The Reign of Rain Robinson Page 46

by Roy Glenn

Although she knew that Travis loved her, and she loved him and always had since they were kids, his affection for Fiona worried her. It was all the things that Fiona was willing and anxious to do for him in bed. Things he liked. Things she wouldn’t do to please him; Fiona was all over it for him.

“Whatever you desire, Travis,” was what she always said to his requests.

He’s probably fuckin’ Fiona in her ass right now.

Jackie was able to push thoughts of Travis’s dick in Fiona’s ass out of her mind long enough to do what she needed to do. Baby Chris had filled her in on everything that had happened during her absence. She had visited all of the spots she controlled, and Jackie was thinking about calling it a night.

“What you getting ready to do?” Jackie asked.

“After I drop you off, I’ma swing by The Four Kings to check on Money. You know, make sure he’s good after the drive-by, see if they need any help going back at the niggas that did it.”

“Go ahead. You can drop me off after that.”

  “You still at the Plaza?”

“No, we went home last night. It felt good to be home, sleep in my own bed.” Get fucked in my own bed, she thought and that thought brought her back to Travis and Fiona fuckin’ in her bed. But that wasn’t what really bothered Jackie. Fiona had her sprung, and there wasn’t shit she could do about it.

“Yeah, after we check on Money and them, take me home,” Jackie told Baby Chris as they got close to The Four Kings.

It was just about that time when Darren, Kenny and Larry had gotten their bottles filled with gas and had arrived at The Four Kings. They got out of the car, went around to the trunk and took out the box that contained the bottles. Darren passed out the bottles and was about to light one when Larry got a funny look on his face and looked at Darren.

“Who says I’m dumb?” Larry asked, and Darren and Kenny fell out laughing.

“Nobody says you’re dumb, Larry. I was just sayin’ that shit, that’s all,” Darren said, but he was still laughing.

“Stop lyin’, nigga,” Kenny said laughing. “You know everybody says he’s dumb.”

“I am not dumb!” Larry shouted, got in Kenny’s face and an argument ensued. With bottles filled with glass in hand, the two argued until Darren had had enough.

“Stop! Y’all niggas need to stop this bitch shit and do what we came here to do,” he shouted, but it was at that time that Jackie and Baby Chris parked down the street from The Four Kings and were walking toward the club.

“Check it out,” Baby Chris said and pointed to the three men as one lit a match. “Are those firebombs they got?”

“Looks like it,” Jackie said and drew her weapon. When Darren threw the first bottle, she took aim and shot the firebomb in midair and then she laughed. “Aiming, something these niggas don’t know anything about,” she said, as Larry and Kenny opened fire on them.

Baby Chris fired back and hit Larry with his first shot and then he took out Kenny. Alone and running out of ammo, Darren thought it would be a good time to leave. He tried to get back in the car to make his escape, but he wasn’t fast enough. Jackie raised her weapon and fired one shot. It hit him in the back of his head.

  Chapter Ten

Once they were alerted about the shooting, Marvin and Judah came out of The Four Kings. When they got outside, Judah asked Kelsey what happened, and he pointed at Jackie and Baby Chris. They had looked over the bodies and were about to leave when they saw Marvin and Judah coming across the street.

“What happened?” Marvin asked Jackie as they walked quickly back to her car.

“I don’t know. We were on our way to the club when Baby Chris saw those three with firebombs. You might want to get somebody to get those bottles before somebody else does,” Jackie recommended.

“On it,” Judah said and ran back to secure the bottles of gas.

“We was on our way to check on you, Money,” Baby Chris said when they got to the car. “Make sure you were alright, see if you needed anything. Good thing we did,” he said and got in the car.

  “Good looking out,” Marvin said.

“I called Edwina, she’s on her way,” Jackie said.

“I doubt if she gets here before the cops do.”

“She said she was nearby,” Jackie said.

“What; does she live in that van?” Marvin asked.

“She said she gotta stay ready.” Jackie laughed. “We drop a lot of bodies. Besides, reports of shots fired in this neighborhood aren’t gonna bring the police anytime soon. She’ll be there.” She started the car. “We out.”

