An American Lady Page 29

This was a bigger gesture than she should have been willing to make. His chest ached as he saw the pain reflected in her blue eyes. It was a sacrifice that would hurt deeply but she did it for love. If he had any doubt about her feeling for him, they were wiped away with that one act.

“I don’t think that will be necessary.” Lucas told her. “I would be a fool not to let someone with so much experience be a part of every decision.”

“People will find out and they will disapprove.”

“I don’t care. I would rather my wife be happy than the rest of society.” Lucas began kissing her again. “I think my American wife has been a bad influence on me.” He felt her giggle.

“It would only be fair. After all, you did ruin me first.”

“I do think we might need a little help.” Lucas said, pushing her back against the pillows. “In case you develop more family obligations.”

“Do you think Frederick might be interested in taking on a professional role for real?” she said.

That had been exactly the idea he was going to suggest. After working beside the man for the last few days, Lucas had grown a great respect for him. With such a sharp mind and willingness to learn, he suspected Frederick could become a great asset to the company not to mention, helping them with the American side of the company when needed.

“I think he’d be perfect for it.” Lucas replied.

The two of them were lying side by side with their heads against the pillows. She was beneath the blanket and he was on top, but their bodies fit perfectly together. Lucas let her lay her head on his shoulder, while his arm wrapped around her. The sleep he got alone in his own room was brief and unsatisfying. Tonight he knew he would get the kind of sleep that brought dreams with it.

“I feel like coming here was what my parents would have wanted for me.” Sinclair whispered.

“Being married to a man like me?”

“Finding love with a man like you.”

“Then we are in agreement, because I love you too.”

He stopped her from saying anything more and kissed her.

  The Blind Duke

He lost his sight, but he hasn't lost his touch

All his life Thomas Powell, the Duke of Ashford has been beautiful and enjoyed the privileges that come with it. One bad decision leads to an accident that leaves him blind and strips him of his place in society. Desperate to gain back his status, Thomas devises a plan to win the hand of the season’s more desirable woman but finds it more difficult than he expected and forces him to find help.

Eloisa Noble has returned to London to help her beautiful cousin navigate the season in hopes of finding a husband. Memories from her own failed season years before haunt her and make her desperate to leave the city for good, but only obtaining the funds for independence will allow her that. An offer from the devilishly handsome Duke could be the answer to her problem, but she finds it difficult to keep it just business between them.

As they work towards creating a couple that Society would approve of, the two of them might discover that love doesn’t care about appearances alone. They will look past the expectations of others and find that real beauty can be a surprise.
