The Futility Wars Page 21

by Magnus Thollander

People were yelling orders and sending soldiers scurrying around reinforcing the lifts and staircases. "Son of a bitch, those fuckers got in from the dock how did they bypass the lock!? There were no power spike or signal that the dock was breached!" the commander yelled. The technicians had their heads down, they knew the enemy did not come from the dock since they were monitoring the power across the entire station and that was impossible to conceal or hack. Christine got in right at time, and she stood at attention at the door "Good, you are here come in" the commander motioned.

She stepped up to the table and took a seat nodding at her fellow officers and commanders. "Everyone that is not a officer or above leave the room." the commander motioned. Everyone slowly shuffled outside and the door closed.

"We are losing control and the explosion came from the inside, we believe the dock was a distraction, and they are inside the station mixed in with the soldiers and crew." the officers looked at each other in shock "Sir, that's not possible everyone had been vett-"

"Enough, it's the only way, Our allies are monitoring the outside, and they would fire upon the station if there were any attempt to dock with the station, it's a warning signal that had been in since day one. And the south would not engage the northern battleships in orbit without reason. That we can count on." the commander said.

Christine was pale while listening to the conversation "We gonna have to make a statement to the invaders, bring the hostages to main area and announced to all the soldiers if the invaders do not surrender we will kill all the hostages." the commander said.

Christine stood up "Sir, please! We are soldiers not barbarians. We should not kill the civilians just to intimidate the enemy! We fight for Humanity!" she exclaimed. The other officers waited for the commanders reply. They saw him shake his head.

"The water supply is damaged and the waste plant is no longer working, we gonna have to put a lot of crew working to clean out and empty the waste constantly or else it overflows and stink up the entire station, not to mention the bacteria, and we have no additional supply of elixir to keep us all in tip-top shape. We have to make the invaders surrender, or we kill the civilians, they gonna starve to death before us anyway. We go to have to start rationing soon." the commander said with a heavy heart.

Christine could not believe what she heard and the other officers agreed, they should not resort to barbarism because they were afraid, they should rather surrender than killing innocent civilians. The commander disagreed and the plan was set, bring the hostages to the reception area and broadcast and radio everyone that they will kill the hostages in a hour if they did not surrender. The officers got to work and Christine was assigned to warehouse duty. She shook her head and walked to her assignment. She did not want to see those thousands of civilians die to scare the enemy into surrendering, this was not the way the north fought.

We fought with valor and to protect humans, She did not want to be a part of this and if she survives she would file a complaint and a war crime report about it. She walked into the warehouse and saw several soldiers carry a bunch of crates out into the lift "Hold it! Where are you taking that crate!" she yelled at the soldiers. They froze and replied "Commander Erickson, mam. He had requested half the food to go to the G-Section in case of enemy attack. We have to keep the supp-" "Enough, you will return all the crates or you will be arrested for treason! Return all the crates now!" she yelled, the soldiers were conflicted and ignored her. She pulled her weapon and aimed at the soldier.

"Soldiers, Arrest these traitors!" the men looked at her and commander Erickson stepped out from the warehouse "Delay that order, These men are authorized by me, The food need to split to secure the food supply in case of sabotage." he said. Christine took up her radio, and she saw the frown upon the faces of the commander, she radioed in the situation to the main commander, and she had to wait a moment. And then she got reply "This operation is authorized by me, tell the commander to move 70% of the storage to the G-Section and the command center evenly." She agreed and told the soldiers to split it up evenly with the command center. The soldiers got to work and after two hours she was left with enough food for a week. She bit her lips.

Oleg watched on the camera and chuckled while holding a beer, He told the young man Jennifer had brought to bring him a beer, and he shivered and got him the beer, Jessica smiled at the obedience of her latest little pet. Neon rolled her eyes and told the young man to bring her also a beer."You are going to own me a lot of money Oleg if your girl does not deliver, She did not tell anyone and that brings the odds to about one in ten that she will set of the explosion, There is no way she's going to do it" Neon said.

Oleg just chuckled and looked at the young man "There are always backup plans if she does not, If anyone wants to go out there and create some havoc in the meantime, fine by me. I'm happy right here watching." he said. Oleg loved to watch his play, and he would always award his actors. He went to the armory and put on his weapons and armor, and he stepped into the lift. He was gonna guide her to his side, He heard about the "hostage" situation, and he put the lift to the hidden entrance in main lobby, he climbed up the ventilation and watched.

There were thousands of malnourished and weakened people in the group in middle surrounded by soldiers, the commander yelled out that there were 40 minutes left or else!. The soldiers were on their guard, and looked at the starved and lifeless civilians. He noticed a few females had that look that they had been used by the soldiers, He smiled and walked back toward the entrance to the ventilation shaft, he pulled out a hook from a compartment in his armor, and he hooked himself to a giant beam, he slowly crawled back into position and looked out over the crowd. He saw the commander yell that it was now 15 minutes remaining, he pulled out his sniper rifle and took aim. He pulled the trigger and then commanders head plopped to the ground, he quickly chained fired into the nearby officers and then activated his pulley, and he got dragged backwards toward the entrance to the ventilation shaft, he saw several plasma shot strike the wall, and he was happy that he left while he could. He unhooked himself when he got pulled outside and then got into the lift and return to the craft.

