I glanced at Mason whose mouth was coated with blood. "We need to clear the area, and Richard is still in the basement. Let's get moving." I was beyond tired and just wanted to go home.
Epilogue
The next forty-eight hours were a blur. The vampires were able to come together and settle on a new ruler. Now that no one in Nicholas’s bloodline was alive, they chose a new family to take on the responsibility. Mason and I were impressed with their choice. The new leader, Liam, appeared to have more of a moral code, which was a welcome change.
When I’d asked about Richard that night as we were leaving the mansion, Mason informed me that he had died. I knew for a fact that Richard had only been knocked out when we left the basement though. Rose must have bonded him to her, which ensured that if she died, he went with her.
Fortunately, King Adelmo was on the mend. His wife and fae healer had been close by, staying at one of the hotels in town. Even though it was ultimately a fatal wound, Teague was able to heal him.
There you are. Mason walked into the bedroom of our brownstone home and made his way to me. I was wondering where you might have gone. He leaned down and brushed his lips against mine then rested his hand on my belly. I can’t wait until our baby is here.
She’s already being a handful. Even though I wasn’t that far along in my pregnancy, I could feel faint little kicks. Shifter babies were stronger than human ones and we could feel the kicks earlier.
She, huh? His emerald eyes shone with love.
Yeah, I think it’s going to be a baby girl. I hoped he wouldn’t be disappointed if that was the case.
Even better. With his free hand, he cupped my face with his palm. I hope she looks just like you.
I love you. I stood on my tiptoes and kissed his lips. Sometimes, I couldn’t believe how lucky I was.
“Ew.” Ella shook her head as she entered the room. “I figured with Mom and Dad being only a few minutes away, you wouldn't be doing …” she waved her hands in our direction, “that. Tommy said they’re pulling into the garage.”
Now that Dehlia was healthy and James had taken care of his pack, we made arrangements for them to visit here at our home in the city. “Come on, let’s go.”
We were planning to tell his parents we were expecting. Even though everyone here already knew, his parents didn’t. That night, after all the fighting, was so busy; they hadn’t noticed the extra heartbeat within me. However, now it was a lot stronger and undeniable. “Let’s go.”
Mason took my hand within his, and we walked into the living room as Tommy and Mona and Ella’s parents headed up the stairs.
Louis walked over to Ella and wrapped his arm around her waist. All four of us were waiting for them to enter.
After everything had happened, not only did King Adelmo redeem himself, but so had Louis. He had been in a bad spot, to begin with, but everything between us had been restored.
When they entered the living room, Dehlia’s smile grew huge. As she approached our group for a hug, she suddenly stopped in her tracks.
“Go on and hug them, honey.” James laughed. “They aren’t going to bite.”
“No, do you hear that?” Dehlia’s eyes widened as she focused on my stomach. “We’re going to be grandparents.”
At that very moment, I knew we were going to be okay. No matter what else life decided to throw our way.
