"Tell me tomorrow. I'm far too tired today." Zheng Ren waved his hand and rejected the professor's invitation without hesitation.

What else could the professor need to talk to him about? It was probably just to study prostate interventional embolization.

These things were not difficult for Zheng Ren who was at the grandmaster-level.

Hence, talking about these things with the professor would really feel like a waste of time.

Normally, it would have been fine. However, Zheng Ren was pretty tired at the moment.

It was a busy day but the most tiring thing for Zheng Ren was not the four TIPS surgeries and one operation where the artery catheter was not closed. Instead, it was the patient's family who was indifferent and wanted to pull the plug on the patient.

Until now, Zheng Ren could still hear the sound of the patient biting the trachea tube with her teeth when the tube was being pulled out.

Everything would be fine as long as the results were perfect.

Zheng Ren felt physically and mentally exhausted.

"Boss, I'll go to the ICU for the patient's aftercare," Su Yun said to Zheng Ren.

Zheng Ren was reassured by this since it was Su Yun, especially since this patient was a cardiothoracic surgery patient. There was nothing to worry about.

The surgery was finally over. Du Chunfang's life should have been saved, right? Zheng Ren felt a trace of joy in his exhaustion.

This was the first time in his ten years as a doctor he had indulged himself and fought for a patient.

Hopefully, there would be a perfect ending.

Chapter 506 - The Importance Of Unified Measurement

The patient was sent back, and the operating room became quiet.

Zheng Ren practically dragged his tired body along with him to change clothes. His mind was still thinking about the liver cancer patient's 64-slice CT scan with 3D-image reconstruction images.

Su Yun was right. It was convenient for him to always look for the CT room to settle these things, but Sister Zhao did not have the obligation to always help him.

However, how would he be expressing his 'interest' to Sister Zhao?

Should he pay her directly? If it was too direct, Sister Zhao would not accept it.

It was better to give her a gas card. It would be better this way. Regarding the amount of money he should put in it, 1000 yuan would not be considered either too much or too little. It was just right.

Zheng Ren made up his mind. He had practically solved the issue at hand.

He had done four more TIPS surgeries today for a total of eleven. He was still a long way from reaching his intended target.

Other than being slightly worried because he did not have the time to train for the surgery, Zheng Ren was not in a hurry to complete the Ultimate Mission of the Crown Jewel.

He was so tired. He had to sleep well tonight. Hopefully, there would be no emergency treatment necessary tonight. Zheng Ren prayed to the Night Shift God once again. He was very pious.

While changing, Zheng Ren's phone went off. It was a notification from WeChat.

[Zheng Ren, have you not eaten? What do you want to eat?]

  It was Xie Yiren.

It was not until Xie Yiren reminded him that Zheng Ren recalled he had not eaten lunch or dinner.

Zheng Ren had been busy because of Du Chunfang's matter. He did not feel hungry at all.

[Well, I haven't eaten yet. Have you?]

[ I just went out with Sister Yanran and the others. I was waiting for a table when I was called to the General Surgery Department. Let's eat together!]

[Okay, I'll go check on the patients first. I'll see you at the usual place.]

After replying to the message, Zheng Ren happily turned off his phone.

Actually, there were not many patients for him to check in with at the normal wards at the moment. The serious patients were all in the ICU. However, Zheng Ren still went to check on Du Chunfang's postoperative condition out of habit.

After the surgery, the symptoms and other various data were not apparent yet. All he could see were the stable numbers on the suction machine and the display monitor.

Su Yun did not sit around in his chair to make his observations. In his opinion, after Du Chunfang blocked the artery catheter, all symptoms would be alleviated in between twelve to twenty-four hours.

  These were all trivial matters.

Zheng Ren saw that he was not busy, so he asked, "Are you going out for dinner later?"

"What are you going to eat?" Su Yun asked back.

  Zheng Ren had no idea.

Eating for Zheng Ren was considered a necessity. As long as he could eat his fill, Zheng Ren was not very concerned about the rest.

