When I hold out my hand in offering, her smile stretches ear to ear. This wasn’t the first song we danced to, but it is our song. It’s dirty; it’s filthy, and it is a perfect display of Harlow’s don’t give a shit attitude. Since her personality is one of the things I love most about her, this song is the prime choice for our first dance as husband and wife.
“Everyone is staring at us,” Harlow whispers into my ear when I pull her close to my body.
Her acting skills have improved dramatically the past two years. If I had seen the cheeky glint in her eyes, I would have believed she was worried about the occasional slit glances directed at us.
Most of our guests are family and friends, but there are a handful of the ones every business capitalist has to invite to maintain amicable working relationships. Mine are members of the Attwood Electric board. Harlow’s is the homeless man on the corner who sells Rolexes for twenty dollars a pop. They all have a place in our lives, so it is only fair they join us as we unify as one.
Slanting my head to the side, I arch my brow. “They’re going to watch no matter what we do, so how about we give them a real show?”
The defiant glint in Harlow’s eyes explodes before she nods her head.
“Words, Harlow. I need your words.”
She glances up at me, the admiration in her eyes enough to knock any man on his ass. “Yes, Cormack. Always yes.”
The beautiful giggles she releases when I twirl her around the ballroom steals the land from beneath my feet.
I blame her for everything.
The stars.
The moon.
My unbelievable happiness.
It is all her fault.
