The Pizza Party

by Theo Baker

“Servants will report for duty at 7:00 a.m.”

Well, everything’s back to normal. As normal as it can be when you’re someone’s servant. Katherine didn’t have any emotional scars from her time in my classroom, and Emily is back to her usual annoying self. She is a cruel, croaky taskmaster. It helps that she can’t talk much while her throat is healing, but resourceful Emily has found a way around that.

Yes, that’s right. Whenever Emily rings her bell, I have to come running.

“Coming! Do you feel calm and supported?”

  “I need more ice cream.”

  “At once, Emily.”

  “And more Acrididae for Katherine.”

  “Ackriwhat?”

  “Bugs.”

If I don’t answer fast enough, she keeps ringing that darn bell.

  “At once, master.”

I know, I know. It’s humiliating. But I’ve been working on my superpowers. I’ve been practicing hypnosis. If I get really good at it, maybe I’ll be able to make Emily forget that I promised to eat locusts.

And if not, then, hey, at least locusts have protein. It’s got to be better than eating metal, right?

Oh, who am I kidding? You win, Emily. You win, and I lose.

  My life is a nightmare!!!!!!!!!!!
