“Was there something you had need of?”
“I simply desired to attend so I could give them a wedding gift, but sadly, I was unable to.” Amuliana sneered. “A mystical block I think.” Any façade of friendship dropped much like the mask she wore. Dark shadows flickered over her face, gaunt cheeks twitched. The ugly soul within the shell flickered before she masked it with care.
“If you’d like to leave your gift with me I’ll make sure they get it.” Selene held out a hand. “Oh, but I forgot, your gifts usually precede something terrible and haggard. So what evil do you wish to part with today?”
“My gifts are not to be toyed with.” Amuliana snickered. “Is this not so, Khrund? My gifts are as lavish as my affections.”
“Perhaps, both are deadly. You are not welcome within my chambers, Amuliana. I’ve no desire to share my bed with you.”
“Indeed, there is no fool’s bed to slither in, no men to seduce and manipulate here.” Selene stepped closer. Fury danced beneath her skin, the urge to slap her nemesis’ face strong. Restraining herself, Selene glanced at Khrund before focusing on Amuliana, her fingers pressed into Amuliana’s chest, her nails cutting into the flesh. “Mark my words, harlot, there will come a time when your lack of decency shall be your downfall.”
“Your petty jealously makes you rather reckless. After all, if one is in bed with those with the power, they have control. Men are easy to manage, they do their thinking with what’s between their legs rather than between the ears. Control that and you control him. A tidbit to remember, my dearest. One should always keep an eye on the prize.” Amuliana waved a hand in the air, a hurt manner about her as she turned away.
Selene spat a curse as Amuliana vanished into the night. Sharing a glance with Khrund, she couldn’t help but wonder just who would be next to fall prey to Amuliana and her lust. Barely acknowledging Khrund’s nod, Selene stalked from the room. Bede was safe for now, but who else would be destroyed before Amuliana and her cur of a lover were contained forever?