S-4XN-001 Read the battle reports and saw the footage from his strike team in Sol, he was disappointed at their lack of tact and respect for human life. But he had to experiment to see the real humans in the galaxy, and he was correct they are chaos personified. Give the pirates a second chance and even a well fulfilled life at Paradies, and they still want to set out to cause chaos in the galaxy. He figured some of them would display a change of attitude or moral integrity. He never asked them to do these things, he wanted the situation solved, and they had volunteered when he had asked. Was it poor judgement to supply their drug and alcohol addictions and habits, probably but humans needed to take care of themselves, if they were bad people and did not change then that means they always will be.

There were no correct answers to humans, or warriors for that matter. He had chuckled at the naivety in humans to believe everything they were told by a superior or a friend. The south was as brainwashed as the north, except he used the most dangerous thing in existence the truth. He would never lie to them he would let them lie to themselves, Just like all his experiments on the first human settlers in the Paradise system, he would give them a battleship, and they would take up the role as guardians. He had enough data to now know, they were bad apples and there were good apples. He had monitored the station and the situation, and he found a few competent people, but he would not go out of his way to save them. Humans were countless in the galaxy, someone would be equal or better to them and if not someone would learn to fill that role. Simple as that, Now that he was seriously angry at the north and their games of deception half of Seylas station in Sol was now in full mutiny from the "war refugees" and he would simply blow them all up or poison the internal atmosphere if Seyla had not interjected that she would solve this problem.

She said that human problems were her speciality, and s
he had approached this with a spoon full of sugar instead of a fist full of fire. He saw no gains, and he would not care, It was her problem now, and he would not care. He had bigger situation to handle and that was the full control of his now planned 500.000 system empire. He had doubled it to 40.000,and it increased by the day, but he was not ready to defend it against the counter-attack that would come and soon. He knew the Norths was occupied for at least a hundred years attacking the west, but he felt the rumble of the east and central. The rebels had too easily bypassed the wealthy central systems and the east was not on their radar. He had a bad rap among the other sectors no matter what even when they published the ceremony on Paradise. The warriors of the galaxy had an improved perception of him and most of them were grateful in front of him, but behind his back they threw curses and plotted his destruction. He almost wanted to end this generation of warriors and hope the next are more friendly toward him, but he figured the more warlike they were the better help against the futility they would be in the future.

Seeder had left this galaxy, and he knew from the aliens that they also had portal technology. He would simply use his massive "base" to channel a portal around the hull of his ship to jump to the nearest alien connecting portal, He had learned a trick from the alien which he immediately was able to replicate. He had now pushed beyond the aliens in what little they were ahead, He guesses they never even seen the B-Element which he now had mastered. He was the undisputed master of technology and warfare, and he knew the Dre'n'ja was not his opponent anymore. He was more calculating that the Ortha which defended currently against the futility in a nearby galaxy was the true threat, They had some serious psychic powers that were unmatched by anyone else in the alien convoy. They were a mass of meat, squished together in a metal suit that reached the size of 5 meters. They terrified him, and he could never understand them, but he knew they were quite peaceful according to the alien database. They had no warriors at all, and they basically fought themselves with their massive numbers, They were highly populated and their empire had existed for a million years before the futility and the alien convoy arrived.

He could not phantom their size which was in the trillions of aliens, and according to the latest data before Seeder left, they were going to lose pretty much everyone. They threw themselves into a massive fleet battle, and they were losing millions by the hour, They were not going to hold for as long as he liked which is why he took a massive risk in increasing his territory while the vultures watched, he knew the north attacked the west for something of value, but he was not sure of what. The resources was useless to compete with him, no matter how many ships they had. He got on to the goal ahead expand and then expand some more. His fleet was massive and his mineral income was unbelievable, he still had billions of ships worth of scrap from his latest haul in the wars that bothered him.

Yui smashed her hand on the console extremely hard in frustration at the rebels attacking Sol constantly, she had opened up the ports freely in peace and in return they had brought war. She had wanted to send the Vanguard inside to clean them up, but there were too many people that belong to the rebels, and she did not want the guilt of killing innocents on her conscious. Seyla had tackled this with various strategies she did not like, first she would bribe or coax them to surrender in return of asylum, and the other was she would just simply send in the Vanguard kill the rebels and sort out the rest, Yui felt sick watching the casualties from the enemy and her own people, she saw millions dead and several more wounded. She wanted to find a better way and the answers was there was none, either she would starve them out and block the return craft, but she tried that, and she had broken out into a skirmish in sol that saw several billions of ship from the north, central and east get shot down while now a massive southern fleet was intimidating everyone in the system.

