They tucked the kids in for the night before going out on the porch and watching the stars. That was as close as he would ever get to Zar-Kan. Not that he wanted to go back—he would never want to go back.
To expose his children to Angry Queen was not something that he was willing to do. Not something that he would ever put his children through, remembering how it was when he grew up with her. Knowing that he had been raised by someone as cold and uncaring as her.
“Do you miss home?” Melinda asked him, kissing him on his shoulder as she wrapped her arms around his waist.
“No, not a bit,” he told her quickly, maybe a little too quickly.
“Are you sure?” she kissed his other shoulder.
“I’m positive; my home is wherever you are. Where our children are. Where love is. I never want our children to feel the anger,” he explained to her. “To know that there is evil out there. I’m going to protect them for as long as I can.”
X-Jorn turned around and hugged Melinda to him. He couldn’t believe out of all the hate that he had found one thing in this world that had shown him love. Right from the start.
“Without you, I wouldn’t know. If you hadn’t saved me that night, if you hadn’t shown me that humans can be kind, we wouldn’t be having this discussion right now,” he confessed to her. “I believed everything Angry Queen had told me was the truth when those men robbed me.”
“It’s not that way anymore,” Melinda whispered, holding him tightly. “Look at all the love that we have surrounding us. Look at the family that we have created. I am lucky to have you as well as such an amazing family.”
X-Jorn wasn’t going to argue with her. They had their playful time when all the kids were sleeping. Who loved who the most… he loved playing that game with her because it was a sign that nothing would ever change between them.
The love would always be there. That love would conquer everything, no matter what came their way.
“Do you like it here?” he asked her.
“I love it here!” Melinda assured him. “The beach, the wooded area… and I love looking at the stars! I love seeing them shine and sparkle so much. It’s not at all like how I used to live before you came into my life. You would think that I wouldn’t want to be here after looking at the same things day in and day out, but it’s not like that. I’m truly happy, X-Jorn.”
“Don’t start something that you can’t finish,” he chuckled, kissing the side of her neck.
“I can finish it and you know that I can,” she giggled at him, pressing her body against his and feeling his hardness.
“You don’t want to do that” he teased her softly.
“Oh, but I do.” She threw her head back and laughed.
It was the same laugh that she had gotten him with when he first heard it. When they first met.
It was something that would always get him—it was the laughter of fun and love. The sound was always music to his ears. He always wanted to make her laugh. Always wanted her to stay happy.
Melinda pulled away from him and took his hand in hers. She led him back into the house and up the stairs to the bedroom that they now shared.
It was different every time they made love. Somehow it always felt like the first time with X-Jorn and she couldn’t help but want him more and more as the days went on.
“Are you sure you want to do this?” his voice was teasing as he closed the door behind them, putting the lock in place.
“Yes, I always want to,” she told him softly. “Only with you. X-Jorn, you are the love of my life. I can see why I was all alone. I wasn’t even waiting… I wasn’t looking. And you came along in need of rescuing.”
He rolled his eyes and followed her to the bed, holding her in his arms tightly as she kissed him gently on the lips.
“You know that I love you so much, right?” X-Jorn asked, kissing her back.
“I know that you do and I love you as well… I always will.” Melinda promised him, as he wrapped her in his arms tightly.
