The Reign of Rain Robinson Page 23

“Teenage girls between the ages of thirteen and seventeen. Usually they are runaways, or girls that are in the street because of problems at home. But this girl is different.”

Dawkins looked at Kirk before she asked her question and he extended his hand graciously for her to proceed.

  “What makes her different, lieutenant?”

“Well, for one, she wasn’t a runaway. She went to Forten High School, straight A student, part of the track team, and she was on the girls’ basketball team. Her parents say she was liked by all her friends and never had an enemy. She was last seen on Saturday night hanging out with her girlfriends at a house party. The body was found a week later.”

Kirk looked at Dawkins before he asked his question and she extended her hand graciously.

  “Have the friends been interviewed?”

“I can’t say for certain, but you’ll find out when you get a look at the file.”

Kirk and Dawkins looked at each other in confusion.

“What file?” They both asked simultaneously.

Sanchez paused and ran his fingers through his hair. “After the sixth murder, the commissioner talked to the captain and told him to put our best people on it,” he said, looking at Kirk. “That’s when the idea started floating around that you need to be brought back up to the majors to work the case.”

  “Why me?”

“Some people around here think you’re the best homicide cop on the job and that you’re wasting your time here playing bush league ball, chasing down drug dealers. I happen to be one of those people, in case you’re interested. So effective immediately, and this came straight from One Penn, your back in Major Case. Congratulations, detective.”

  “Congratulations,” Dawkins said.

“Thank you. But, I have a question.”

  “What’s that?” Sanchez asked.

“What did the captain have to say about all this?” Kirk asked, knowing that Captain Keys didn’t want him on his Major Case Squad.

“He didn’t like it and that’s why it didn’t happen right away,” Sanchez said. “And that’s why it had to come from the commissioner’s office.”

“Figures,” Kirk said, and he and Sanchez laughed.

Dawkins sat there for a while listening to their hearty laughter, wondering what the joke was for as long as she could. “I have a question,” she finally said.

  “What’s that?” Sanchez asked.

“What does any of this have to do with me?” she asked.

Sanchez chuckled. “You see, the captain wanted to put you on the case instead.”

“Me?” Dawkins questioned and pointed to herself. “Why me?”

“Because of all that time you spent in the streets working undercover, the captain argued that you’d be a better fit for the squad.”

  “Okay …” Dawkins said tentatively.

  “Wait for it,” Kirk laughed.

“It was decided to put both of you on the case. So, effective immediately, and this came straight from One Penn, you’ve been transferred to the Major Case Squad. Congratulations, Detective Dawkins.”

Kirk and Dawkins looked at each other.

“I guess that makes us partners, detective,” Kirk said.

“I guess it does, detective,” Dawkins smiled.

After Sanchez told the new partners all the other details that he’d been given and told them to report to Lieutenant McGraw, they left the office laughing. Batista was looking straight at them. Dawkins leaned close to Kirk.

“I’ll leave you to tell your fiery ex-partner,” Dawkins said and walked to her desk to get her stuff.

“Thanks,” Kirk said and went to clear out his desk knowing that since there was already tension between them, that she wasn’t going to take it well.

“What was that about?” Bautista asked the second that Kirk was close enough.

Kirk took a deep breath, sat down and recounted all the details of the case that he had just been assigned.

“What aren’t you telling me?” Bautista asked.

“I’ve been assigned to work it, so I’m going back to Major Case.”

Bautista posted her fake smile, because even though she was happy for Kirk because she knew this was what he wanted, she was still mad at him. “Well then, I guess congratulations are in order.”

“Thank you,” Kirk said and then he got up to get a box to put his stuff in. It wasn’t until Kirk began packing that Bautista noticed that he wasn’t the only one packing.

“Where the fuck is she going?” she asked at the sight of Dawkins packing her desk on the other side of the room.

“She’s been transferred to Major Case too,” Kirk said while continuing to pack his stuff.

“So, you two are going to be partners now?” Bautista said loudly, and everybody in the unit looked at them.

  “Yes.”

“You got rid of me just that quick,” Bautista said.

“No, this came straight from the commissioner’s office.”

“Sure, it did,” Bautista said as Dawkins walked up.

  “You ready … partner?”

“Yeah, give me a second,” Kirk said.

Dawkins looked at Bautista. “Have a good day, detective,” she said and left the office.

“What about everything we got going, you know, with Rain?” Bautista asked softly, because they were working the case against Rain Robinson off-book.

“I’ll help out as much as I can, but you know how these cases get,” Kirk said as he finished packing up his desk. “We’ll talk about this tonight. I’m sorry, Marita, but I gotta go.”

Bautista sat there furious as she watched Kirk walk out.

“That’s okay,” Bautista said to herself. “I’ll get Rain Robinson by myself.”

  “Bautista! My office, now!”

  Chapter Two

Rain Robinson sat alone in her office, waiting for Carla Assante to arrive. She was thinking about the night before, when she and Wanda met Black at the airport to tell him what had been going on while he and Bobby were vacationing in Fiji with their wives. Rain thought about how Black sat quietly and listened while she talked and then in typical Mike Black style, told them who their enemy was.

