The Hidden Revelations: First Light Page 20

by Koriana Coles

I bolted upright and looked around in disbelief. These dreams were getting way out of hand. They were so vivid and believable I wasnt sure what was apart of the dream and what wasnt.

I heard a knocking at the window, and I started shaking my head with wide eyes. I closed my eyes tight and covered my ears while curling into a ball under my blanket.

I was dreaming again, wasnt I?

“It's just a dream,” I kept saying to myself, over and over.

Something touched my shoulder through the blanket and I screamed for about one half of a second before the blanket was pulled off of me and a hand clamped my mouth shut. My eyes flew open and I started struggling to break their hold, until I heard their voice.

“Layla, it's okay. It's me; Sam,” he said.

My heart missed a beat and I stopped struggling against his hold until he released me when he was sure I wouldnt scream.

I sat up and threw my arms around him instantly. “Sam,” I sighed into his chest.

Him being away from me never did his scent or feel justice, even though he was only gone for not even three days.

I felt him wrap his warm arms around me once again and it felt better than usual. I never wanted him to let go.

Please let me stay like this, I thought to myself.

“Hey there,” he said, chuckling. “What was all that about?” he asked in his soft voice.

“I was having a bad dream. I missed you,” I answered.

I was so glad he was back, feeling his familiar warmth, hearing the purity of his voice.

“I'm here now,” he whispered into my hair.

He started stroking my back and I wound myself into him closer.

“When did you get back?” I asked, sighing in content.

“Just about two minutes ago. I told you I would come for you,” he said, kissing my neck.

The feel of it was enough to make me incoherent and I struggled to concentrate on what I was going to say.

“How, ah… how did you get in?” I stuttered out.

“Your window,” he murmured against my cheek.

A chill ran down my spine and it was hard to concentrate, especially when he was kissing me.

“You know thats breaking and entering, I could have you charged,” I said jokingly.

“I'd like to see that,” he whispered against my ear playfully.

His nose glided down the side of my neck and I leaned my head back slightly to give him better access. “Where are the others now?” I asked, almost completely sidetracked.

He now had his lips to my collarbone and his nose was skimming across the skin there, he came to a stop and pressed his lips to the hollow of my throat. “They are all next door sleeping I suppose, it took us nearly a day of non-stop driving to get back. We drove in shifts and are all very exhausted,” he informed me while the tip of his nose made its way up my throat and to the side of my face again. “You know you can ask me to stop.”

My brain was only saying one thing; uhhhh... I was completely incoherent now and could only concentrate on one thing; him. I stopped him alright, and pulled his face back to look at me.

  “I'd be lying,” I breathed.

His beautiful eyes stared back at mine and then he leaned forward slowly and kissed me. I could feel this was our reunion and I had missed him so much my lips were urgent, it felt like if he left me again it would kill me with worry. My hands had knotted in his hair and his hands were holding my face, it surprised me when a soft moan sounded from the back of my throat which made him push his lips against mine harder, making the intensity between us flare as his hands slipped into my hair. Again he had to pull away so we could breathe and when he did he smiled his breathtaking smile. I smiled back and my breathing was just as ragged as his. We both sat there on my bed, looking at each other. I ran my fingers over his face, re-memorizing it, the angle of his cheekbones, his perfect nose, his cream coloured skin, his perfect full lips, his short messy brown hair, and last of all, his amazingly light green eyes. They were the most significant feature of his face, his eyes were impossibly light, nearly transparent but still green. There was no one like him. He was unique.

“I know I love you, and it's not a mistake... I rarely make those anymore,” he murmured, looking deep into my eyes.

I smiled. “I like you too.” I said jokingly.

He looked at me cynically with a smile.

I laughed. “I'm joking, I'm joking. I know I love you, I love who I am with you, and I love being a person again.”

He pulled me forward and I kissed his lips softly, soaking in the pleasure it brought me.

“What are you going to do now?”

He looked past me for a minute like he was thinking of something, then he suddenly looked back at me and smiled slightly. “Do you want to go somewhere?”

“Ah… okay, why?” I said, confused because it was late at night or early in the morning.

“It eliminates temptation,” he answered, grinning because he was talking about being in my bedroom.

Where could he possibly want to go at this time though?

“Come on.” He pulled both of us up and started heading towards the window for some reason, it was then I realised we were using the window and stopped walking.

  “The window?” I squeaked out.

“It's faster,” he said with a grin.

He threw my jacket at me and started walking again. He realised I hadnt moved and he came over to me and took my hands in his.

“Would I ever let anything hurt you?” he asked quietly while trying to maintain my gaze.

I didn't look at him and he pulled my chin up with one hand so I had to look at him, his face was prompting. He bent his head down and looked at me persuasively.

“No,” I answered, loosing my argument as soon as my eyes locked with his.

“Come on then,” he said, gently tugging on my hand.

I let him lead me to the window, and while I was putting my shoes on, he started climbing out onto the ledge. I walked over to the ledge once I had my shoes on and looked down. It looked very far to the ground and it wasn't that I was afraid of the height, but it's the falling that worried me.

