He looked down and saw that Roman was healing.

“Shit, the bastard is healing. I don’t understand what is going on,” Galen shouted, as he aimed his shotgun at Roman’s face. But before he could shoot, a loud growl reverberated throughout the parking lot making Galen and Gabriel stumble.

“We need to go now,” Gabriel ordered as he grabbed his twin by his jacket and made him climb into the Suburban.

Galen started the SUV and took off.

For a few seconds, there was nothing but silence.

Gabriel looked back as the casino lights faded away. It would take a while for anyone to come help the isolated business. It was strange that the parking lot was empty. Gabriel had no idea what Lucien’s powers were, he was just glad to be away from him.

“How did you know where I was?”

Galen turned to look at his brother, and Gabriel could see the concern in those hazel eyes. The one difference between them, he had dark chocolate eyes while Galen had light hazel eyes. Otherwise, they were identical in every way.

“Mom told me you were in trouble. She sounded weird on the phone. She was at Lala’s and Yoli’s place. She said she didn’t know how she got to her sister’s, but she remembered you trying to escape the clutches of some guy. She said she tried going back to work but every time she got close, she got turned around and ended up at aunties. So, she called me to come over here and check out the casino. I would have been here sooner, but I was over in the next town. It took me a few hours to drive here.”

Even though Galen had stopped talking to him after their night together, he was so overwhelmed with emotions about his mother’s wellbeing and his brother’s heart.

Gabriel started crying and the tears wouldn’t stop.

Galen touched Gabriel’s knee warmly. “I don’t know what is happening. It’s been a strange and difficult year, but I will always be your brother. I’m driving to grandpa’s cabin, and then we can discuss whatever shit mess this is. Here, take this jacket and cover yourself up,” Galen suggested to Gabriel as he took off his leather jacket.

Gabriel took the jacket and covered himself. It smelled like Galen. It gave him comfort not having to smell Lucien.

His brother smiled warmly at him. He dared not give himself too much hope, but as the minutes ticked by and then became hours, hope started blooming in his heart.
