“Stop teasing me,” she frowned, tugging on my hair to pull my head closer to her. Our lips met, and she melted against me, her kiss fierce and passionate.
“I love you, so fucking much,” I husked out against her lips.
“I love you, too.” She stared up at me, her blue eyes shining with emotion. This woman. Did she know how much she meant to me? How I’d do anything for her?
She was my world.
Her hands gripped my ass, urging me forwards, and I entered her with one powerful thrust. She gasped, her eyes falling shut. “Luke.”
Afterwards, collapsed on my bed, relaxed and sated, I stroked her silky hair while she sent “Merry Christmas” messages to her various phone contacts.
“Best Christmas, ever.” I leaned over and pressed a kiss to her neck.
She placed her phone down and turned to me, a huge smile on her face. “It’s only just begun, but I agree. Merry Christmas, Luke. This year, you’ve made me the happiest I’ve ever been.”
“Same.” Our lips met in a slow, lazy kiss, before I pulled back with a groan. “Come on. We’d better get going. We need to get on the road in a couple of hours.”
“Okay. One more kiss, then we’ll get up.”
We eventually made it out of bed, an hour later than planned.
OLIVIA
I watched my gorgeous boyfriend as he crouched down in front of Martha’s grave, placing the flowers we’d brought with us carefully in front of the headstone. I’d stayed back to give him some privacy—I knew he wanted a moment alone.
He traced the headstone with his fingers, brushing the snow away with his gloved hand, then spoke in a low murmur, his words snatched away by the winter breeze that blew through the cemetery, making the tree branches rustle above my head.
Stepping away from the trunk of the tree I’d been leaning against, I shuffled my feet, the snow crunching underneath the soles of my boots, rubbing my hands together to stay warm while I waited for him.
He straightened up and turned back towards me, a smile on his face as our gazes connected, his bright green eyes staring into mine. So different to the man I used to know. This Luke was so much lighter, happier, and, best of all, loved me. Yeah, we still had our share of ups and downs, what couple didn’t? But he was mine, and everything we’d been through had only ended up bringing us closer together.
Reaching me, he dropped a light kiss on my forehead, then grabbed my hand, and we headed back to the warmth of his car. Once we were inside, he pulled his gloves off, shaking the snow from them, then fished his phone out of the central console.
“One more thing to do before we head to your parents’ house.”
He made the call.
“Alright!” I watched Luke’s face as it split into a huge grin.
“Mate! Liv!” Alex’s face filled the screen. “I’m on the phone,” he called to someone, turning his head away from the camera briefly. “Sorry. Brothers,” he muttered, rolling his eyes.
Luke’s phone beeped and the screen split, showing Ethan and Avery. I leaned into Luke, blowing my best friend a kiss, as everyone tried to say “hi” and “Merry Christmas” at the same time. I could hardly hear what anyone was saying, with us all trying to talk at once, but it was so good to see their faces on Christmas Day.
Once everyone had said their goodbyes, and we’d ended the call, Luke started the car, punching my mum and dad’s address into his sat nav system to take us there.
“You ready?” He glanced over at me, shifting the car into gear, his hand flexing on the gearstick.
“Yeah.” I leaned over and pressed a quick kiss to his jaw, and he smiled.
“Let’s go.”
The snow started falling again, lightly drifting through the air around us, and Luke’s fingers entwined with mine as we pulled away from the cemetery, towards the open road.
Laughing, I rolled towards Luke, the airbed in my mum and dad’s guest room so deflated by this point, that we may as well have been lying on the floor.
“This is ridiculous,” he huffed, but he had a smile on his face. “Come here.” Tugging me into his arms, he placed a kiss on top of my head. “I guess we have to accept the fact that we’re not going to get much sleep, tonight.”
“Sleep is for the weak,” I yawned, burrowing into his warmth and pressing my lips to his chest, over his heart. “Have you had a good day?”
“The best.”
“Happy Christmas, Luke.” I closed my eyes, my whole body relaxed, entwined with his.
“Happy Christmas, baby.”