“It will be fine,” he reassured me.

My throat felt thick and I couldn't speak at all, I couldn't believe I was doing this, but I trusted him.

“May I?” he asked, gesturing to my hands.

I nodded. He wrapped my arms around his neck and held me, amazingly tight to him as we sat on the ledge of the window.

  “Hold onto me,” he warned.

I squeezed my eyes shut as tight as I could and realised why he was holding onto me, so I gripped to him as tight as I could. He took a deep breath then he let us drop out off the window ledge, and suddenly we were falling down the side of my two-story house.

I could feel the cold wind whipping through my hair and the air whistling in my ears as we fell, then in a matter of seconds it all stopped and we landed on the ground with the softest thud.

“It's an adrenaline rush. Dont you think?” he asked, breathing vastly.

I couldnt answer, my eyes were somehow wide open and I was stunned into silence as I kept my head close to his.

  “Lays?” he asked, concerned now.

I tried to clear my throat. “Yeah,” I whispered out as he pulled back to look at me.

He chuckled as he looked from our feet to my eyes and back. I hadn't noticed that my feet had actually found their way to the tops of his.

“Are you okay?” he asked, trying not to laugh at my staggered form as his hands on my arms steadied me.

I nodded and shook my head clear of the falling feeling.

“Alright, let's go then,” he said with a lopsided grin, winding his arms around my waist and already starting to walk with me on his shoe tops.

“Where are we going?” I asked, wrapping my arms around his neck tighter.

“To our peak,” he said excitedly, his eyes bright.

I smiled in response and he walked down
my driveway and towards his huge front gates to his property, me riding on the tops of his shoes as I stared into his eyes with a small smile.

  “Okay, are you ready?”

I nodded and then Sam removed his hands away from my eyes so I could see.

“What do you think?” Sam asked excitedly.

I looked at him then turned back to look at the night sky. The cliff we were standing on was the same one where he first told me he loved me. It looked just as beautiful as it did that afternoon, except the sky was fully black with a few stars here and there. It would have been harder to see up here except the moon was abnormally close and acting as the light. It's reflection was huge in the dark river water below. It was mind blowing. I could have never imagined in my life that I would see something so extraordinary, besides him.

“It's perfect,” I said, exultant. “How is the moon so close?”

He smiled widely and his teeth looked ultra white in the light. “I pulled it closer. This is my favourite time to be here and I just wanted to share it with you,” he said with a shrug. “Though I do have to push it back later or I'm sure it could cause some sort of natural disaster.”

I smiled and put my hand to the side of his face. In a way he was very romantic and it was admirable.

“You didn't have to do that for me,” I said softly. “You're probably exhausted.”

He wrapped his arms around my waist and pulled me closer, but he still kept his eyes on my face always to see if what he was doing was okay by me. “You are worth it, and don't think I forgot about Valentines day,” he said, smiling adorably.

I shrugged. “I didn't really remember myself,” I said, playing with a lose strand of cotton on his shoulder.

He slipped one hand away from my waist and grabbed something out of his jacket pocket. He held his hand up to show me a small black rose face pendant.

“Oh… Sam you didn't have to get me anything,” I said embarrassed.

He smiled again. “I've had this for a while actually so its no big deal. Me, my sisters and brother always get antique jewellery passed down to us from relatives. Though I am sorry it is a bit late.”

He clipped it onto my necklace Adam had given me.

I picked it up to get a better look and now next to the oval pendant hung a black rose face.

  “It's warm,” I said, surprised.

“That is because it's made of bluestone. I thought it was good symbolization of your beauty,” he said, stroking the side of my face.

“Thank you,” I said, flattered. “But I didn't get you anything.”

“Yes, you did,” he answered, matter-of-factly.

Just as I was about to ask him what the hell he was talking about he leaned his face so close to mine I could taste his breath on my tongue.

“May I kiss you?” he asked, so sweetly, so entrancing, I just nodded, all choked up.

He pressed his lips to mine and strained me closer to his body, stealing away my breath. I pulled myself closer to him and linked my hands behind the back of his neck. I was genuinely happy for this moment of my life and I forgot all of my worries temporarily. In my world it was just Sam and I, no problems about being killed or who had an ability and who didnt. It was a natural and normal world.

When the kiss eased he leant his head in to whisper in my ear.

“I love my gift,” he said, breathing hard and heavily.

  I laughed, it sounded breathless.

“So do you really like it?” he asked after a minute.

I turned towards the moon and I felt him wrap his arms around my waist from behind me and rest his chin on my shoulder, pressing his lips to my neck slowly. I put my hands on top of his and leaned my head back against his.

“Of course I do,” I murmured.

“Good. You know its sort of like my First Light, because the moon is the source of light here,” he said, I could hear a smile in his voice as he kissed my neck again.

  “It's extraordinary.”

Sam took me home after dawn so we got to watch the sun rise. It really was amazing and beautiful. Any photographer would have killed for a picture of it.

I was surprised that Sam managed to scale back up the side of my house and into my bedroom, but I guess that with his ability it would be easy, except for the whole exhaustion part which would be a set back.

