with black and gold straps that went up over my ankle. My hair fell to my waist in beachy waves. I decided it was time for a new style, plus I really liked my hair in that dream so why not?
Gold eyeshadow adorned my eyelids, with black in the creases, and my black mascara to match. On my lips was a glitter gold gloss, not too overpowering, just enough to show a glint of glitter in the right lighting. I felt banging hot and ready to go. Wynter let out an approving howl at our reflection in the mirror.
Roman was picking me up in 20 minutes but I was ready early. I wondered if I should invite Raziel, but what would a Reaver care to go to a club for? I shouldn't be bothering him with such trivial things anyways so I pushed the thought out of my mind.
I couldn't help but wonder if he would like my outfit, he always wore something gold in his attire. I couldn't hide my smile though when I realized how mad Alpha Drake was going to be to see me in gold and black and not my usual Silver and black. And especially not matching him.
The thought made Wynter bust out laughing, as we heard Roman's car honking. Roman had offered to give me a ride even though I didn't need it, but he insisted. I was still leery of him, wondering if there was more to his story, but I agreed.
I was still determined to figure out why he was suddenly in my life and so persistent to accompany me literally everywhere. He had no idea how bad of an idea it was to be in my life.
Roman was wearing black slacks, black shoes, and a black long sleeved button down shirt that was not buttoned all the way exposing his muscular chest. He had a neon green pocket square matching his neon green eyes, and his hair was a little tousled. Fitting club attire I thought to myself as I got into his black and green mustang and we headed to The Edge.
“Alpha Drake sends his regards" I said to the bouncer at the door. That was our code so they would know that we are wolves and what pack we belonged to.
They put a neon wolf stamp on our hands that lit up under the black light at the bar, that told the bartenders who we were and allowed us to drink underage. Alcohol didn't affect us like humans anyways, so what could it hurt?
When we got inside the club was swarming with people. There was a mixture of humans, wolves, vampires, and some other species that I wasn't all too familiar with. We rarely had to deal with any other species so I was a little in the dark.
I must Have really looked good though judging by the looks I kept getting from everyone as we walked by, that had my confidence on a high and I was feeling rather cocky.
The club was three levels, on the main level was a big dance floor with a dj playing dubstep and dance remixes, this was my favorite music. There were alot of lasers and colored lights flashing to the beat.
The second floor was more of a chill floor with a lot of slow dancing going on and choreography type dances, line dances and things like that. I noticed the bar up there was significantly less busy as well.
The third floor was essentially a balcony looking out over the city. It was covered but not enclosed. There were couches, tables and chairs set up all over. There was not a dj on this floor, but you could hear the music from the floors below so it wasn't needed. There was a bar on this level as well.
After Roman and I had checked out the 3 floors we headed to the second floor to grab some drinks. I ordered a dragon fruit margarita on the rocks with salt on the rim and a sidecar of tequila. Roman ordered a whiskey and coke. I thought it was a little strange that he didn't want to leave my side.
He knew we were going simply as friends, hell we didn't even coordinate outfits for that reason. I did not want anyone to get the wrong idea, and have the info somehow get back to Raziel, and have an Eric #2 situation in the middle of the club. The thought made me shudder, but also the idea of Raziel being here excited me. I pushed the thought away and brought my thoughts back to Roman.
I thought maybe he would meet up with some friends but it seemed like the only person he knew there was me. We were just hanging out, talking about patrol and watching the crowd from the bar when Alpha Drake walked in and of course he locked eyes with me.
I let out a growl and Roman looked between us with a confused look, "Here we go" I said with an eye roll as Alpha Drake headed my way.
Chapter 18
(Alpha Drake)
I headed into the club knowing that more than half of my pack would be there or following shortly. The Edge was a place where the creatures of the underworld frequented along with humans. It made an interesting collaboration for lack of a better word.
I forbid my pack from going here without myself present as we have had issues with the other species before. When I'm here no one dares step to me or my pack knowing my history and that's exactly why I'm here with them. I would do anything for those loyal in my pack, but those who disobey don't end up so lucky.
It's easier for me to kill them than punish them and wonder if they will do it again or not. I had complete control over everyone, except Rayne. She was my problem child, escaping death previously for disobeying because of that damn Reaver, a
nd since then she's been far from obedient.
I could feel her slipping from my control and I hated it, but a part of me also reveled in it. Knowing I couldn't harm her made me feel like I had no control, but I didn't realize just how much having no control over her would make me want her. It was like she was pushing every button I had, threatening to push me over the edge with every dirty look and every conflict on purpose. But I found myself wishing for more.
Something about her just had me hooked. I was determined to get my control back no matter the cost. I had told her there was a spot on my arm for her tonight and she rejected it, of course. I was on a mission to find her and try and talk some sense into her pretty little head.
I got word she was on the second floor at the bar with a young wolf newer to the pack so I headed that way. Roman I assumed, he was only new because he was requested by the Reaver to join us. I agreed only because If I want to keep what's mine I have to honor our agreement no matter how reluctant I am to do so.
I didn't ask why he wanted him around, but now I'm wondering if he's been instructed to watch over her as it seems he never wants to leave her side. My wolf, Samael growled at this fact, he also wanted dibs on Rayne dubbing her, "ours''.
I stepped onto the second floor, looked over at the bar and locked eyes with Rayne. She absolutely took my breath away in her tight golden dress with black accents, matching heels and makeup not to mention her hair was different, it was in waves instead of straight.
I was bothered that she wasn't wearing her go to silver/black and we didn't match as I had planned, but the gold really was a fitting color for her. I gave her a devious look and headed that way as she rolled her eyes at me. That singular movement had my wolf howling, I had to fight to calm him down.
