The Futility Wars Page 25

by Magnus Thollander

The people on the ships watched in fear when they saw all the battleships and titans divert away from them and joined up with the enemy fleet, they just hoped he would keep his end of the bargain, they looked at the console and saw several tiny ships detach from the titan and approached their colonization ships. A military officer straightened his jacket and went down to the dock to greet the "invaders", he stood on the dock and watched what looked like giant steel boxes land on his dock, he was terrified when he saw the box starting to unfold and several hundreds of shells dropped of from the side while the center straightened out to become a 15-meter tall MEC. "We-we surrender!" he yelped.

"BRING ALL HUMANS TO THE BIGGEST AREA, I WILL CHECK THEIR DATA AND ANYONE THAT HAS ANY CONNECTION TO THE GATHERING WILL BE KILLED, THAT WAS THE DEAL, PLEASE KEEP CALM." the shell said, the officer nodded and broadcast that everyone should gather in the warehouse, it had been filled with food at one time but 20 years of travel had emptied it out since they had shared among the population and the fleet, Everyone slowly shuffled inside and was terrified he coaxed and calmed the people down, he warned that anyone not down in the warehouse would be killed and after 30 minutes everyone was gathered in the warehouse. S-4XN-001 blocked all the exits and he told them.

"LINE UP IN TEN ROWS, THEN APPROACH THE DOOR SLOWLY YOU WILL BE CHECKED IF YOU ARE A WARRIOR, IF YOU ARE ONE YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO LEAVE. THIS WAS THE DEAL. PLEASE ORDERLY AND CALMLY." everyone slowly shuffled toward the doors and the check was close to instantaneous, a few warriors was "caught" they pleaded and tried to argue that they only had the procedure done for their job as managers, He escorted those warriors off the ship and the rest was given free pass, they had to chart their own way he would not bring these people back the easy way.

The several thousands of warriors he brought back was double-checked and promptly 99% of them was executed, ten warriors was worth keeping since they just had the procedure recently done, no point in punishing them for doing it long after they left the northern sector, besides most of them was below the age of 20 he told them they could be warriors or returned to being fully human with the removal of the device connected to their cortex, none of them wanted to return to being human and pleaded they could have 10 shells and a few drones and use his portal to return their people to the north. He promptly rejected their need for portal acces, but he gave them 10 shells and then set his fleet to bring the salvage with him, no point in wasting 10 billion worth of ships.

He transferred all his water, food and elixirs that he had as "emergency" supplies on all his ships to them and then promptly teleport ed back to his sector. He had more battles to wage before the year was over.

Oleg sat on the sofa in his apartment when he got an order sent to his office he had to report with all Enforcers and agents to the hidden base only known as the "Hyena", It was a legendary rumor among the human agents of various organizations and warriors alike, a giant structure in middle of nowhere filled to the brim with all sorts of magical technology that could monitor anyone and anything, Oleg scoffed at the rumors he knew most warriors were immune to monitoring since they just simply used their own com networks, but he knew they could not hide everything mistakes were made by human managers or simply a blunder by putting a one instead of a two, His boss had control of every communication in the paradise and garden system and the other warriors knew it and never told anyone, when the "council" needed to talk to their warrior masters they left the system to make sure.

It was a open secret, and he liked that, kept people on their toes. He put his shoes on and walked out the door to his brand-new vehicle, looked like an ancient sports car but flew like a spaceship. He set course for the "employees" only area and docked his car into one of the parking garages in the side of the building, He put his palm on a reader and the door opened to a tiny human sized portal, he waited for a connection and saw a room appear inside the portal he stepped inside and was greeted by a manager that told him he should report to room twelve, he stepped into the elevators and pushed the button and got off inside a giant conference room, he sat down on one of the seats and put his feet on the side and took a nap until everyone gathered.