Looking at Zheng Ren's expression, Su Yun immediately guessed the truth.

Pursing his lips, Su Yun said, "You don't even know what you want to eat. What's the use of having you?"

"It's fine if you don't want to leave. I'll be leaving first then." Zheng Ren smiled and turned to leave.

"Who said I don't want to follow you!" Su Yun caught up, turned around, and said goodbye to the ICU doctor before going downstairs with Zheng Ren.

The two of them went straight to Section D of the underground parking lot. Xie Yiren, Chu Yanran, and Chu Yanzhi were already waiting in the car, laughing and chatting.

  Su Yun was obviously tired.

Du Chunfang's incident was not tiring on the body but on the heart.

Along the way, Su Yun began to tell the girls the story of the patient who had the surgery tonight.

Although it had turned out alright, the sad atmosphere within the story could not be ignored.

When she heard Zheng Ren blocking the ICU door to buy time, Xie Yiren's eyes were full of tears. She glanced at Zheng Ren from the corner of her eyes, full of pride.

Su Yun was a good storyteller. The beginning of the story was laid out before being followed by the climax. However, it was not abrupt or out of nowhere. It followed a linear flow, but still has its moments of unexpectedness. He really knew how to tell a story.

When they arrived at the restaurant, they had just reached the part of the story about stopping the tranquilizer and getting the patient's thumbprint.

After getting out of the car, a few girls surrounded him as they wanted to continue listening to his story. Su Yun looked up and saw they had arrived at Xiao Longkan. He frowned.

"Huh? Su Yun, do you not eat spicy food?" Chu Yanran noticed the change in Su Yun's expression and asked curiously.

"I can but only up to a certain extent." Su Yun sighed. He was so engrossed in bragging that he forgot to ask where and what they would be eating.

Forget it. He was already here with them.

It was already very late. Even if Xiao Longkan was busy, their turnover was quick and the number of diners gradually decreased as they waited.

A few of them randomly found an empty seat and sat down. Xie Yiren and Chu Yanzhi picked up the menu and started ordering plenty of dishes.

"Waiter, I want the Mandarin Duck Pot," Su Yun said.

"Hey, don't be such a killjoy!" Chu Yanzhi immediately became unhappy. "You're ordering the Mandarin Duck Pot when we're out here to eat Chongqing hotpot!"

Following that, the three girls began to criticize Su Yun harshly.

In the end, Su Yun compromised and ordered a slightly spicier soup base.

Zheng Ren did not care. He just watched from the side and chuckled.

As long as Xie Yiren was around, it was as if Zheng Ren had lost all of his intelligence. He was no longer pretending to be stupid but actually was.

After ordering a bunch of dishes, the waiter left and Su Yun continued to tell stories.

When the hotpot was served, Su Yun stared blankly at the red soup.

Had he not ordered the mild spiciness level? Were all the soup bases in Xiao Longkan so red in color? Looking at it, he felt like he was about to have an acute attack of hemorrhoids.

  A plate of
tripe and yellow throats were put into the soup.

The soup was bubbling inside the pot, the tripe and yellow throats rolling inside.

"Let's eat!" Chu Yanzhi held her chopsticks and could not hold back the excitement in her heart. Everyone could hear the joy and excitement in her words.

They were all hungry so no one felt the need for pleasantries as they all started eating.

Zheng Ren was not hungry, so he kept putting food into Xie Yiren's bowl. Xie Yiren was a little shy at first but after everyone made fun of her, she gradually got used to it.

"Sigh... You both are acting so lovey-dovey in a corner. Are you trying to make the rest of us feel bad?" Su Yun's face was flushed as he kept huffing and puffing.

However, even though he was almost speechless from the spiciness, he still did not forget to taunt them when he saw Xie Yiren putting food into Zheng Ren's bowl.

"You really can't eat spicy food. I thought that stuff like this would be nothing based on your drinking habits." Chu Yanzhi's forehead was slightly damp as she continued eating happily.

