Destiny giggles some more. “No, you won’t be. What time is dinner?”
The thought of dinner with my family is like an ice-cold bath. “Seven on Friday. We’re to pick them up and take them to a venue of our choosing.”
“Betty’s Diner?”
Now it’s my turn to laugh. “No, it won’t be good enough for them. What about the new place that opened at the other end of town? The steakhouse.”
“Time to Steak It? Okay, it’s good.”
“How do you know?’ I ask.
“Rush likes to have long lunches on Fridays. He usually takes Nadine and me out to lunch, and we finish up early and go home. I’m sure I’ve told you.”
And she has. Rush treats her like family and is generous to the point of obscene.
“Guess I’d forgotten you’ve been there. Is Rush taking you there this Friday? You won’t want to go twice in a day. Think my old man will like it?”
“I’ll ask that we either go to Betty’s or take a drive to Pearl. As for your dad, he can’t be too picky, it’s there or the diner. How’d it go with your brother?”
I grunt. “Rather not talk about it. I’m coming home. I could use a shower, sleep, and you.”
“I’ll be here.”
I hang up and look at Tobias. “I’m going home.”
He nods. “I’m going to see Dane. It’s been one long-assed day.”

I’m sitting in my office with the door open when Izzy sticks her head in.
“Hey, handsome.”
Her words bring a smile to my face. I stand and walk toward her.
“What brings you into the Sheriff’s Office?”
Izzy kisses my cheek. “I heard the sheriff is single, so I’m here to scope him out.”
I chuckle at her. “Right. How’d you go with the old hall at the end of town?”
Izzy’s face splits into a huge grin. “We got it. He even gave us an outstanding rate for rent as it’s been vacant for so long. Carlos, it’s all happening, everything is falling into place for me. The business, the hall, you—”
“Me?”
Izzy’s face goes a lovely shade of red, and she tugs on my hands. “Yes, you.”
I pull her into my office and shut the door, pinning her against it. Izzy’s eyes are on my mouth, and I slowly lean in kissing those gorgeous lips. Her hands go to my chest as mine goes to her ass. The woman has a great ass. A moan escapes her, and my cock responds by going hard. I know I said I wanted to take this slow, but right now I could do her on my desk. It’s been such a rough week with the FBI.
Izzy’s tongue duels with mine, and I angle my head to gain better access. I move one of my hands to her breast and squeeze. Izzy rocks against me. She’s wearing a skirt and lifting it I touch her pussy and she’s wet for me. I drop to my knees, lift one of her legs and place it on my shoulder. Deftly I pull the flimsy fabric of her panties to one side and lap at her. Izzy throws her head back against the door with a loud bang. As I suck and taste, I insert a finger inside her.
Izzy clutches my head, holding me close as she rides me. I set the pace, moving first one finger in and out of her, then two all the while sucking and licking. Expertly, I suck on her clit as I thrust my fingers deep inside her and feel Izzy clamp down on them. I keep sucking until the aftershocks stop and only then do I slowly withdraw my fingers. I stand, holding her up as her legs have gone like jelly, kissing my way up her clothing-clad body until I reach her lips.
“That can’t have been any fun for you.” Her eyes are lust-filled and sparkle from her orgasm.
“Who said I’m done?”
A wicked smile works its way across her face. Izzy nods once and pushes me back and pulls her panties down, leaving them on the floor. She walks around me and leans over the desk, pulling up her skirt, so I get the most delightful view of her ass. My hands move to my belt buckle like lightning as I undo it, pull down my zipper, and release my hardened cock.
Izzy spreads her legs, pushes the stuff on my desk to one side and lies her torso over it. I grab her ass and squeeze, and she pushes against me, my cock at her entrance. Tentatively, I ease my cock inside her, feeling her body stretch to accommodate me. When I’m all the way in, I pull out, going in as slowly as before. I don’t want to hurt her. I do this a few more times, keeping myself restrained, making sure she’s ready for me.
“Carlos, I need more,” pants Izzy.
