Trapped Page 19

by Jessica Lynch

“Wait a sec… what are you doing?”

He pulls on one glove, then the next. “What I vowed I would. Goodbye, Elle.”

  “No, Saxon, don’t—”

Too late. Before I can try to dodge him, the Seelie guard lunges forward and gets me dead in the chest. I scream as he shoves me, my arms wheeling as I go flying backward.

  He’s strong. Really strong.

And I honestly never thought he’d actually touch me.

As I stumble past the imaginary line that marks the fairy circle, I realize that the nix’s prophetic comment from all those weeks ago—

“The Seelie are good? If I have to be bid on, I want one of them?”

  “I didn’t say that.”

—has come back to bite me in the ass again.

Saxon might be a Blessed One, he might be working with Rys, but that doesn’t make him a good guy.

  Damn it.

I guess my luck is still pretty shitty after all.

  A Note From Jessica

  Hey! Thanks for reading!

That’s it for the first part of Elle and Rys’s story. Just like the books in the Touched by the Fae series, this trilogy is three continuous parts that create the whole story. So the next book—Escaped—will pick up right at the point where Trapped ends. Because, for these two, getting out of Siúcra is only the beginning…

I hope you enjoyed this story. Want to find out what happens next? Book two and three are available for pre-order now, with Escaped coming in August! Keep clicking to learn more.

And, if you haven’t already checked out Tricked, I’ve already released a prequel novella that show how Elle found her way to Faerie in the first place before ending up at Lord Veron’s palace.

  xoxo,

  Jessica

Escaped (Imprisoned by the Fae #2)

I didn't mean to cross over into Faerie. It was an accident. And now... now I'm on the run.

I thought my situation couldn't get any worse. After a vindictive Seelie noble has me thrown in jail for refusing to be his pet, I figured life behind iron bars was as bad as it could get.

And then I met my cellmate.

Rys is... complicated. A former guard in the Fae Queen's court, his betrayal landed him in Siúcra with me. When it comes out that I'm actually his fated mate, his ffrindau, I can hardly believe it. I belong in the human world with my boyfriend. Rys has no intention of ever leaving our cell, with or without me.

Fate has a funny sense of humor, though. Too bad neither of us are laughing.

There's only one way to get out of Siúcra with your head still attached. You have to sacrifice something you don't think you can live without. I gave up my promise ring and everything it means.

  Rys gave up me.

Now I'm lost in Faerie—again. The Seelie who bought me at the Faerie market wants me back. The prison guards won't stop until I'm back behind bars. And Rys...before too long, it becomes clear that fate has other plans for us.

Turns out that both of our sacrifices were in vain, and now I'm in even more trouble than before.

**Escaped is the second book in an exciting new Fae series by the author of Touched by the Fae. Featuring a directionally-challenged, unlucky human heroine, the scarred Light Fae who'd rather stay in jail, and their quest to save Faerie together—well, once they break out of Siúcra, that is.

Because each story leads directly into the next until the conclusion in the third and final book, please be aware that there are cliffhangers. Elle and Rys's complete story is finished with Freed.

  Sneak peek at the prequel

It doesn’t take long before I realize that walking into that circle was a big mistake.

  Bad decision, Hel. Really bad.

  What did you do?

The world immediately went sideways in the instant that I did. It’s the only way I can explain it. One second, I was on my feet. The next, it was like I was falling. Closing my eyes seemed like a good idea and I did, cutting off the way the world around me went wavy. I pushed on, I kept going, and, when my boot hit the ground again, I steadied myself.

I steady myself a second time and realize that I’ve stepped somewhere totally different than where I was two seconds ago.

I feel the change all the way down to my bones.

This isn’t the city anymore. I don’t know how I know it, but I do.

I don’t know where I am, either. I know I moved because I felt the world shift and, as I spin around, the circle that I stepped into is gone. No fairy circle. No mushrooms. Just grass that I instinctively know is different from the blades back home.

  But… but how?

Maybe I’m imagining it. Maybe I let my imagination get the better of me.

Jesus, please let me get a signal here. I… I think I might’ve lost it. I can’t honestly have shifted from one world to the next, can I? Right now, I don’t even care if Jim wants to stand there with his arms crossed as he lectures me. I’ll call him and I’ll tell him I’m sorry and I’ll even strip my dyed hair if it means he’ll come get me and it’ll all be okay.

I need my phone. I reach into my jacket pocket. It’s hot here, a good twenty degrees warmer than the spring morning I left behind in the city; another clue that something really weird is going on. Sweat slicks the back of my neck and I roll my head, trying to wipe it on the leather collar as my shaky fingers wrap around my phone case.

It doesn’t occur to me to take my beloved jacket off. I just breathe softly through my mouth, trying not to choke on the thick air as I pull out my phone at last.

The thick air, or my sudden fear when I realize that my phone is completely dead.

But it was fully charged. I know it was. I checked.

  What the—

Trying desperately to tamp down my growing worry, I try turning it on. Nothing

  Dead.

  Oh, no.

Somehow, walking through that weird ring of mushrooms made my phone die. As if some kind of magic surge killed my device when I—

Oh, man. It worked, didn’t it? I’m in Faerie.

  I’m in Faerie.

“I take it back,” I whisper. “I didn’t mean it.”

Tricked (Imprisoned by the Fae #0.5)

I didn't mean to cross over into Faerie. It was an accident. And now... now I'm in trouble.

Have you ever had a really bad day? Like the type where you want to just pull the blanket over your head, go back to sleep, and wake up when it’s all over?

  Yeah. Me, too.

It all started with a stupid fight. Honestly, I was probably looking a reason to storm out of the apartment and get away from my boyfriend’s disappointed sighs for a few minutes. A walk in the nearest park was just what I needed.

What I didn’t need? To impulsively walk through a ring of strange-looking mushrooms only to end up in the mythical, magical world from my mother’s supposedly made-up fairy tales.

  Faerie. I’m in Faerie.

As soon as I cross over, I’m lost. The fairy circle is gone, the trees all look the same, and I don’t have any idea where I am, or how I’m going to get home.

I think I can trust the pixie.

  Nope.

Maybe the pair of dwarves who seem so kind?

Yeah. Seem is the key word there.

By the time I’m on my way to the auction block at the Faerie market, I can’t help but stew over all of the ways I’ve been tricked. This sucks.

And it only gets worse after that…

**Tricked is a prequel novella set directly before the first book in the Imprisoned by the Fae series, Trapped. It's the story of how Elle ended up in Faerie, and what led her to be thrown into the infamous prison, Siúcra.