Marvin watched as the car drove away before he walked back to the club. First, they tried to kill him and now they were trying to burn down the club and if Jackie and Baby Chris hadn’t been there, they would have succeeded. Mobley was coming hard at them over killing Frank and Evander. They were at war over that decision and he had to be ready. That meant he needed to get serious about recruiting muscle like Nick told him.

Although he knew that if they got deep in it and couldn’t handle it, The Family would step in. They were a part of Doc’s crew and Judah was Doc’s son, that was more than enough to crush Mobley.

But this is my shit, Marvin thought.

It all started with DeMarco. That’s why they were there when Evander got there. He was the one who went to RJ and insisted that they had to get Evander and Frank before they came at them. He was the one who put a bullet in Mobley’s brother’s head. No, this was his shit and he had to be the one to handle it.

By the time he got back to the club, the police hadn’t arrived, but Edwina had. She not only had the bodies off the street and in the van with a little help from Judah and Kelsey, but she had secured the gas as well. With her task complete, Edwina prepared to leave when the sound of sirens began to fill the air.

“That’s my cue.” She kissed Judah on the cheek. “You guys sure know how to keep a girl busy,” she said and got in the van.

  “What’s up with that?”

“You’re guess is as good as mine, Money,” Judah said as they walked to the club to talk to the police. Marvin told the police that he didn’t know anything about any shooting. And after Judah assured them that he had been outside the entire time and there was no shooting, the police got another call and left. Marvin and Judah walked back in the club and were glad that the police didn’t look around and see the blood on the ground.

They had only been back in the office for a few minutes when RJ got there with Venus. The second that he hit the door, Kelsey had told him what happened there earlier.

  “What the fuck?”

“Mutha fuckas tried to firebomb the club,” Marvin said. “First Mobley tried to hit me and now this.”

Judah shook his head. “I saw the bodies, Money. They wasn’t Mobley’s people. It was Darren, Larry and Kenny.” He turned to RJ. “Those are Barnes’ people. This is about you RJ.”

“Barnes said it wasn’t over,” Marvin said, looking at Venus and thinking that she didn’t need to be in the room when they were discussing business and he hoped that RJ would ask her to leave before he had to.

“That’s not all Barnes did tonight. He tried to hit me outside Venus’s apartment. I can’t say for sure that it was Barnes himself that did it, but Venus recognized his car.”

Judah shook his head. “This is not good. We got both of them at us now.”

RJ stood up. “We need to go to The Late Night and talk to Pills.” And with that, Marvin, Judah and Venus followed RJ out of the office. But Venus only got as far as the front door.

“Kelsey. Take Venus home. Stay with her until she packs some things and then you take her to a hotel,” RJ ordered. Marvin nodded his head. “I’m trusting you with her life.”

“I got her, RJ, for sure,” Kelsey said, and RJ turned to Venus. She, of course, did not look happy.

“I need you to go with Kelsey.”

  “Yeah, I heard.”

He took Venus by the hand
and walked her away from the door. “I really can’t say for sure if he was trying to kill me, you or both of us.”

“I never thought of it that way. I betrayed his boy and that’s why you had to kill him for me.” She nodded her head quickly. “Now I understand.”

“I just need to know that you are someplace safe.”

“I’ll go with Kelsey,” Venus said and kissed him on the cheek. RJ signaled for Kelsey and he left with Marvin and Judah. When they got to The Late Night and explained the situation to Pills, he had one thing to say.

  “This is not good.”

“That’s the same thing I said,” Judah said.

“Now we got both of them at us,” Pills added.

“What?” RJ asked. “You two get together and rehearse your lines?” They all laughed. “We laughin’, but this shit is serious,” RJ said.

“We got Barnes and Mobley at us at the same time,” Judah said. “We need to get them up off us.”

“Question is, what we gonna do?” Pills asked.

“I don’t know about Barnes, but I know for a fact that it was Odell, Psych and Latavius that tried to hit me,” Marvin said, no longer thinking about talking to his father about it first. Sometimes you can’t wait. You gotta make a decision and you have to be right. It was something else Nick told him.

“Like I said, Money, it’s your call,” RJ said. “We’re with you.”

“I need to make a call,” Marvin said and took out his phone. He dialed and soon somebody answered.

  “Hey, Money.”

  “Where that nigga at, Sexy?”

“My girl just texted me a little while ago and she said they at Classics.”

