"Why?" Bailey asked.
"Because sometimes there are people who are so sure they have the right to commit murder, that there isn't anything else you can do. She was Hell bent on killing you, and now she's just Hell bent." I shrugged. "You're safe. That's what matters."
Bailey took my hands, and smiled. The world brightened, at once.
"You wanna know a secret?" Bailey asked.
"Sure." I nodded.
She pulled me into a kiss. "I never wanted a hero. I only wanted the woman who wanted to do the right thing." She closed her eyes, and rested her forehead on mine.
"Must be a lucky girl, your girlfriend." I laughed.
"I'm definitely the lucky one." She chuckled. "What do you think about Azura LeBlanc?"
"I don't know." I replied, folding in my wings. "But I have a sneaking feeling Bailey Noir sounds way more badass."
"Damn straight, it does."
"There's nothing straight about it."
The Fae Noir
I'm sure you've read stories about fairy godmothers before. I'm sure you thought they sounded wondrous and magical, and amazing, and you wished that one would come and solve all your problems.
Well, maybe you shouldn't. Maybe that's the moral of this story. There are several, and I'll try to break them down for those of you who only know how to hurt people.
Nobody ever stops to consider who your fairy godmother is. Who they REALLY are, at their deepest core.
We all have hopes, dreams, like you. We can be as good, or as wicked. I wish I could say that in a world where fairy tales are real, good, and evil were so simply defined.
Maybe you don't need us.
Maybe we're the ones who need you.
Not just to believe, but to teach us what's worth fighting for.
Or, maybe that's what you need to learn.
Maybe that's the secret. The world needs more people fighting for what is right, and good, but there are plenty of heroes out there.
Maybe they look like you. Maybe they look like that nice lady giving that homeless man a dollar, or that brave young woman who stands up to bullies who want to pick on her friend. Maybe, it's someone who looks like the people willing to risk their lives to stand between hate, and bigotry, and defend those nobody else wants to defend. Maybe they look like people who refuse to stand down, when large corporations demand your planet's future so that they make a profit.
Maybe they don't look like you.
Maybe you should think about why you don't see that person in your reflection. Maybe you think you have the right to murder someone. Not directly, no. By inciting hate against them for being different? For thinking they aren't human because they are born in another country? For loving differently than you? For needing help you think they don't deserve because they're addicts? For being born in the wrong gender?
It doesn't matter.
To me.
I'm the fairy godmother of human hate, and vile behavior.
My name is Azura Noir.
You'd better hope I'm not showing up to grant your wish anytime soon.
And if it turns out that I'm your fairy godmother?
I should probably warn you.
I'm really bad at my job.
