Dad's Best Friend

  "Don't worry. Your dad will come around, trust me."

  I nodded and sighed. We sat there in silence. All the while, I wondered what Knight was up to? I picked up my device and did not get a text or a call from him. I thought maybe he does not care about me?

  Knight

  Of course, I cared about her. I missed her like crazy. I pushed myself into work and ignored the way I felt about her. Hell, my sheet still smelled like her. I thought about my child. I called her father numerous times, but he ignored my call.

  The mayor told me they had found some discrepancies in my permit, and I had 30 days to correct it. I decided to head back to San Francisco. My team in the bay was relieved to have me back, including my greedy lawyer — a man I made incredibly wealthy.

  Then it got worse. News stories revealed I had gotten my best friend's daughter pregnant. How they got the information, I'd never know.

  Then again, it was a small town. Everyone talks about each other. I wouldn't be surprised if her friend or her dad revealed all. I ignored the requests to comment and made it clear. My private life is mine, and no one else's. A few weeks went by, and i couldn't take it any longer. My lawyer tried to hook me up with this girl he claimed was a supermodel, but I was not interested; instead, I desired my curvy angel Charlotte.

  My cock lurched in my pants, thinking about her. Finally, I had had enough. I decided to get back on my private jet back to Alta Vista to claim my family.

  I realized I had to fight for Charlotte.

  I love her, and no one else.

  She was mine. I didn't care what her dad had to say. I would be with her and only her! During the drive over to her place, Henry, my trusted security detail, asked, "Will you be in Alta Vista long, Boss?"

  I smiled at him and said, "as long as it takes to get my girl."

  "Excellent, sir. You know I never say this Boss, but you made the right choice with her, sir."

  I smiled and asked him what he knew about her.

  He said, "She's a great girl. Everyone in this town said nice things about her. I heard nice things about you too. They said the mayor likes you."

  "I doubt that Henry, he pulled my permit."

  "Indeed, sir, but just a favor to Ms. Charlotte's father. I can safely say he'd put it back once you and Ms. Charlotte get back together."

  I smiled and thought, wow word does get around this town now, doesn't it? I asked Henry to take me over to Charlotte's place. I knew Jack would be home from the factory, and I figured if I showed up, he'd have no choice but to see me. The minute we pulled up by his driveway, Jack walked out the door with his hands on his waist. He growled, "What are you doing here!" I turned to see my Charlotte hurrying out the door towards me, but Jack stopped her and growled, "Get back in the house, Charlotte!" She stepped back but wouldn't go back into the house. I told Jack. "I love Charlotte, Jack! I want my family! Please understand. I love her very much."

  "The only person you love is yourself, and you know it!"

  I interjected and said, "No, I love Charlotte." I turned to her and stared directly into her eyes and said, "forgive me, Charlotte. I love you, I do."

  Tears welled up in her eyes as she responded, "I love you too."

  That did it, Jack pushed forward and promised to call the police if I didn't leave his property. I said, "I will not leave without Charlotte. I understand you are mad at me, but she is the only woman I love."

  Jack scoffed and said, "you are not capable of love."

  "That's not true, Jack, and you know it."

  "No, what I know is I want you off my property in five minutes, or I am calling the cops." I sighed and said, "fine, but I'd be back. I will be back Charlotte. I will be back for you." And with that, not wanting to cause a commotion, I got back into my chauffeur-driven car and left.

  Chapter 15

  Charlotte

  The moment Knight drove off, I stood out there and confronted my dad. Mom stood close to me as I spoke.

  I said to my father, "Dad, I love him, you need to understand that, I love him with every fiber in my body, and he loves me too."

  Dad scoffed and said," He's too old for you."

  "Who cares about age, dad? You know Knight is a good guy. Plus would you want your grandchild to be without a father? Please think about it, dad."

  "I have thought about it, and the answer is no!" Dad retorted.

  Then I guess you leave me no choice. I will leave dad!"

  My father's eyes widened, he looked at me and asked, "leave? Where would you go."

  "I would be with a man that I love, daddy. I will be with Knight in San Francisco if I have to." My dad's eyes widened, he said, "you're not going to leave, are you? Mary, talk some sense into her, will ya?"

