The Hidden Revelations: First Light Page 22

I gasped. “I did not,” I shouted, my voice harsh.

I barely recognized myself, I wasn't too sure of my actions either.

Sam stiffened and I heard a loud defying crack from one of the trees. I looked at his face, his eyes were black and I felt his hand squeeze mine slightly harder.

“Sam, don't fall for it. He's just trying to get in your head,” I said, only loud enough for us to hear.

“I know, but it is working,” he struggled to whisper back, never taking his eyes off Sylar.

“Please Sam... I love you,” I said gently.

That made Sam stop altogether and look at me with his dark eyes. “I love you too... Im sorry.”

I started to panic, he was going to go for Sylar and I knew it.

“Aww, cry me a river,” Sylar said, careless.

Tommy laughed. “Young love,” he said sarcastically.

“Someone's got himself an amator,” Toby teased with a grin.

But the two females stayed quiet, they knew what it was like to love, I could tell by the look in their eyes.

“Hey Sam, if you don't believe me... then you're an idiot,” Sylar said, laughing deviously.

That was it, breaking point for Sam. Thousands of trees snapped so loudly I had to cover my ears, and so did everyone else.

“Sam!” I shouted. “Stop!” I tugged on his hand but there was no response, he was using his other hand to fling trees at Sylar.

A massive tree went flying towards Sylar but then as soon as it was in the air it burst into flames and shrivelled into dust.

Sam let go of my hand and started walking slowly over towards Sylar, flinging things at him as quick as a flash. They never made it though, they always shrivelled into ash from Thoras doing.

We were all covering our ears from the deafening noises, watching in shock at what was happening around us. I felt so helpless, I wanted to do something to help.

I tried to stop Sam by grabbing his shoulder. He turned and his hand flew to my throat, but before he reached it I saw realisation over come his face and his hand stopped.

“Get down!” he yelled through the sudden loud wind and deafening noises, not seeming himself.

I listened and got down on the ground, not knowing what else to do. He turned and started walking towards Sylar again.

Thousands of trees and debris was flying over our heads at the speed of lightening, and it suddenly looked like a hurricane was about to happen.

“Help him!” I yelled, looking over at James, Hunter and Fredric.

We were all on the ground now. I guess they heeded Sams warning also.

They all looked up and James disappeared instantly, I saw him appear behind Sam which meant he was able to dodge the trees easily. He tried to pull him back but Sam kept flinging little things at him too, which lucky for James, he was fast enough to dodge. Until Tommy took his glasses off and James turned and instantly stopped moving. He was blinded, and if he tried to run he could hit a tree, so he stood still and dropped to the ground for cover.

“James!” I screamed over the noise. “Hunter!” I yelled and looked over at him.

His eyes were pitch black and he was protecting Sam and James already from the worse attacks aimed at them.

  “Elane, do something!”

She nodded and outstretched her hand towards Sam. I saw vines rise up from underneath the ground and wrap up and around his legs so he was stuck and couldnt budge. He was only a few feet away from Sylar now and in grave danger. Sylar was beckoning for Sam to come closer and I started shaking my head. This couldnt be happening.

Blue light was projecting from Elanes hands and her eyes were black as well, she was trying with all her might to keep her brother back. But the vines couldnt hold and they ripped. Sam kept moving forward. There was no time, I had to act now before it was too late.

I shoved away from the ground and took off running towards Sam, the wind was wildly blowing my hair all around me.

“Lays, get back here!” they all yelled.

I heard them all get up off the ground too but I kept running towards Sam; he was face to face with Sylar and was only a head taller than him.

I knew I wasn't going to make it but I had to try, they were a few yards away from me still so I pushed myself to run faster.

I saw Sam grab Sylar by his jacket with both hands, then Sylar reach his hand to Sams neck and Sam dropped, he didnt even make an attempt to stop him. The winds suddenly stopped along with the noises and everything went calm, like we had passed into the eye of the hurricane.