This is all the encouragement I need. I pump in and out of her, gripping her ass as I slam into her again and again. Izzy shudders, and her pussy milks me as another orgasm washes through her. With one last thrust, I let myself go. My nerve endings are on fire as I shatter inside this gorgeous woman. Right now, if she were to ask me for anything, I’d give it to her. I’m balls deep inside her, pants down around my ankles when I realize what I have done.
Our first time together is over my desk, at work, and not very romantic. I pull out of her, annoyed at myself for letting things go this far.
“Are you okay?”
“Izzy, I’m so sorry.”
“What for?” she asks as she stands and straightens her skirt.
I zip up my pants and tuck my shirt in, stalling as I search for the right words. “I wanted this to be special for you, for us.”
“Having two orgasms is pretty special.” Laughs Izzy.
I look into her eyes as she sits on my desk, legs open but skirt pulled down over her pussy.
“Come here,” she demands.
I place myself between her legs and wrap my arms around her in a bone-crushing hug.
“Carlos, it’s okay. I could have stopped you. You know I had a good time, yes?”
I inhale her scent. “Yeah, I could tell. Let me take you out to dinner tonight. We could go to that new restaurant, Time to Steak It.”
Cupping my face, Izzy kisses me. “You don’t need to do that.”
“But I want to.”
A smile crosses her face, and she nods. “I’ve been dying to try it. What time?”
“Seven?”
“Perfect. Pick me up then.”
Carlos
The parking lot for the steakhouse is packed when we pull in. Izzy is wearing a little black dress, six-inch red heels, and has curled her hair. I like her haircut shaved on one side and long on the other—it feels nice to the touch—a bit of rough with a side of soft. So much like the woman herself.
Her hand reaches out to open the car door.
“Stop.”
“Stop?”
“Yes, just wait there.” I get out and stride around my truck to her door and pull it open. Izzy’s face goes all soft, and she smiles at me.
“You didn’t have to do that.”
“You wearing that dress, those heels, and doing your hair? Yes. Yes, I did.”
I hold out my hand, and as she places one foot on the running board, I grab her around the waist and lower her to the ground. Izzy rewards me with a chaste kiss to the lips and a squeeze to my bicep.
“That’s it? Just one small kiss?”
Izzy giggles. “We’re in public, Sheriff. I don’t want to put you in any kind of compromising position.”
I raise my eyebrows and grin at her. “Anytime you want to have me in a compromising position, you just let me know.”
She giggles some more and slaps my chest. “How about we get inside before we’re in a compromising position in the parking lot.”
With her hand in mine, we walk toward the restaurant. As I open the door, Izzy puts her other hand on my chest and leans in. “I’m not wearing any underwear,” she whispers. Izzy leans back, winks, and walks inside, leaving me standing outside befuddled. It takes me a good few seconds to stop my brain from misfiring before I quickly follow her inside.
We’re seated at a table toward the back of the room, and I’m facing the front of the restaurant. It’s an old habit. I like to know who’s coming at me if anyone is coming at me at all. Being a detective in Los Angeles has made me cautious, and with a
ll the murders, it pays to be careful.
Both of us ordered steaks with the lot and a nice bottle of red wine. Izzy is eating a breadstick and looking every inch like a goddess.
“What do you think?” I ask gesturing around the room.
Izzy looks around at the interior and back at me. “I like that the place isn’t overcrowded with tables. The wooden bar is gorgeous, but I’m not sure about the dead cow head over the exit. I know I’m eating meat, but that’s a little creepy.”
I chuckle. The restaurant has wooden floors, low lighting, white walls, and is softly playing country music. And Izzy is right, there isn’t a heap of tables, so it feels intimate.
“You don’t want to see Carol over the door?”
“Carol?”
“Yeah, Carol the cow.”
“Don’t! I won’t be able to eat if it has a name.”
I laugh louder and reach across the table to grab her hand. “Right, no naming of the meat.” I take a sip of wine.
“Unless it’s your meat.”
The wine goes down the wrong way, and I’m coughing up a lung when a hand hits me solidly in the back. I look up to find Kade looming over me.