On my way to the bar I snapped my fingers and the bartender already had my crown and coke waiting. I mind linked her since she was a wolf, to refill Raynes drink as well and she did as she was told. She set both of our drinks on the bar just as I arrived there.
"Alpha Drake, to what do we owe the pleasure?" Rayne said sarcastically, a gesture that had me pushed against the edge. I pushed her drink to her and she looked at me as if I had poisoned it, but took it anyways. Good girl I thought. That ounce of obedience had my lip turning up into a smile.
"Would you like to dance?" I asked her, knowing she would refuse. A chill ran down my spine at her next words. "Fuck off Alpha" She was always playing hard to get lately. "I don't know what you're playing at Alpha, but you should know I will never be your Luna!" She spat the words as if they were venomous, burning her lips as they left, spewing right into my ears.
The rush of her anger and disobedience was too much to handle and Samael took over. I closed the gap between us grabbing her by the throat and slamming her into the wall next to the bar.
My eyes were a solid black and I could tell she was afraid but trying not to show it. My emotions, unstable at best, were bursting through begging to be disobeyed again but my primal side wanted to punish her for it.
It was all I had to put my thumb softly on her bottom lip, my hand shaking, "You will not talk back to me again." I enunciated every word through gritted teeth. I could feel her blood boiling at my words, igniting my passion and rage even further.
"I will do whatever I choose" she spat, slamming her hand on my chest and that is when I felt it, that familiar burning/tingling sensation I remember from being suspended in the Reavers fireball. Surprised, I looked down just in time to see that Raynes hand was engulfed in a green fireball.
The next thing I know I'm flying into the adjacent wall with the force of a freight train. Everyone on the dance floor stopped and gasped in shock. I stood up, brushed my suit off and locked eyes with Rayne, she looked terrified and confused. Her hand was no longer engulfed in flames and it made me wonder if I had imagined that part but I knew better.
I knew what she was, I've always known, I just didn't realize it was happening so soon. Samael was fighting hard to get back out but I didn't let him because I knew she'd had enough.
I gave her a murderous glare, turned to walk away and I locked eyes with him, Mr. Kane, standing in the doorway.
Chapter 19
(Rayne)
My blood was boiling, how could Alpha Drake expect me to want anything to do with him after how he's always acted towards me? His hand against my throat, my back against the wall, such a familiar position we always ended up in.
He couldn't keep his temper under control in turn causing his wolf to lose it. To say he was hot headed was an understatement, and it didn't mesh well with my new found cockiness towards him, thanks to Raziel.
"You will not talk back to me again." The venom in his voice was oozing as he enunciated every word. I was fucking raging and I just lost it. I wasn't even sure what I was doing but it was like my hand knew exactly what to do.
"I will do whatever I choose" I spat and as if instinct took over I slammed my hand into the middle of his chest and he went flying into the adjacent wall. I could feel a burning/tingling sensation in my hand when I did that but when I looked down my hand looked normal.
I was so confused, how did I just do that? I was strong but no way I could have flung anyone, let alone my Alpha, into a wall with that much force.
Wynter was howling at the fact in my mind, telling me to run but I would never show that kind of fear. I would stand there and take whatever was coming to me and I would do it with a straight face.
I heard everyone at the club gasp and step a few feet back. I stood there in shock and terror, all eyes burning on me, as I watched my Alpha stand up, brush himself off and shoot me a murderous glare.
I thought I was dead, he was definitely not going to spare me this time. And then he turned as if to walk out of the room, and suddenly he froze. I followed his gaze and instantly could see why.
Raziel was standing in the doorway, golden eyes as dark as could be, intense gaze locked on Alpha Drake.
My heart fluttered at the sight of him, taking in his every inch. He was wearing a black suit with gold accents, gold shoes and a golden suit vest. Much like a previous outfit I recalled as it seemed familiar. His golden hair tousled in a way that seemed as if he had left In a hurry.
Anger, then worry shot across his face as he took in the room, and locked eyes on me. Surprise, followed by desire flashed through his eyes as he stalked towards me.
Everyone in the room had taken multiple steps back at this time, not moving, afraid to even breathe at the sight of a Reaver. This cleared him a path straight to me with the exception of Alpha Drake.
Raziel muttered something to my Alpha as he walked by, but didn't stop. Alpha Drake clenched his jaw and stormed off out of the room.
This whole time I hadn't even noticed but Roman was still right by my side. He hadn't moved an inch I swear, staying by me every chance he could. Even with Raziel stalking towards us he stayed put with a determined glare on his face. At this moment I appreciated his loyalty.
Raziel snapped his fingers and the whole club came alive, and acted as if they didn't just witness a wolf disobeying her Alpha, acting as if there were no Reaver standing right here. He snapped again and the bartender refilled mine and Roman's drinks, and slid a brandy on the rocks across the bar and right into Raziel's hand.
I watched as the liquid inside the cup instantly turned gold at his touch, as if on command. All of this unfolding by the time Raziel reached the bar which was seconds. It seemed as if in slow motion to me though.
Raziel was standing directly in front of me, his golden eyes full of different emotions, seeming to change every second, never left mine.
"Thank you Roman, you may be dismissed for now" he purred, "Yes sir, I will be downstairs when I'm needed again" he replied back, not an ounce of fear or wavering.
He shot me a million dollar smile, grabbed his drink and headed downstairs. "How the hell does Roman know Raziel?" Wynter questioned, but I was too lost in Raziel's molten golden orbs to even hear her or care.r />
Raziel grabbed my hand and broke our gaze to Inspect it. "Rayne, are you ok?" The worry in his voice was telling. Something wasn't right and I had a feeling I was about to find out what it was, or I would soon.