  My mother shook her head and said, "this is one fight I will not partake in, Jack. "

  Dad then turned back to me and said, "you have got to be kidding. "

  I said to him, no dad, I'm not kidding. I will leave if you decide not to forgive Knight and let me be with him. I love him; it's either him or no one, dad, and I mean it. Realizing I wasn't going to change my mind, dad said, "I guess you leave me with no choice but to say yes. "I said to my father, "

  Dad shook his head and said, "I guess I don't have any choice. I just want what's best for you, Charlotte. And I said to him, "I know what's best for me, Dad and the person who is best for me it's none other than Knight. I love him and I want to be with him forever. When I said these words my father had no choice but to agree with me. He could tell I really love Knight and that I was not just kidding around. Father then said to me, "I guess if you love him, then what can I say? You should go be with him." The tears welled up in my eyes as I turned to look at that and said, "Thank you, father, thank you. "And with that, I hurried past my parents. They shot me a look and asked, "Where are you going?"

  I turned and said, "I will be back, dad."

  And with that, I jumped into a shared ride and hurried away.

  The shared ride driver turned to me and remarked, "you seem excited?"

  I said to him, "Yes, I am."

  I thought of the things I'd say to him.

  But when I got there, he had already left.

  Dejected I looked around and burst out crying.

  That's when I heard a voice behind me say, "what are you doing here? "

  I beamed, happy to see my handsome Knight.

  He ran towards me and wrapped his strong muscle filled arms around me.

  He kissed my lips and said, "I'm glad you were here. How did you get here??"

  I told him, "it's a long story, but let's just say dad is finally agreed for us to be together."

  He looked at me for a second as though he didn't believe me, but then he said, "Are you serious?"

  I said yes, and he would love to see you."

  Knight rubbed his sexy jaw and said, "I guess that can be arranged."

  And with that, he took my hand and guided me into his Mercedes. He said, "how about now?"

  I beamed and said, "now would be a perfect time to do so."

  Knight

  I wanted to make sure everything was okay with Jack.

  I wanted his blessing.

  I needed his blessing. He's my best friend, and if I am to marry his daughter, then I have to ask for his consent to marry her.

  And that's precisely what I did.

  When I got back to his place, Jack walked out and smiled.

  His reaction let me know he accepted our relationship.

  I turned to Charlotte and said, "I don't know what you did. But whatever it is, I'm glad he agreed."

  She laughed and said, "I just told him I loved you."

  And with that, I kissed her lips again right in front of her Dad, Jack.

  He pulled us apart and said, "I think you need to wait for your wedding night. "

  Then he laughed and said, "it's just the right thing to do."

  It was apparent we did not wait.

  Her mother Mary smiled at me and said,
"I'm just glad it's you and Knight I know you'll take good care of Charlotte because that's what you do. I smiled at Charlotte. Then I looked up at Jack and said, "yes, you have my word. I will take excellent care of her. She would want for nothing."

  "Good, you better, or you would have to deal with me."

  Everyone laughed.

  I smiled at Charlotte and told her, "I would never let you go, my love, I love you forever."

  Charlotte smiled at me and said, "I love you too."

  Then I turned back to Jack and said, "On my honor, I will protect, love and cherish her all the days of my life."

  Jack nodded.

  Then he said, "well, let's celebrate, I give you my blessings."

  And I would have no one else but her. Mary smiled and said, "that's good to know."

  And with that, Jack ushered me into the house and brought out his favorite champagne while Mary dotted over Charlotte. I stole reassuring glances at Charlotte.

  She smiled back.

  We both did not know what the future held, but one thing was for certain, we vowed to make sure our love stand the test of time.

  Epilogue

  The following Christmas

  Charlotte

  I guess you can say all is well that ends well. Twin babies are A few months old, and of course, my parents, their grandparents, can't stop building over them. Yes I had twins a boy and a girl. Knight's been a great dad.

  No scratch that, he's the perfect Dad.

  I couldn't ask for anyone else but him.

  He said to me, "you make the best mom in the world. I laughed and said, "nothing compared to the best dad." And that's the moment my mom called out for some help. I looked her way, and I could see you one of the twins the boy grabbed fistfuls of my Dad's hair.

  And that's the moment Knight whispered into my ear, "I guess he's paying Jack back for what he did to me. "

  I laughed and said, "I don't think so, but it's good to know that at least he loves his grandpa. "And with that, I walked up to Dad and asked if you needed any help.

  Dad laughed and said, "no, no, no, I love my grandson playing with my hair. I couldn't have asked for anything better than this."

  And with that, I left them both standing there. Everyone was so happy. Mom carried my daughter in her arms.

  I couldn't believe how blessed I was.

  It was as though life had come full circle.

  Knight then pulled me aside and said, "Look at what's up there."

  I looked up to see Mistletoe.

  He tilted my chin and crushed his lips on mine.

  It felt like the very first time we kissed. The moment I knew I was falling for him even more than my first time.

  I belong to him.

  He belongs to me, and yes, we belong together