“NO!” I screamed, it echoed off the trees.

Sylar bent down, his back to us, and pulled something long and shiny out of his pocket.

  It was a dagger.

He raised it high and I could clearly see it as he plunged it into Sams chest, making sure he stabbed it in with all of his might.

I ran right up to Sylar and he turned and cut my face with the dagger as soon as I grabbed his arm. I knew I was too late and I was angry, more than that, I was upset. I didnt even feel the slice on my face or the warm ooze of blood.

He tackled me to the ground and I think I landed on a rock or something when I fell because I felt a crack in my ribs, but I had no time to worry. He forced the dagger towards my chest, his other arm around my throat, but I was resisting against his strength and trying to keep the dagger away from my chest as best as I could as he hovered above me. I was losing my grip on him and the dagger was getting closer towards my chest, luckily I had thrown him off aim so he wouldnt get my heart and kill me too. I felt the metal blade pierce the skin of my shoulder slowly and agonizingly. I screamed in horrific agony as he pushed it through my shoulder. It hurt like hell, like the pressure of the dagger inside of me was driving me insane, pushing my insides together.

I grabbed Sylars throat as hard as I could and he froze, his grip on the dagger and my throat slackened. He started making a weird noise, like he was suffocating. I felt different too, like I was acquiring power through my hands. It was flowing through me strongly, the warm and tickling sensation was running through my body so fast it felt overwhelming. I felt my vision and senses become sharper and clearer. What was happening to me?

Sylar fell to the ground and I sat up. I saw his face and it was pale and covered in veins, like he had been drained of his life. I was heartless to what I had just done, yet I wanted more power from him, it was like a constant thirst. I stopped myself, I had to resist the profound urge because Sam was more important.

I crawled over to Sam and touched his face. The dagger had grazed his heart and I knew there was no chance of recovery. I gripped the handle and held my breath as I pulled the same dagger out of my shoulder slowly with gritted teeth and a groan, feeling dizzy and lightheaded as I huffed out. I finally felt the blade leave my body and I threw it on the ground.

I had to hope, I didn't want to lose Sam; it would kill me. I had to at least try to do something to keep him alive.

I tried to stop the mass of bleeding with my hands, blood was soaking through his clothes and mine, it was everywhere and thats when I started sobbing. The dagger definitely pierced his heart, I could feel his beat slow underneath my hands, and if by some chance he didnt die of the wound, he would die from blood loss.

I didn't care that I had been stabbed in the shoulder and that I was probably bleeding to death just like him, the difference was that I'll heal... he wont.

“Sam, it's okay. You're going to be fine,” I sobbed out, and I think he knew it was a lie to keep us both reassured.

I looked at the bright red metallic blood all over my hands and started crying. His eyes; amazingly back to light green, searched my face. He reached his hand up and cupped the side of my face while his thumb stroked my cheek soothingly.

“Layla, I'm sorry,” he said, the bright red blood gurgling up from his mouth as he tried to cough.

I could hear a fight break out between the rest of them but I couldnt help them, Sam was dying. This was too fa
miliar, I felt like I had seen it all before.

“Don't leave me, you promised,” I cried out, wiping the blood off his face frantically.

“I will never truly leave you, I will always be with you in here,” he said softly, with so much difficulty I had already started crying.

As he spoke he reached his hand up to point at my chest, leaving a blood smear on my shirt. He closed his eyes and his hand dropped lifelessly to the ground.

“No, without you I don't know who I am,” I whimpered out, shaking my head. “I don't know,” I repeated, letting my head rest against his blood covered chest.

I anxiously looked around for help, shaking violently as I gripped his shirt in my hands. Elane was fighting Christein with some sort of blue shining knife, Jane was switching and confusing people while beating them fiercely with a thick stick she had found, and James, Fredric and Hunter were trying to contain the rest of them using their abilities and fighting techniques.