I now lay on my bed tucked in tightly while Sam sat in my desk chair. It was very cold in the morning and I was still shivering inside the heated house.

“What happened?” I asked, looking over at him.

I knew he didn't want to tell me, but I had to know.

I watched him take a deep breath before he answered. “We tracked them to Brisbane City, they were staying in a motel so we hid out there, waiting for them to separate. We just needed one of them to leave so we could ambush the others and talk with them easier... then we noticed one of them was missing and nobody knew where he was. That's when I called you. I was worried that he might have come and taken you already, but Elane could see you were still in Forestville and eventually he returned.”

“And?” I prompted, looking at his face.

He was looking at the posters on my wall when he spoke in just a whisper.

“We finally saw one of them leave and we sent James to follow them, we had the perfect opening. We were ready to ambush the rest of them that afternoon, then they all of a sudden disappeared and James lost the member he was tracking. It was a disaster and the plan had fallen to pieces. I was so... so afraid that they had come for you, so we bailed and rushed back to town. I didn't want to wait until morning to see if you were okay, I had to see you, feel you in my arms, safe with me,” he said, it sounded like he was confessing to a great weakness.

I got up with my blanket wrapped around me keeping me snug and sat down in his lap. He looked down on me curiously. I needed him to know, to know everything that happened between Sylar and me.

“I love you Sam, so much so that I think I need to tell you something.” I looked down and took a deep breath, I was planning to carry on but I couldnt, I was suffocating trying to speak.

“Tell me what?” he murmured, pulling my face up to look at him.

“I… last Tuesday something happened,” I said, looking into his face carefully. Taking in all his expressions.

I had to explain this slowly or I wasnt going to get this out.

  “Go on,” he prompted gently.

“I went to gym and got hurt, and I was taken to the office and…” I trailed off.

The feeling was making me want to hurl and I felt dirty again. It was bad enough the first time. Every time I thought about it I would go and sit in the shower scrubbing myself down for hours until my skin was as red as a lobster.

“Hey, you can tell me anything remember,” he said softly, pulling my hair away from my face while I realised he was quoting my words.

I took a deep breath. “Sam, the boy who took me up to the office… kissed me,” I mumbled. “It felt wrong and dirty,” I started to sob out so I buried my face in the blanket.

“Shh, it's okay.” I saw his eyes change and I felt him tense slightly. “Is there anything else you want to tell me?” he asked, there was something behind his calmness, but I couldnt quite identify it.

I moved my head away from the blanket to speak clearly. “Then on Wednesday he told me to stay away from you… that you and your family were Dark and were going to kill me,” I whispered in a rush.

I felt him rub my back because I started sniffling. “It's okay. Who was this boy, do you remember his name?” he asked, gently yet angrily.

“Sylar Benson,” I mumbled out, keeping my eyes on my hand.

I felt him instantly stiffen and become tense and my heart rate stepped up.

  “Sam, what's wrong?”

“Lays, his name isnt Sylar Benson, its Sylar Erickson, and he is not a normal kid. He is apart of the Warrigal coven,” Sam hissed, automatically tightening his arms around me.

  “What??” My ey
es widened in fear and I froze. I was that close to him, he had kissed me. Why didn't he take me then?

  I started trembling.

“It's okay, I've got you and I am never letting you out of my sight,” he said strongly.

He hugged me tighter to him.

“Sam, I have to meet with them on Monday,” I whispered.

“How do you know that?” he asked, surprised.

“I got a call last night from someone named Tommy.”

“Their leader,” he said, for sure.

“He wants me to meet with them at-”

“At school,” he finished. “I know, they called us too. They said we had to have you with us or no deal. I was planning to tell you tomorrow because I didnt want to see you worry, but seeing as you already know it is your decision.”

It was silent for a moment while I thought. I wanted to help, to at least try to get rid of them, so really I had no choice.

“I'll go. To help you guys,” I said.

I decided I wasn't going anywhere Sam wouldn't be, I never wanted to have to separate from him in something so life threatening. I think it would damage me beyond repair.

“We shall talk it over later, everyone will be asleep for a while after the last three days we just had. Speaking of which, you should get some sleep too,” he said quietly in my ear.

“Are you leaving?” I asked sadly.

He stroked my face. “I will leave when you fall asleep, I wouldnt want your father to catch me in your room now would I? He would have some crude awakening,” he said, smiling teasingly.

“Okay, I'll come and see you when I wake up.”

“Good, I will be waiting,” he said, pleased. “Now please, get some rest. You are my only amator. My combinare, I will always be with you,” he crooned gently, wrapping both his arms around me tightly as I was in my thick blanket.

“What does that mean?” I asked sleepily.

“My only lover. My pair,” he whispered in my ear.

With that I relaxed into his hold and fell into a dreamless sleep.

  ****

I woke up and felt stiff, like I hadnt moved once when I was sleeping. I looked around my room and I was the only person here, maybe Sams returning was just part of my dream.

When the last 24hrs flooded back into my head I straight away looked down at my necklace. The warm black rose face still hung there, which proves I wasnt dreaming.