“Your real enemy is Milton Petty,” Black said calmly.

“Milton Petty?” Wanda questioned because she knew him.

“Who the fuck is Milton Petty?” Rain asked, and Wanda told her about the legitimate businessman that she knew.

“Kwame Coleman doesn’t do, or for that matter, say anything that Milton didn’t think or say first,” Bobby said.

“Why would a guy like that be coming after us?” Rain asked.

“I don’t know, but we’ll talk about it later,” Black said and then he and Bobby got out of the limo.

“Where do you think they’re in such a hurry to go?” Wanda asked.

“I don’t know,” Rain answered, but her mind was on something else.

  “You going in?”

“No. Take me back to the house,” Rain ordered.

As Alwan drove Rain back to Wanda’s safe house, she recalled meeting a David Petty. One night, Rain had lost her bodyguards, and she and Analicia Chaves were out at the club. They never used their real names when they went out. So, that night, they were Sally and Lucy.

  “Sally and Lucy?”

“You know, from Peanuts,” Analicia said.

Rain laughed. “Why Sally and Lucy?”

“I’m Sally, the cute, adorable one, and you’re Lucy, the mean, bossy one.”

Since Rain really couldn’t argue, they went with it and it became their thing.

At the club that night, they met David Petty and a banker friend of his and the four hung out. The two bankers were spending money on Rain and Analicia like it was water, and eventually the party moved to a bar in a nearby hotel. Rain took DP to a suite and she fucked the shit outta him.

As soon as they stepped in the door, he was turned the fuck on when Rain told him, “Take those fu
ckin’ clothes off and that dick better be all you hyped it up to be.”

DP didn’t have time to think, he was too busy rushing to get undressed as he was instructed, while trying to watch Rain as she came out of her clothes. He knew that he was coming with some shit, so all her sexy ass needed was to have that wet shit she promised, and he would fuck the shit out of her.

Rain grabbed a condom from her purse and walked toward DP. “Not bad.” She started to jerk his dick up and down. “Now, let’s see if you know how to use it,” Rain said as she put the condom on him and led him by the dick to the bed. She pushed DP on the bed and slid that wet shit down on him.

“That’s right,” he said, looking up at Rain.

She wasn’t looking at him, she didn’t need to. He was just dick to her anyway, so her eyes were closed, and Rain was sliding down hard on him, riding that dick hard and fast.

DP laid beneath her, pushing his dick in her as hard as he could and with all the power he had, and Rain was bringing it down on him like no woman ever had before. He considered himself a master dick slinger, and she was matching him stroke for stroke. Even through the condom, DP could feel how wet Rain’s pussy was, a fact that was confirmed when her juice flowed onto his balls and then down on the sheets.

The smacking sound reverberated throughout the room and Rain kept fucking him, chanting, “That’s right, fuck this pussy.”

  And he did.

Then Rain wanted DP to fuck her from behind, so she got on her knees. “Come get this pussy.”

DP slid in behind her, grabbed her hips and eased inside of her slowly, before he began thrusting hard and fast.

“That’s it. Fuck me!” Rain demanded, and an orgasm snuck up on her.

After a while, DP slowed down to enjoy the sheer joy of sliding in and out of her and simply admiring her ass, but Rain wasn’t having it, so she took over. She began popping back and forth on his dick, loving the sound of her wet pussy as her ass slammed against him. She wanted it harder and faster.

“Stop fuckin’ around and give me that big dick.”

It took all he had, all his will, all his power and definitely all the energy he had, but DP fucked Rain every way she told him to and for as long as she wanted it, which allowed her multiple orgasms before he tapped out.

When she was done with him, Rain got up, got dressed and was about to leave when he called her from the bed.

  “Can I see you again?”

“I got your card,” Rain said and left him lying there.

One night, Rain was at J.R.’s, she was bored, horny and ready to fuck. So, she found DP’s card and she called him from a burner. After very little small talk, Rain got to the point.

  “Look, I wanna fuck.”

“Just say when and where,” DP said excitedly.

“When is now, that’s why I’m calling, and where is the Park Hyatt.”

  “I’m on my way.”

“Good. Hurry up,” Rain said and started to end the call.

  “Lucy!” DP shouted.

  “What?”

  “What room you in.”

Rain laughed. “I’ll be waiting for you in The Living Room.”

  “Huh?”

“It’s the hotel bar. Least you could do is buy a bitch a drink before you get this pussy,” Rain said and ended the call.

When he arrived, DP paid for the room and then went to The Living Room. After a couple of drinks, they went to the room and she proceeded to put it on him even better than before.

  DP was hooked.

  But after that, Lucy disappeared.

Since the only time that Lucy called, she called from a burner, DP had no way to contact her. All he had was a fuzzy picture he snuck and took of her that first night at the club.

DP hired someone to clean up the image and then he hired a private investigator to try and find Lucy. The investigator did everything he could to find her, but since she didn’t really exist, he was having problems. He even ran the image through facial recognition software. But since Lucy, aka Rain Robinson, never had a driver’s license and had never been arrested, that turned out to be a dead-end as well.

