She grinned and patted his cheek. “That is more like it.”

He sighed. “Sorry, it took me a while to figure it out. Who told you?”

“The babies.” She laughed and looked out over the expanse of Alguth, the fliers in the distance and more than just the natural wing pattern.

The Alguth had lost so many, they were more than happy to have the cyborgs curling up in the Cursed City. The sleepers were all awake and behaving like good citizens. A project had been enacted to back up the history of humanity, and Alphy was enjoying being in charge of that. The three ancients in the asteroid were working on building themselves permanent bodies so that they could interact with those around them.

Lacey was still in charge of supplies and equipment. Some of the men with weaponry wanted it removed, and others wanted to go even further down the body-mod hole. She had to keep all supplies flowing.

Windy was enjoying her life in the city, listening to the data streams of every alien race her brain could reach. Cracker and her partner were busy taking appointments for customization, working it around her pregnancy, and Stitch and Lucky were commuting back and forth to get all the inbound females into the right place at the right time.

Life was beginning again for the human cyborgs, and Lacey didn’t want to make Yurik nervous, so she didn’t tell him that they had already joined the march to bring in the next generation.

She stood and looked out at the new world that had welcomed them with open arms. The bright new world threw her past into deeper shadow. That was fine. She wanted to leave it there.

For now, she was carrying the baby of a man she wasn’t related to, and he seemed to have gotten beyond her past, not that it was ever much of an issue for him. He took her as she was.

She smiled slowly, and she laughed inwardly. Even when she was eight feet tall.

Whew. Done. Attacked Earth, killed an alien race, and started the next generation. Time for coffee.

  Thanks for reading.

PS. There is a spinoff series planned around the Furies, depicting their early days and what they became in this bright new future.