"Oleg, seems you are here to you piece of #!#&" Oleg opened his eyes wide and threw himself to the floor and dodged the stun bolt that flew into the chair, he pulled out his stun blaster and fired back and hit her in the chest. "Enough!" a man roared he was already sitting down when both of them came in.

Oleg shuffled back to his seat and smiled "Christine haven't seen you in a while, how's life?" Christine pulled herself up to the table and injected herself with a anti-stun serum that all operatives had on their person. "You are lucky that i hesitate for a second and did not have my real weapon on me, you deserve to die you pirate piece of shit." she said with clear anger in her voice, how could she not be angry the way Oleg had killed all her former comrades and treated her like an animal.

Oleg just shrugged his shoulder and Christine heard footsteps shuffling in behind her, she sat down as far away from him as she could and waited.

"Good, all Enforcers and Agents are here. Good news and bad news people, Good news is you all get to go outside and work your magic, Bad news is the boss wants this done as soon as possible, and it's grizzly business." He looked across the room watching the team leader's reaction.

"Alright, I have a kill list of five million people and it needs to be done as soon as possible, we have locations of all of them and it's a mess, we want it done as quickly as possible before they get spooked. We have already thinned the list by at least fifty million with people living in the garden system but the others are in the galaxy at large at least they are smart enough to know they would be killed for crossing the boss"

Christine stood up from her chair "Are you telling me, we have killed 50 million people in the garden system and nobody knows? How is this possible?" Zhang just chuckled "We have a immigration office for a reason, most of the people on the list was killed trying to check in, obviously most of their families know something happen to them, so we had to pay a few bribes so to speak. Nothing major." Oleg shuffled through the list and whistled.

"These are some high level players in the galaxy, Pretty much every corporation that operates on earth is on the list and that's gonna be a problem, Earth is a true neutral zone after the north war nobody can set foot and murder anyone there without massive retaliation." Zhang scoffed.

"I have orders from above and the order is ignored the rules, the purge must be done before the years end, several politicians and leaders on Earth are on the payroll in this regard. No explosions or damage to the infrastructure, Earth will swoop up all their carcasses and in return you will be able to leave alive." Christine thought over why now and why these people, she could not make heads or tails of the situation, one person was a corporate executive another was a waitress at a restaurant.

There were no rhyme or reason in her head she spoke up "Who takes what?" Zhang looked across the room "There are hundreds of meetings similar to this ongoing at this moment with all agent teams in the galaxy, This is this rooms objective. You all have to split up and assign targets to your team, I want these five million people dead within twelve months or there is going to be a problem, The boss is launching a massive all-out war against all the warriors that have plotted against him at the same time. This is a unified purge of the galaxy and with the death of these people we can finally look behind us and not see a dagger anymore. This is end-game people, the last strike to win a war that has been going on since the birth of the warriors. Now get on it, Tracking data on all the targets are available on channel 40, also all the targets are currently on earth and when we land the planet will be in full lock down. Your ships leave in two hours." Zhang said while leaving the room.

Christine looked around the room in shock at the bluntness, A galactic war when things just finally stabilized for humanity? She connected herself to her warrior senses to connect the dots, and she processed for a full minute bef
ore she exclaimed. The warriors and the human council in the garden made sense, there were at least a billion warriors in the galaxy why were there only 100 on the council? Because they were the vetted ones, they were the ones that could be trusted and would not be implicated in the purge, everything fell into place with warriors joining up into these 100 "factions", she felt stupid for not seeing it, most warriors had some sort of link to these 100 main warriors and this was it, the vetting process had already been made, and she got the list in her head, 200 million warriors in the galaxy was about to be killed if her numbers were right, she assumed that most of these warriors were not connected and just did her own thing, But it would be a massive galactic war spanning all sides, and she guessed the peace that followed would be that everyone was united again in these factions against the futility she could not comprehend, that was too far in the future, and she knew the massive number of titans and battleship in the garden system was unassailable by any faction in the galaxy no matter how much they tried, but the futility she did not know if they were truly infinite then they would obviously breach the most well fortified system with sheer numbers until they just simply clogged up the guns.