“Thanks, Sexy. I owe you one,” Marvin said and ended the call. “Odell is at Classics right now.”

“Let’s go get that nigga,” Judah said and stood up.

“We about to walk straight up in the lion’s den.” RJ bounced to his feet. “I love it.”

Pills pulled the pump from under his desk. “I’m ready.”

“That’s what I’m talkin’ ‘bout,” Judah said as he and Marvin followed RJ to the weapons safe. Once all four kings were heavily armed, RJ looked at his brothers.

“Suit up. We bustin’ the black tonight,” RJ said.

It was a half hour later when the kings arrived at Classics dressed all in black with ski masks and gloves. When they walked in, Pills fired one shot from the pump at the ceiling and then put both barrels in the doorman’s face as RJ, Marvin and Judah rushed in. They found Odell and dragged him out of there.

They drove him to The Late Night and took him in the back entrance and down the same long hallway that Black, Bobby, Wanda and Rain walked down just a few nights before.

“Where we going?” Judah asked as he and Marvin dragged a hooded Odell down the hall with Pills trailing behind with the pump pointed at Odell’s head.

“You’ll see,” RJ said as he got to the end of the hall and pressed the crack in the wall. The door opened, and the kings walked in.

“Their old gambling room,” Judah said, snatching off his mask and looking around in awe that they were standing in Family history.

“My Pop and Uncle Mike don’t know I know about this place,” RJ said.

“How did you find it?” Marvin asked while he and Pills tied Odell to a chair.

“I was walking through the place with the little Prince, you know, showing him our spot. And I came down here and found this hall that led to nothing and I said, not Pop and Uncle Mike, they wouldn’t have a hall to nowhere. There’s something behind the wall. So I started feeling around on the wall and found it.”

Once the kings got finished reveling in where they were and the history of it and how they were forging their place in that history, they got to work. Marvin began punching Odell.

“You are going to die tonight, so you might as well tell me who was the shooter and where Psych and Latavius are,” was all he wanted to know.

Then Judah took over the beating, and then they started taking turns. One would punch him in the face, and then the other would punch him in the chest.

“I told you I don’t know where Psych and Latavius are,” he said, and Marvin punched Odell again.

“And I said I don’t fuckin’ believe you.” Marvin got in his face. “Now tell me who was with you!”

“You know what we need here, Money?” Judah asked.

“What’s that?” Marvin said and punched Odell in the face again.

“We need to do some shit you’re Pops would do,” Judah said, and he punched Odell in the chest. “Him and that nigga, Freeze woulda had this bitch-nigga singing by now.”

Marvin punched Odell. “You know.” He punched Odell. “That ain’t a bad idea,” he said and punched Odell again. “We could get some acid and burn this mutha fucka.”

  Odell’s eyes opened wide.

“Let me get some acid. Pills, kick this niggas ass until I get back,” he said and turned away from Odell, so he wouldn’t see him laughing.

The last thing that he wanted was to get burned with acid, but he thought they wouldn’t do it.

“Naa, Money. That shit will take too long,” RJ commented. Although he had much respect for Nick and Freeze, he knew for a fact that his father and Uncle Mike did it better than anybody.

“You’re right, RJ.” Marvin turned back to Odell. “Getting a tire and some gas and setting this nigga on fire would be quicker.”

“Bet he talks before you light the match,” Pills said and punched Odell again.

“Okay, okay, shit … y’all niggas is crazy,” Odell said and then told Marvin who was with him and where he might be able to find Latavius.

“Was that so hard?” Marvin asked and shot Odell in the head. “Now, let’s go get that nigga.”