“You all right, Sheriff?”
I nod vigorously and stand. Izzy hands me a glass of water.
“T-Thanks, Kade,” I stutter as I regain my breath.
“Hey, anytime I get to hit local law enforcement is a good day,” quips Kade.
“Are you here with Destiny?” I ask as I look around the room.
“Yeah, thought you saw us come in.” Kade looks at Izzy and grins. “Guess you were distracted.”
“You could say that.”
“Hey, Kade, maybe we could join you two for a drink later?” suggests Izzy.
Kade shakes his head. “No. It’s a family thing.” He looks across the room and frowns. “I best be getting back. Good to see you both.”
Kade walks away, and I see him join Destiny at a table with two other men.
“Well, that was rude,” states Izzy.
I sit. “Why?”
“Kade’s family is Destiny and Zeke, and we’re not allowed to join?”
I grin at her. “Okay, look over your left shoulder. Whoever they are, Kade doesn’t want us joining in.”
Izzy tries to look over her shoulder casually, but when she does, Destiny waves at her, so she waves back.
“Smooth, Finemore, so smooth,” I say through unveiled laughter.
“Who are they?”
I shrug. “They look like Kade, so I’m guessing his father and maybe a brother?”
Izzy does another glance over and looks back at me nodding. “Yep, I think you’re right.”
The door to the restaurant opens and in walks Zeke and Cassia. The restaurant manager puts them at a table near us.
“Sheriff, Izzy,” greets Zeke.
“Hey, Zeke, good to see you both,” Izzy states with a grin.
“Have you been here before?” Cassia asks Izzy.
“No, our first time. You?”
“Zeke here wanted to keep tabs on Kade. Otherwise, I’m sure we’d be at home in front of the TV.”
Zeke scowls and puts his hand to Cassia’s lower back and guides her to her seat. “That’s not true. It’s just a happy coincidence.”
I raise an eyebrow at him, and Cassia laughs.
“Even the sheriff thinks you’re lying.”
I hold up my hands in surrender. “Didn’t say a thing.”
“You didn’t have to.” Izzy laughs.
Thankfully, the waiter arrives with our meals and all conversation, for the moment, stops. I like my steak bloody, but my beautiful date prefers hers well done. For a little thing, she sure can eat. I was surprised when she ordered the same as me.
“Are you going to be able to eat all that?”
“I’ve been starving myself all day. So yes, I will,” replies Izzy with a mouthful of steak and a closed smile.
“I like a woman who doesn’t starve herself.”
Izzy holds up a finger and takes a sip of wine. When she’s washed down her mouthful and can speak, she smiles at me. “Why do you think I exercise so much? I love to eat, but my ass will double in size if I don’t work it off.”
“Your ass could double in size, and you’d still be beautiful.”
“Aww, Carlos, are you trying to get lucky? ‘Cause you keep talking like that, and…”
I grin at her. “Eat your meal, you’re going to need the sustenance.”
Izzy giggles loudly, takes another sip of wine, and nods.
The door to the restaurant opens and in walks Dane, Kat, Jonas, and Addy. It can’t be a coincidence that the president and vice-president of the MC and their partners are dining here tonight. I cast a glance at Zeke who straightens in his chair.
“You know they were coming?” I ask him.
“No. But Dane knew Kade would be here tonight with his father, so he’s giving him the once over.”
I look back at the foursome. Kat Saunders looks every inch the rock star in boots, little red skirt, and midriff top. Addy is in a black knee-length dress with a slit at the front. That woman is five-foot-ten with legs that go on forever. The men are in jeans, black shirts, and are wearing their cuts. Dane must be making a statement.
I watch as Kade stands and heads over to his president. They shake hands, and I can see Dane nod toward the table Kade came from. Kade’s face clouds over, but he takes them back to his table.
Zeke and I exchange glances. Both of us, I’m sure, wanting to be closer to hear the conversations. The men at the table rise, and as expected, they fawn all over Kat. She’s always the perfect rock star and wife as she shakes hands and smiles at the men. I watch as she takes a step back and looks around the room. Her eyes lock with mine. She excuses herself from her party and steps off in our direction.