She rose from her seat and connected to her enforcer team, They were gonna do this by the book and no other casualties or torture, That was her answer to the evil she witnessed by Oleg that attacked her old comrades in the station she was stranded on.

"Breaking news, a battle broke out in the Sol system and the nearby systems, a unidentified fleet entered the system and killed several warriors that were gathered for a meeting of some sort, we have confirmed reports that it was their main ship, so they are permanently dead. Hold- We got confirmed reports that several unidentified fleets have entered every sector and killed several thousands of warriors, We have no identification on the attacker or why they are being attacked experts suggest its S-4XN-001 the founder and owner of the garden system, we have been trying to contact him for a statement."

Karl looked at the massive fleet ravage his brothers system while he stood motionless on the command bridge of his cargo ship, he had sent requests for surrender, and he was being ignored which was good since himself and his crew was outsiders but the tears in his eyes when he saw the beam of light strike the colony on the planet where his brother had hidden his warrior "brain", he knew his brother was permanently dead, and he did not even know why he felt like lashing out and ramming the enemy, but he had other people to take care off, he could not throw his life away for nothing. He saw his brothers ships slave into the army and swept away in a second in a giant bubble that pulsed from the main behemoth of a ship.

He shook his head and felt the warm palm of his wife on his shoulder "Let's go home" she said, Karl motioned the crew to set course for the nearest portal to the garden system. He stared at the planet that was now cracking after the massive blast that hit it and felt his lips tremble. People were rushing in fear when the fleet arrived at the hidden lab in middle of nowhere when they saw the giant mechanized army hunt down and shoot what seemed targets at random, Jennifer fell to the ground and heard the mechanical clinking of the nightmare that killed her co-worker behind her she looked in fear when she saw a light beam scan her face and then suddenly walked past her, she sat up against the wall, and she saw several robots pass by her firing into rooms and hearing the cries of help, She shook, and she saw her friend Rosetta slowly peaking her head out her room, and she saw a shell walk out the room, she stood up and ran into the room.

"What's going on!?" she yelled while throwing herself into Rose arms, "There is some wrong with the experiment on the lower level, the drones just activated themselves remotely and started to kill everyone on that floor and then the fleet of ships arrived outside, we are trapped in here, and we have to wait until the machines are done, whatever they want to do."

Rose said with a shaking voice, A robot opened the door and scanned both of them before moving along, they both shook in fear every time that happend, and they heard the gunfire finally go into a lull, and they heard a voice on the radio that the robots are now "dead" and the enemy fleet has evacuated, everyone alive was going to gather in the cafeteria, and they slowly shuffled up there avoiding the blood and guts on the floor, Jennifer puked twice but Rose struggled to keep her dinner inside, they got up to the cafeteria and it was clean thank god. They saw 20 people.

"Seems this is everyone left, A shuttle has been prepared and everyone from now on officially fired from the INR Corporation. The entire management staff on the station is dead and most of the scientist, Everyone that had access to the lower floors are dead and the station is set to self-destruct in 12 hours, so let's get our stuff and get out." a security officer said. Everyone slowly shuffled down to the shuttle leaving their possessions behind, they just wanted to get off this station no matter what.

Seyla watched the reports, and she felt this was not the way to solve the problem of warriors and corporations not falling in line, she would rather have time break them down and change their ways when they knew their goals of conquest was unattainable, but it seems he was of other mind, Seyla was now officially the main representative of the south since he said that he will step down and focus on research, building and the futility problem, Seyla tried to change his mind and the only thing she got was the full acess to several fleets of state-of-the-art battleships and titans, she was now the official master of the paradise system and the garden system, She could still call him for help if anything "crazy" happened, but he would keep the lights running for her so to speak. She had her hands full of the paradise system, but she did not turn down the control of the garden system either.