  Chapter Eleven

With new information, the kings armed themselves and went out in search of their new prey. Before Marvin shot him, Odell told him that the shooter was Norreece Jefferson and where to find him. Odell had reached out to him because he knew that Norreece was a real gun nut that had weapons of all kinds stashed all around his house in case unwelcomed and uninvited guests decided to visit. “Y’all ready?” RJ asked and received nods of confirmation before he kicked in the door. The second they rushed inside; they could see Norreece’s huge shadow standing by the window with an Uzi in each hand. “You mutha fuckas came to rob the wrong nigga,” he said and opened up with both weapons. All four kings dove for the floor and crawled to whatever cover they could as Norreece blasted away. When the guns were empty, and before the kings could react, he dropped the Uzi’s, picked up a Charles Daly 528 twenty-eight gauge shotgun. Norreece fired three shots before he tossed the shottie and ran. That gave the kings an opportunity to return fire. Pills was first to his feet, and he fired the pump at Norreece, but he missed as he run in the kitchen. “He went in the kitchen!” Judah shouted and went after him. But when he came through the archway to the kitchen, he saw Norreece standing there with a double barrel shotgun. “Oh, shit!” Judah dove for the floor just as Norreece fired with both barrels. He dropped the shotgun and ran out the other side of the kitchen as Marvin came in firing. Norreece ran to the back of the house and into the den where he had more weapons. In addition to the weapons, the room had a big flat screen on the wall, furniture big enough to hide behind and a mirror on the ceiling. Norreece ran in the room, shut the door and went to lay down on the floor behind the couch. From there, he had a clear line of sight to the door. He reached under the couch where he had an AR15s and looked up at the ceiling. When Marvin came in the den, Norreece sat up and opened fire. Marvin immediately turned and got out of there. Norreece slammed in another clip, stood up and resumed firing as he walked across the room to the stairs that led to the second level. He stood on the bottom step firing and yelling, “Come on, mutha fuckas! Come get some of this good shit right here!” Once the AR was empty, Norreece tossed it and ran up the steps and to the landing that was furnished only with a couch
and love seat. The kings entered the den in time to see him at the top of the steps before he was out of sight. “Big boy is fast than a mutha fucka,” Judah said as he and Marvin ran up the steps. RJ looked at Pills. “Stay down here. He doesn’t leave this house.” “The mutha fucka is leaving with Edwina,” Pills said as RJ went up the stairs. When they reached the top of the stairs, they looked around, but Norreece was nowhere in sight. “He’s up here somewhere,” RJ said, as the three moved slowly away from the stairs. Norreece watched them inch along until were in the perfect spot. “Now you niggas is gonna die!” he promised as he stood and opened fire with the M134 six-barrel rotary Minigun. The kings once again were forced to dive for cover and remained motionless until high rate of sustained fire was over. When the shooting stopped, RJ, Marvin and Judah returned fire, but Norreece was gone. “Where’d he go?” Judah asked. “There he goes!” Marvin yelled as he saw Norreece go in one of the bedrooms and Marvin ran behind him. He got to the door and stopped. With his back to the wall, Marvin waited for his brothers to catch up. They stood on either side of the door, breathing hard and looking at each other. “We going in?” RJ asked, as he reloaded. “Ain’t no telling what he got in there,” Judah said. “Why you think I didn’t rush in there behind him,” Marvin said. “He might have gone out the window,” RJ suggested and Marvin hit the door hard. Norreece responded by blowing a hole through the door. “He’s still in there,” Judah said. “Who wants to be first through the door?” he asked, but nobody volunteered. “This your show, Money, what you wanna do?” RJ asked. Marvin thought for a second or two. “Wait here, Judah.” Marvin went back down the hall into the door with RJ and went back to the landing. He looked at the couch and then the love seat. “Come on,” he said and went toward the love seat. “What’s your plan?” RJ asked. “We go in behind this,” Marvin said and tapped the love seat. The Marvin and RJ tipped the love seat on its side and pushed it down the hall. “He still in there?” RJ asked and Judah hit the door. The response was the same; Norreece put another big hole in the door. “I’m gonna say yeah, that nigga still in there,” he said as they angled the love seat in front of the door. Once they had it positioned so it would make it through the doorway, the kings readied their weapons and Judah slowly turned the handle and pushed the door open. Norreece began firing immediately as the kings came in behind the love seat. Once they were in the room, they all began firing. Norreece, who had been standing in front of the door in the middle of the room with a nine miller in each hand firing before he run to the window and went out. “He’s outside!” RJ yelled and turned for the stairs as Marvin and Judah went out the window behind Norreece. On unsteady and unsure legs, Marvin and Judah watch as a sure-footed Norreece run to the edge of the structure and jumped. “Damn!” Marvin said, but that was Norreece’s first mistake. As Norreece made his way to the garage, Pills came out the first door. He stopped and took aim. Norreece stopped and turned, but with no cover, Pills lit him up. With the shooting over and the shooter dead, they collected their expended shells and got out of there.