She was lost about the situation and her sister said she would solve it no matter what, and that scared her.She paced around the idea of going under the "warrior" procedure, but she fought against it, she had noticed the shift in her sisters mood and attention to the minor things, Yui liked the personal touch to solving a problem and seeing the happy faces of the migrants landing on Paradise was all she ever wanted in life, Her trading days was mostly done with now tasked with the refugees and the migrants in the space stations, She hated the "enforcers" that fought in guerrilla wars on their own stations that had been occupied by the enemy, the latest numbers showed that over 800 stations in the central sector alone was occupied by a "rebel" force, Everyone pretty much knew it was the Norths soldiers fighting, even the extremely bias central news had agreed that the rebels were too many to be a coincidence, the west was holding back the invasion for now and the east and central plotted and planned an attack probably to break the stalemate, She just assumed whomever paid them the most. She let out a big sigh and signed the document on her video screen, The Vanguard was allowed to leave the paradise sector and wage war on the rebels in the south that had only taken a measly 20 stations from her and most of them were extremely close to the central area.

Ricardo was woken up from his stupor by a alarm he never heard before, He was the commander in charge of this station, and he looked the computer and it was an emergency summon, he saw the combat code of a image with a fist, he scratched his head and walked toward the command station not bothering taking a shower. "Sir!" the soldiers salute when he sat down on the high-chair. "Sit rep, people" he said between yawning. "Sir, a manager has activated the Red-Fist command, we... double-checked the data and it's encoded just for high-commanders only." said the minor officer, Ricardo raised his eyebrow and put his finger on the scanner and a data packet was broadcast to his eyes on, it was beamed directly onto his retina to keep the information hidden from anyone else in the room.

"RED-FIST ORDER HAS BEEN ACTIVATED:VANGUARD ARE NOW TO ENGAGE AT WAR WITH ALL KNOWN HUMANOID AND ALIEN ENEMIES WITHIN THE REGION ATTACHED TO THE DATAPACKET. YOU ARE HEREBY IN FULL CONTROL OF THE WARFRONT AND YOU WILL NOT BE PROSECUTED OR PUNISHED FOR ANY NEGLIGENCE, LOSS OF LIFE OR OTHER CRIMINAL ACTIVITY TO ANY ENEMY FORCE. YOU ARE FREE TO ENGAGE ANY TARGET OF YOUR CHOOSING THAT HAVE BEEN DECLARED AS ENEMY. GOOD LUCK, COMMANDER"

Ricardo checked the datapacket, and he was stunned at the area, it was the entire galaxy. He had the freedom to now engage any enemy target in any part of the galaxy, and he had pretty much full authority and resources too boot, He saw that he had a fresh battleship fleet of 25 billion ships, 50 million carriers, and about 500 billion worth of fighters ready to go. He summoned all the commanders to an emergency meeting on Paradise III, the main military planet in the system. A few hours later all the Vanguard commanders had rushed to the planet, most of them were already stationed there since it was now officially the home to any military person ells family. The ship transfers around system was pretty much instant and always available as long as you went to the space elevator. Ricardo walked with Redmond toward the meeting hall, everyone was ready and waiting for him to step forward, He walked in and saw a lot of new faces of promoted Commanders that now handle the massive 50 billion human fleet, most of it was drone operated and about only 500 million soldiers was enlisted.

Ricardo could control five battleships with his pure human senses and Redmond was the main fleet operator he could control the entire fleet with his warrior senses if he could, but he was not as good as the pure warriors that had been doing it for years. He could not shift the energy shields and energy levels constantly like they could, but he was competent enough to match any fleet equal to its size due to the massive technology advantage. Richards main ship was a titan specially made for one thing only, survive. It was probably the safest place in the galaxy.

"Soldiers, Friends. We have been given free rein to engage any enemy in the entire galaxy. And the question is are we ready?" Ricardo said while sweeping his eyes across the room. "This is the greatest undertaking we have every done, and this is it. This is not a battle against the futility or a warriors drones. But against human li
ves that have occupied close to a 1000 stations across the galaxy, We have free rein of how to conduct the war. We could go in disarm the enemy, or we could just simply blow up the stations. I want this to be a war of heart and minds, i want us to go in salvage the situation. We gonna lose a lot more people, and we gonna see friends and family die in a pointless war mostly, I as the high-commander in charge of the main fleet. I ask all of you, do we risk the lives of our soldiers to take back the stations or do we just simply smoke them out no matter the consequences?" he said with a heavy heart.

The room was quiet and after a moment several officers stood up "Never shy away from a fight! Let's teach these northern rats how to wage a true war!" The room cheered and Ricardo lightly smiled, he quickly pulled up his plan that he and Redmond had gone through before the start, Operation Slow and Steady, half the human would fleet would occupy all northern stations in the Central sector and the few in the south, They would then engage any cargo ship docking to the stations or trying to supply them, and after they had complete lock down of all the stations they would go in. HARD, they would broadcast a surrender and if they did not accept they would go in and break them. This was war, there were no second chances in war.

The fleet got to work, and they split up into ten different fleets, five would go directly to the top of the central sector and quickly siege the northern trading stations they would clean them out completely and then continue this cycle constantly until the war was officially over, one fleet would engage the twenty rebel stations in the south and rest would take the central ones.