“Here I was thinking this was going to be a boring evening. But look, here’s the town’s sheriff on a date with a sexy woman and sitting near one of my favorite MC couples.”
Izzy immediately stands and embraces Kat. She’s been living at their house since she came to town.
“Kat,” exclaims Izzy as she embraces the woman. “You didn’t tell me you were coming here tonight, too.”
Kat glances over her shoulder at her husband. “That’s ‘cause I didn’t know until an hour ago. It seems Dane wanted to look over Kade’s ‘family,’” she replies, making air quotes.
“Not a fan?” I ask.
“No,” replies Zeke flatly. He rises and walks toward his president and shakes his hand.
Kat takes his seat, and we all watch as Kade awkwardly introduces everyone. Destiny has a fake smile plastered on her face, and it’s not hard to see she isn’t comfortable. The brother leaves the table and heads for the bathroom. Destiny stands, grabs Addy’s hand, and leads her toward us.
With her back toward the rest of the room, she lets the smile fall and frowns. “Can tonight be over?” Destiny asks.
“That bad?” asks Kat.
“Worse than bad. Apocalyptic. I’ve never met such fake vipers in my whole life. I’ve been sitting there for the past hour trying to figure out how Kade became Kade. Everything they say is laced with accusations, or they’re just downright rude. I’ve never before been ashamed of my past like I am with those two. The father even asked if I’d given Kade a private lap dance.” Destiny sighs. “I practically had to hold Kade back by digging my nails into his leg. I want this night to be over.”
I watch as a nerve in Kat’s temple begins to twitch, the only sign she’s upset. Being the sheriff in a small town, you have to know how to read people, and right now, I can tell she’s close to losing her temper.
“Good thing Kade knows how to keep himself under control. It seems like his father is trying to get a reaction out of him. Good for him for keeping his cool. I’d have decked the guy if he’d spoken about Izzy that way.”
Kat glances up at me and nods once, but it’s the woman across from me th
at has the most visible reaction.
“Really? You’d hit someone if they trash-talked about me?”
I smile up at her and from the look on her face, I can tell it’s been a long time since someone—anyone—has made her feel special.
“Of course, Izzy, you’re my girl.”
Kat, Destiny, and Cassia all sigh. Izzy pays all of them no attention as she cups my face and kisses me. I grab her hands and stand, my meal forgotten.
With my forehead pressed to hers, I say, “Let’s get out of here.”
Izzy smiles and nods.
“Aww, you two are the cutest,” says Kat as she stands and wraps an arm around Destiny’s waist, putting her head on Izzy’s shoulder.
I shake my head at Kat. “Night, everyone. Enjoy your evening.”
With my hand on the small of Izzy’s back, I guide her to the front of the restaurant. Dane gives me a nod as I pass him.
“Honey, why don’t you go to the car? I’ll pay and be out in a minute.”
Izzy gets up on her tiptoes and kisses my cheek, with a small smile on her face. I watch as she opens the door and steps outside.
Pulling out my credit card, I wait for them to ring up the charges.
“Was everything okay, Sheriff?”
I look back at my server. “Yes, everything was fine.”
“It’s just you didn’t finish your meal.”
Not wanting the man to think we were disappointed, I grin at him. “The meal was perfect, the restaurant is great, but I just want to get home and be alone with my girl.”
A knowing smile plasters his face, and he nods profusely while handing me my receipt. “You have a good night, Sheriff.”
I wink at him and go outside. Izzy isn’t near my truck. She has her back to me, and she’s walking backward, shaking her head. I jog down the stairs and place my arms around her. She jumps and twists in my arms, burying her head in my chest. Izzy’s body is shaking.
“Izzy, what’s wrong?”
“R-Raven.”
I hold her at arm’s length and look at her. Izzy’s eyes are wide with fear.
“I need you to go back inside. Find Dane. You got that, babe?”