“Guys, I need your help!” I yelled out, crying.

“Layla we cannot, you will have to try to do something by yourself,” Jane yelled back.

  “I can't,” I sobbed out, lying over Sams limp body. “I can't.”

I just wanted him back, this was agony and I couldnt do anything to help. I had never felt this much pain in my life, not even when my mum had died or when Adam had left. It was almost impossible that I could feel this way about someone, but I did, and I think it was because I loved him so much. I had never loved someone like this before.

“Hurry Lays, you don't have long. We believe in you, do something!” Fredric yelled.

I straightened up, wiped away the tears and tried to wipe away the blood on my face. I could do this, I had to; he was my life now. I had to, I repeated in my head.

I ripped the hole in his shirt bigger so I could fully see the wound on his smooth warm chest. I placed my hands over it and closed my eyes, ignoring the blood this time. I focused on the energy inside my body and I could feel the pull of something flowing inside of me. It was like a built up compression of energy. I pushed it out of my body, through my hands, and into Sam, not knowing if this was really working. It could've all be in my head for all I knew.

I started breathing in huffs and I opened my eyes. There was a bright blue light flowing from my hands and it was radiating between my hands and Sams chest. I looked at Sams face and all of a sudden his body heated up under my hands. I had to keep going, so I pushed out as much energy as possible because amazingly, it was working.

“Please,” I whispered through gritted teeth. “Please.” This had to work, I needed it to work. Sam was my last chance of happiness and normalcy... I know I loved him, with all my heart, I know that without a doubt.

Then I heard the sound that brought me the most relief I had ever felt; his sudden intake of breath. I let my hands fall from his now moving unscathed chest and searched for his hand, and found it.

“Sam,” I whispered in his ear.

My forehead was on the ground now and my legs were bent underneath me.

I felt dizzy and exhausted, my vision was fuzzy but I could see he was alive again, and I hoped the energy I somehow gave him would be enough to sustain him. God I can't believe that worked, something has to be wrong with me if I could do something like that.

Then, with one last breath, I blacked out, falling against his chest softly so my face was resting against his neck. The last thing I heard was people yelling my name, but I couldn't concentrate on that, Sams breathing was the most important sound to me, nothing else mattered.

  11. Training

I opened my eyes in a daze and I felt sore and stiff. I looked around me and there were beeping monitors next to me in the brightly lit room with clear tubes that led to my arms and nose.

“Ugh,” I groaned uncomfortably, feeling where the tube to my nose was.

It was like someone had two fingers up my nose. I felt sore to my bones as if someone had beaten me for hours on end, and my mouth was that dry my throat felt itchy.

I saw flowers were next to my bed so I must have been in the Forestville hospital, or a hospital at least.

I relaxed back and heard I wasn't alone in the room, there was another beeping sound coming from next to me. I turned my head painfully and Sam was lying in the bed next to mine, he was so close that I could reach out and touch him, but not without difficulty.

  “Sam,” I mumbled to myself.

His heart rate was steady but his eyes were closed and his body looked limp.

My head clicked. I remembered that he had died and I had brought him back to life, unless I was dreaming that up. But if he was lying in the bed next to mine he must be fine. There were tubes attached to him from every direction and I could see he had no shirt on, revealing his power mark which I hoped the nurses and doctors took for a birthmark or tattoo at least.

I thought for a while, just about what everybody had said, what had happened. I remembered the excruciating pain from when I knew I was too late and Sam had been killed. It hurt that much to remember I flinched from the feeling. I didnt have the slightest idea of how long I had been in here, but I would ask someone eventually. What I didn't understand though was how I saved Sam. How did I do it?

Just then, Hunter and Jane walked into the room slowly and quietly. They saw I was awake and their faces brightened up.

“You're awake,” Jane said, exceptionally happy.

I smiled and nodded, flinching again from the movement.

