At first his words didn’t register, and I blinked at him as they sank in. As often as you like.
‘As often as I like?’ I whispered, not allowing myself to believe what he was saying.
He nodded.
‘Yes. Just make a portal, and go and see them. But you can’t bring them here,’ he added, more sternly.
‘You’re serious? I can see them whenever I want?’ My heart was pounding. ‘How?’ I scrabbled to my feet, tripping over the sheets in my pajamas. Oceanus shook his head but he was smiling.
‘Feel your power, think about the ocean. Then picture your father. Imagine a door in front of you, leading to him.’
I squeezed my eyes shut and did exactly as he told me, my dads face filling my mind. Please, please, please, please, please, let this work, I prayed. I opened my eyes and gasped as a swirling purple void shimmered in front of me.
‘They’re through there?’ I asked, looking at Oceanus. Gold flashed behind him, and I saw Nix fluttering towards me.
‘You’re not going world traveling without me,’ he grumbled in my mind. ‘You’ll probably get stuck there.’
‘Nice to see you too!’ I laughed at him, excitement flooding my body. I was going to see my dad and Mandy!
‘Humpf.’
Oceanus laughed, a big belly laugh.
‘That’s the most affectionate I’ve ever heard that grumpy old bird!’ he said cheerfully and Nix squawked irritably. ‘He must really like you,’ Oceanus said, and winked at me. ‘Goodbye, Pandora. And thank you, for waking me up.’ With a flash of white light, the god was gone.
Nix landed on my shoulder and without hesitation I stepped through the portal.
My house looked the same as it always had, and my hands shook as I walked around to our back yard, pushing open the little wooden fence and stepping up to the kitchen door. I could hear the radio on inside. I took a deep breath, almost dizzy with excitement, and pushed it open.
There was my dad, sitting at the kitchen table, his head in his hands, Mandy sitting next to him and spooning cereal into her mouth.
‘Dad?’ I whispered, my voice cracking instantly. His head snapped up and happiness exploded through me as my eyes met his.
‘Dora!’ he shouted, leaping up so fast his chair crashed to the ground behind him.
‘Dora!’ squealed Mandy, and then the two of them were there, crushing me in their embrace, and I was sobbing and laughing at the same time.
I was home.

Secret Epilogue
‘Dora, look!’ Icarus’s face was alive with excitement as he sat down next me on our usual couch in the library, knocking the little table with his left wing.
‘Woah, easy there,’ exclaimed Tak as the dice he’d just thrown went skidding across the floor.
‘But this is important, look!’ Zali and Thom shuffled closer and we all peered at a piece of paper Icarus was holding out.
‘It’s just a load of jumbled words,’ shrugged Arketa, turning back to the dice game. ‘It’s your turn Dora.’ But I looked at Icarus, my heart skipping a beat. It wasn’t a load of jumbled words to me, which could only mean…
‘Titan language,’ I breathed.
‘Yup. I think Oceanus left it for me.’
‘What does it say?’ asked Zali excitedly.
‘It says that he thinks it’s about time Prometheus rejoined the world of Olympus.’