"Those are two different things," Su Yun said. "Why didn't you tell me that we'd be going to eat such spicy food? Why is it so spicy?"

"We usually go out and eat spicy food. We can't eat his spicy food either. It's too spicy," Chu Yanzhi said with a smile.

"This incident proves the importance of Qin Shihuang's unified measurement." Su Yun concluded that Xiao Longkan's food was definitely spicy.

Zheng Ren and Xie Yiren only had eyes for each other and did not notice Su Yun's embarrassment at all.Find authorized novels in , faster updates, better experience, Please click #'s-studio_16489637605120805/the-importance-of-unified-measurement_50340007180828602 for visiting.

Hotpot? If they were drinking, they would sit around the charcoal fire and eat and drink while chatting. They could just slowly eat for the whole day.

Without drinking, they would be full within an hour.

Su Yun returned to the ICU and continued Du Chunfang's observation. In his words, no matter what, he had to make sure this girl lived and experience the warmth of life.

Because it was very late, Chu Yanzhi, Chu Yanran, and Xie Yiren all went home together. Zheng Ren was thrown out of the car earlier. As he watched the Volvo XC60's curvaceous front and rear lines disappear into the distance, he felt a little disappointed.

That night itself was very peaceful. Zheng Ren's prayers seemed to have worked.

When he woke up, the sky was already bright.

Chapter 507 - Patients Sentenced To Death

After breakfast, they arrived at Sea City General Hospital. On the way, Zheng Ren transferred 1000 yuan to Feng Xuhui, telling him to accept it first before telling him his intentions.

He went to a nearby Sinopec Petrol Station to get a gas card. He was prepared to give it to Sister Zhao. Su Yun was right. He was embarrassed to trouble Sister Zhao all the time. Although he was usually reluctant to socialize, he still had to maintain certain relationsh.i.p.s.

When he arrived at the department, Zheng Ren still went around the ward before Old Chief Physician Pan made his own ward rounds.

Professor Rudolf Wagner was lying in a ward bed, fully dressed. He had been recording all kinds of data and indicators while in the ward. When he was tired, he decided to rest on the bed next to him for a short while.

When Zheng Ren entered, the professor was sleeping, his snoring akin to thunder.

The patient blinked his eyes and looked at Zheng Ren innocently and pitifully.

If not for the professor, the patient would have recovered faster, Zheng Ren thought to himself.

Coming out of the ward and preparing to hand over his shift, Zheng Ren saw a couple in the corridor and looked around cautiously.

"Who might you guys be looking for?" Zheng Ren walked over and asked with a gentle smile.

"Excuse me, might you know where Teacher Zheng is?" the man asked.

The man was not tall. He was about 1.65 meters tall, with a stocky build and a fierce face. There seemed to be a gloomy aura emanating from his face.

The first thing Zheng Ren suspected was that he had a liver disease.

Looking at the System's panel on the upper-right side of his vision, the diagnosis was hepatitis-B cirrhosis formed after the resection of a malignant liver tumor.

"That would be me," Zheng Ren continued to smile.

"It's you?" The man was a little surprised. He looked Zheng Ren up and down a few times.

"Well, who was the one who sent you here to me?"

"Chief Wang from the Secondary Hospital." The man finally chose to believe Zheng Ren's words. He smiled apologetically and said, "Teacher Zheng, I found something growing in the left lobe of my liver during a routine physical examination six months ago. Later, I went to the Secondary Hospital to have it removed."

  "What happened after that?"

"I thought I had recovered. I think it's been almost since the New Year? I went for another check-up. Now, there's another tumor growing on the right lobe of my liver. The Department Chief of the hepatobiliary and pancreatic department of the Secondary Hospital said that there's no way to treat it." The man continued, "He asked me to look for Chief Resident Wang of the Interventional Surgery Department. Chief Resident Wang looked at it and shook his head. He said that if there was a possibility of treatment, only you could do it, Teacher Zheng."

