Cold Blooded Lover Page 23

by Eliza Lentzski

Out of everyone in our unit, Pensacola and I alone had survived that desert purgatory. He’d lost his legs to war, and I’d left behind a little piece of my soul. But there had to have been a purpose in that. God has a plan. Blessings in disguise. Everything happens for a reason. They were tired, trite sayings, but in our case they’d turned out to be true. Pensacola had his wife, Claire, and their new baby boy, Miller. They had needed for him to survive that desert. And I was here for a reason, too.

I thought back to Stanley’s pep talk. Jane Doe had a name now. Tracey Green’s family and friends had gotten closure, even though they may not have deserved it. Maybe Stanley had been right; we could make a difference, one unsolved case at a time.
