“Maybe so.”
Two hours later we met with our stake president and I accepted the calling.
As we were leaving he asked if we were curious how they narrowed down their list for possible bishops.
We nodded.
“We look for the best women in our stake and then put their husbands on our list of possibles. That’s how you got there.”
I agreed that Heather was an amazing woman.
“And then we pray,” our stake president said. “You are the one the Lord wants to serve as the next bishop of your ward.”
I didn’t get much sleep that night. I kept hoping President Johnson would call us in the morning and say, “What were we thinking? We’ve decided to call someone else as bishop.”
But the phone call never came.
And now Heather and I are in for a grand adventure.
But it’ll be okay. You know why? Life is always good with Heather at my side.