This was...a patient who had been sentenced to death.

Zheng Ren knew that cirrhosis accompanied hepatitis-B. There were many small nodules on the liver, and each of these small nodules could potentially become cancerous.

After a lobe of the liver was removed after surgery, they could not continue with another surgery if another tumor grew on the other side of the liver. Besides, the probability of this occurring was almost 50%.

The patient and Zheng Yunxia were in a similar situation.

"Let me take a look at your scan," Zheng Ren said.

The patient hurriedly handed the scan in his hand to Zheng Ren.

When he entered the office, there were still more than ten minutes before his shift would end. Zheng Ren inserted the patient's scan into the scanner and took a look.

After the left lobe of the liver was removed, a 15cm large tumor grew on the right lobe of the liver!

In other words, the patient had basically lost all normal liver function.

No wonder the General Surgery Department and the Interventional Surgery Department in the Secondary Hospital refused to admit him for treatment. The patient in front of him could no longer continue with the usual treatment measures.

This was the sort of situation one would see in television dramas. After that, the doctor would solve the problem and say, "Let's go back. We can eat whatever we want."

Zheng Ren rested his chin on his hand and fell deep into thought.

The patient's expression was a mess. Anxiety, fear, hope, plenty of other emotions could be seen on his face. However, Zheng Ren did not outwardly tell him that there was no way to treat him after seeing the MRI-enhanced film. This gave the patient some hope.

A few minutes later, Zheng Ren asked, "What kind of medical insurance are you covered by?"

"I'm an employee of the city!" The patient's hope was greatly increased.

"Well, we can try," Zheng Ren said. "But whether it will succeed or not is hard for me to say."

"That's fine!" The patient became excited all of a sudden, his face trembling slightly.

"Let's go through the admission procedures first," Zheng Ren said. "Then, we'll do the preoperative check-up. If there's nothing wrong then let's do the surgery as soon as possible."

The patient grabbed Zheng Ren's hand and held it tightly. He was trying to shake his hand but it also felt as if the man was drowning and holding onto his hand like a piece of wood as he attempted to keep afloat.

  "Teacher Zheng, what medicine wi
ll you be administering to me and how effective is it? I'm fine with anything as long as my insurance covers it!" the patient said.

Zheng Ren nodded and asked Chang Yue to admit the patient into the hospital.

After his shift, Zheng Ren brought the patient who had just completed the hospitalization procedures to the ward to discuss his condition in further detail.

Zheng Ren was a little worried about this patient. He was different from Chang Yue when it came to talking with patients or their families. He mainly talked about what options the patient had based on their condition that would allow them to get better.

The patient's name was Li Chen. He was 52 years old and a local employee at Sea City.

When he came to the ward, Zheng Ren went straight to the point and said, "Old Li, there are a few requirements you must fulfill. Otherwise, no matter how hard I do things on my end, your chances of success will not be high in the long run."

"Yes, yes." Li Chen nodded hurriedly and listened carefully.

"First, you must control your temper. Don't be impatient and try not to be angry whenever you can help it. This is very important. You must remember this. If you want to live, you must control your temper," Zheng Ren said seriously.

Li Chen was a little hesitant but still nodded.

"Old Li, to put it bluntly, liver patients usually all have bad tempers," Zheng Ren said. "In the past, you could have a short fuse but now, you can't be that way no matter what. Do you understand?"

"Yes, yes. I understand," Li Chen quickly replied.

"Second, you can't drink alcohol. When you eat, you have to pay attention to your diet as well."Find authorized novels in , faster updates, better experience, Please click #'s-studio_16489637605120805/patients-sentenced-to-death_50340008237780425 for visiting.

Zheng Ren nagged him for nearly ten minutes before he exited the ward.

This patient's condition was even worse than Zheng Yunxia's. Other than her dark complexion, her movements and mental state were normal. She was just like an ordinary person with no physical signs of her actual illness.

This was also the reason why many patients with liver cancer were unable to be treated once their condition was discovered.