“How are you feeling?” Hunter asked quietly, sitting on the end of my bed and resting his hand on my leg lightly.

  “Like crap,” I croaked.

My throat was really annoying me now, I could feel that I needed something to drink but I couldn't find the energy to ask.

“Here,” Jane said, handing me a cup of water while Hunter was still laughing.

“Thanks,” I said relieved, taking the drink from her and sculling it.

  She was a life saver.

“You both gave us a bit of a scare,” Jane said quietly.

I sighed. “It was my fault, if only I had gotten up earlier.”

“Don't be foolish Lays, it was not anybodys fault except for Sams extremely short temper,” Jane said, smiling over at her unconscious brother.

  “Yes, but-”

“Lays stop. Nothings your fault, Sam will even tell you that himself. So stop beating yourself up about it,” Hunter interrupted.

He had a good point but I was still feeling responsible.

“Fine,” I grumbled, crossing my arms slowly and painfully.

I knew I was out numbered in this discussion.

It was quiet for a moment while they gave me time to cool off but I knew I needed information.

“Where are the others?” I asked calmer.

I had only just noticed that Elane, Fredric and James were missing.

“They stepped out for lunch but theyll be up here soon,” Hunter reassured me. “Especially since one of you two are awake.”

“How long have I been out?”

“Only two days,” Jane answered indifferently.

I smiled. “So what have you told people?” I asked, remembering that they wouldnt have told everybody we were in a fight between Supernatural people.

“We told the doctors you and Sam were in a brutal fight and were attacked. We of course found you,” Hunter said, grinning widely. “Oh and we told your dad that too.”

“Dad?” I asked in disbelief, raising my eyebrow.

“Yeah, he rushed straight down here when he heard you were attacked,” Hunter said. “He's been sleeping at the hospital too, waiting for you to wake up.”

I blinked twice in shock. “Really, where is he now?”

“We convinced him to go and eat something, he didn't want to but he was going to starve if he didn't,” Jane said with a laugh.

“At least I know hes being taken care of.”

We sat there for a while just talking. We had a few laughs before Ela
ne, James, Fredric and dad finally walked in.

  “Layla,” dad said relieved.

He came over to my bed and hugged me gently. I was a bit confused but I slightly placed my arms around him as much as I could. I couldn't remember the last time I had hugged him but it was a long time ago, and this hug actually felt good except for the physical pain I felt.

He pulled back and smiled his old smile. He looked like he could use a good nights rest too. “Don't give me a heart attack like that again, I don't want to lose you.” He held my face carefully between his two big rough hands and gazed at me in relief.

“Don't worry dad. You won't, I promise,” I said awkwardly.

“Thanks Lays. I love you kid,” he said.

I could see he was really deeply relieved.

“Love you too dad,” I said, placing my hand on his and smiling into his withered blue eyes.

It was quiet for a short moment until Fredric spoke up.

“Well Lays, we gotta head off,” he said, walking over to me and kissing my cheek softly.

“O-okay. I guess I'll see you guys soon,” I said, hugging them all goodbye as best as I could.

“Yes, I'm sure you will be. Just get better soon,” Elane said, hugging me as gently as she could.

“Yeah, okay,” I said, rolling my eyes.

“It's good to see you're finally awake though,” Fredric said with a small smile as he walked out of the room.

I watched Jane and Elane go and kiss Sam; their brothers forehead, and James pat his scruffy head.

“Get well soon brother,” I heard James whisper to him.

I hoped he would get well soon too, just so I could hear he was okay.

It was just me, dad and Sam in the small room now that the others went home, and honestly I wasnt really comfortable with that.

“So… I see you have made some good friends,” dad said conversationally, looking at me with his old blue eyes.

“Uh huh, they're all good people,” I said, smiling.

  “And those boys...”

“Are all friends,” I finished for him, knowing what he was suggesting.

“Oh,” he looked surprised by this, probably expecting me to be dating one of them.