There was a competent unity of the 100 factions behind the council, and she was finally let in on the plan, kill the traitorous cowardly warriors that had no plan on fighting the futility and just mining for their own selfish goals, and then keep the ones that wanted to fight the futility, now the galaxy was going to open up to more new warriors that can take up the torch to fight the futility. A purge was planned in the future as well, and they would slowly pull the "keepers" into the factions and then remove the rest. They would work toward the end of the futility or their end, there was no other option.

Seyla was shocked at the realization, and she promptly admitted she would not fight the futility and that was accepted, since she was in his faction. They needed "Cowards" too, but they needed productive ones and not the selfish ones in the frontier just boozing with their human body and not making a single effort. One billion warriors was already cleared for transfer to new bases across the galaxy after the purge in a years time, They would set course out in the "old" frontier and claim their piece and then expand like the others. Pretty much the entire north and east was going to be "dead" territory when the purge was done. If they learned anything from the abandoned structures there then fine, they needed a little boost to catch up and that was fine, The council factions now had access to portal across the entire galaxy, and there was room for everyone.

No more wars amongst each other for pointless reasons, no more tech thefts or land theft, the portals killed every argument about room for expanding and several new ones were opening every year across the galaxy, She shook her head and closed the computer screen.Oleg looked down his scope at his target he did a bright smile when he saw him leaving the building finally, he had been waiting for 4 hours for this shot, and he was not going to miss it. He lightly squeezed the trigger and a high-powered beam struck him in the head and the trash can behind him started to lightly smolder, he stood up from his position and quickly disassembled the rifle and jumped off the side of the building, his boots attached to the steel beam, and he was running vertically down to the ground and his armor kept his bearings, he landed in the alley way, and he jumped into the waiting car, he got into the backseat and the windows were fully tinted, the car set course for the hideout.

"Mission complete" he smiled, they landed in the parking garage and the when the driver put his finger on the parki
ng device and lift stopped and shuffled them down into a roadway, they followed the road for about ten minutes until they finally arrived at the shelter, Oleg stepped outside and the car returned where they came, he shrugged his shoulder and opened the door. He looked around for the nearest bar and walked up to the counter "Two beers" he said while the manager poured him two big glasses of beer then turned around and continued refilling the fridges in the back, He was almost disgusted that the bar did not have a proper printer but this was Earth, a lot harder to get new stuff here this was the "rustic" place so to speak, and importing highly advanced beverage machines might raise a red flag for a unimportant hideout such as this.

At least his room did not smell like old sock like his last mission on earth, they had really regressed according to him or it was too hard to get anything done with the 100 nations on Earth, His house probably would probably be worth billions if it was built on earth, He chuckled "How about you and me have a good time and i can take you to paradise after?" he said to the bartender, she turned around and frowned and got back to work. He laughed even harder and downed a beer. "Agents" he scoffed.

Yui was busy constantly handling the trade agreements between planets and corporations in the garden system, she was in full control of all the trading stations in the system, and she was swamped with requests, she had 8 billion managers working in the system fulfilling the needs of the close to a trillion people in the system, The population boom was insane and the average family had five children, seems that was the primary function of humans when all their needs was met and the future looked bright. Squeeze out as many people as you can and let the managers solve the job issue, mining was pretty much the only available job in the system and it could be operated from anywhere with the use of simulation cabin and the countless drones across the systems going on autopilot until a human took over, Yui thought it was simple work and probably redundant but it was the only thing that had close to a unlimited quota of workers, unemployment was pretty much 0% if everyone wanted a job, but most people held out with their savings for manager jobs or simply doing their own transporting, scavenging and mining. Yui knew there were countless abandoned stations in the galaxy now that pretty much every human in the galaxy was centered around two systems, Sol and the Garden system, She would not go out there to scavenge peoples leftovers she was quite rich herself although personally trading was not her thing anymore, she now handled the contracts between the planets, warriors and corporations in the system. She was the final say in imports and exports from the planets, if they broke any law or was any problem she would block them.