DP thought that he would never see her again. That all changed the day he showed the cleaned-up image to his childhood friend and business partner, Sterling. Before his mother died and he went to live with his father, DP came up hard in the streets with Sterling.

“Nigga, that’s Rain Robinson,” Sterling said and stepped back a little.

“You say that like it’s supposed to mean something to me.”

“If it don’t, mutha fucka, it should.”

“Who the fuck is Rain Robinson?” he asked, and Sterling took his time telling his boy everything that he knew or had ever heard about Rain Robinson.

Now that DP knew her real name, he went back to his investigator and told him that he needed him to find out all he could about Rain Robinson.

“You’re crazy,” he said and quit.

After talking to ten investigators about taking the job and getting turned down by all of them, DP found one. He was an ex-police sergeant named Lenny Greeley. He was a washed-out drunk, but he was able to reach out to some of his old police contacts and they gave Greeley all the information that DP wanted. That, coupled with what Sterling knew, DP knew all he needed to know about Rain Robinson.

Though he still wanted to fuck her, DP’s eyes got big when he began thinking that he could simply kill Rain and her captains, and everything would fall apart. Then, in the confusion, he could then move in with his drug people and pick up the pieces.

“Hell no,” Sterling said. “I don’t want no parts of that plan. And you ain’t usin’ none of my people to get it done.”

And that’s when DP was forced to turn to Kwame Coleman. He had always envied the scope of Black’s organization and since he had always seen himself as somebody who could play on that level, Kwame was down with it.

“Your daddy know about this?” Kwame asked.

“No, I haven’t told him yet.”

  “What you gonna tell him?”

“Nothing, yet. I’m gonna wait until our plan is operational and then I’ll tell him,” DP said.

“Good,” Kwame said. “He’ll just shit all over the idea like he always does.” He blamed Milton for him not being a player on that level. “It ain’t a good idea unless it’s his.”

“Don’t I know it,” DP said. “That’s why I’m talking to you and not him.”

The following day, Rain told Yarissa to get in touch with Carla Assante and have her meet Rain at J.R.’s that night. When Carla arrived, Rain told her to look into David Petty.

“And nobody, not Monika, not even Xavier needs to know what you’re doing for me. But I need to know if David Petty is Milton Petty’s son. Understand?”

  “Understood.”

  Chapter Three

While Rain was thinking about David ‘DP’ Petty, he was thinking about her. At this point, DP was feeling pretty good about the way things had turned out. Sure, his bid to take over The Family was unsuccessful, and he was a little disappointed that his father, Milton had skipped to Venezuela. But DP was alive and still in business.

He had watched Carmen Taylor on TV as she reported the Breaking News of how she smashed a human trafficking ring with the arrest of Walter Bonner at Enzo’s Palace. But the truth was something completely different. DP was now in business with men, who were already in the human trafficking industry, to ship the women to his overseas clients. He had the new spot for the online operation up and ready to go long before the police ever set foot in Enzo’s. The new operation was being run out of a warehouse in the South Bronx.

So, DP was feeling good because everything else that Rain and her people destroyed were his father’s businesses. The only loose end left was Bonner, and the plan for him to hang himself in his cell was in progress. Once that was taken care of, he could put this matter behind him and try to forget it ever happened.

But the one thing that he coul
dn’t put behind him, the thing that he’d tried but couldn’t move on from was Lucy.

I don’t know why I still wanna call her that, DP thought. The truth of the matter was that Rain Robinson had put some shit on him and he wanted her. Wanted her badly.

  Still want her.

And while he was having this moment of truth and clarity, DP had to admit that the whole takeover thing was more because he was mad. DP was a man who was used to getting what he wanted and so getting humped and dumped was totally unfathomable to him. I put some shit on her sexy ass, DP thought, so he couldn’t understand what the problem was. Now what? That was the question.

Maybe if I start hanging around J.R.’s, I could just bump into her, you know, by accident, he thought, but then thought better of it. Rain had burned all of his father’s operations to the ground in one night. If they were able to tie any of those businesses to his father, that would lead straight to him. Maybe that’s why Pop skipped the country, and why he should seriously consider it.

  “Where you at, Dee!”

  “Huh?”

  “Where you at?” Sterling asked.

“I was just thinking,” DP said and picked up his drink.

“Whatever it is, it must be some deep shit.”

“Trust me, it is,” DP said to his oldest friend and business partner. They were sitting in the office at the warehouse that the online operation was now being run out of.

From all appearances, the warehouse looked no different from any of the others in the area. And when you went inside, at first glance, DP’s warehouse appeared to be a legitimate business. The building was used to house the paper products that were used in the fish and chicken restaurants. There was armed security at the door controlling access to the warehouse floor where the products were stored, along with four offices on the outside walls. On the second level, there was a long hall that was lined with eight rooms on each side where the women worked. DP’s office was at the end of the hall.

The elaborately decorated office had a bar on one wall, while another wall was lined with sixteen masturbating women, each woman on sixteen forty-inch screens
