“You’ve already got me, baby.” Brody positioned his hips over hers and slowly slid inside her. “Always.”

Kara arched upwards to match his rhythm. “Now, about those hands?”

Brody gave her a sly smile, then trailed his hands down and over her body. His hand stopped when it got to her clit, and he tugged the tiny nub in between two of his fingers as he pumped deep inside her. The action elicited a cry of pleasure from her lips, and she moaned loudly.

  “You like that?”

“Oh, yes! Please… please keep going…” She lost herself in the endorphin rush fluttering through her body, then came hard when his cock hit her g-spot. He knew just how to move to push her buttons. “Brody!”

He reached his own peak and came in spurts. Then he wrapped his arms around her body and collapsed on the bed from the exertion. “I warned you about my hands…”

“And evil, evil plans!” Kara giggled as she shifted around so they lay face to face. She leaned forward and kissed him deeply. “Thank you for taking care of me. I know some of it stems from the crap I’ve been doing to myself lately. I know you always have my best interests at heart, and I’ll do better with listening.”

“I’m glad you know.” Brody planted a kiss on the top of her forehead. “I’ll go make brunch. When you’re ready, come downstairs.” He got out of bed, dressed, then left her to her thoughts.

He took care of her in ways she never could have imagined, not even in her wildest dreams. And he never lost his cool, not even when she bratted him! She needed to do her best to follow the rules to show her appreciation. Their relationship fit her every want—and even fulfilled desires she didn’t know she had.

She got out of bed with a huge smile on her face. Wicked plans and wicked hands. It sounded like her next tattoo.

  Chapter Six

Kara arrived at the doctor’s office at eight in the morning. She entered hesitantly, her deep fears hitting her as she stepped inside, and she took a deep breath.

Kaitlyn met her immediately with a grin. “Kara! I’m so happy to see you this morning! We’ve got a ton of patients today since we’re doing our first round of flu shots today.”

Kara tried to force a smile, but the thought of all those needles made her very uncomfortable. No doubt she wouldn’t be able to escape her own dose. “Yippee…”

“So, follow me to the back room. We’re about two weeks behind on filing. After that, if you can just check in each person as he or she comes in, that would be great. It’s super easy—” Kaitlyn led her up the small hallway “—mostly just grab the name and give them a time slot. Joe and I will both be administering vaccines to move faster.” She pointed to a row of filing cabinets.

“Uh-huh.” Kara rubbed the back of her neck. She felt flushed all of a sudden.

“What is it?” Kaitlyn arched an eyebrow. “Are you okay?”

“I really hate shots… The thought of so many people coming through here for that one purpose makes me shiver.” Kara shook off a round of goosebumps.

“Don’t think about it right now. Focus on the folders. I’ll come back and check on you in a few. We’re not starting until eleven o’clock, so you’ve got plenty of time. I have to draw them all up, so we should finish at about the same time.” Kaitlyn patted her arm encouragingly, then left the room. It was small but held several dozen cabinets. Kara would be lucky to finish by eleven.

  * * *

“Kara? Hey, it’s quarter to eleven…” Kaitlyn entered the back room just as Kara finished with the last file. “Oh! Yay! I’m so happy! I can actually find things again.”

“Huh? Oh, yeah.” Kara grinned. “There were tons of files out. It was no big deal. I like organizing… all those little letters… so much fun.”

“It’s really going to help us out a lot! Joe wanted to see you in his office. It’s the third door on the right.” The petite brunette smiled warmly at her. “I’d love if you came in once a week.”

“I’m pretty freaked out right now. I don’t like being in any sort of medical office, but I like you and Dr. Joe a lot. I’ll think about it.”

Kara moved past her into the hall and found the door Kaitlyn mentioned. She knocked on it once and waited for the doctor to tell her to come in.

“Hey. Come in and shut the door. I have a favor to ask you.”

Dr. Joe smiled as she followed his instructions. She took a seat across from his desk. “Sure, what is it?”

He threw a glance to the door to confirm it was shut, then focused on her. “Kaitlyn’s birthday party is tomorrow. Total fairy princess theme.”

Kara nodded, unsure what that had to do with her. “That sounds lovely.”

“I hired a woman to come paint faces, and her son got sick. She can’t make it. I know you’re super creative. Brody told me about some of the artistic projects you work on. Can you face paint?”

Kara giggled a nervous laugh. His face looked so sincere, so different than the stern doctor who’d told her to bend over a few days ago. “I can. I mean, I used to as a side job after I graduated high school, but that was a while ago. But do you really think I’m fairy princess material?”

“I think anyone can be a fairy princess. I’m sure you could put together a cute outfit. I’d even go as far to guess that you have wings somewhere.” Dr. Joe waggled his eyebrows. “Please? I’ll give you money for the paint, of course. I just don’t want to let Kaitlyn down.”

At the mention of her name, Kara tried to picture how she would react when she heard about the lack of an epic fairy princess face painter. Her lower lip trembled at the thought. “That’s not playing fair. You know how much I like Kaitlyn.”

“I never said I played fair.” Dr. Joe gave her pleading eyes. “It’s only for two hours. You can stay for dinner once everyone else leaves. I’m sure someone there will want a Hello-Kitty on her cheek.”

“You also know how much I like that pretty cat.” She rolled her eyes playfully. “Okay, okay. I owe you both anyway for taking such good care of me.”

“No, you don’t. We’re both just really good at that. To be serious, I really don’t think I can find anyone else on such short notice, and I knew mentioning Hello-Kitty would get you thinking!” Dr. Joe tugged out his wallet, opened it, and fished out two twenties. “If the supplies are more, just let me know and I’ll make up the difference.”

Kara reached forward, accepted the cash, and pocketed it. “I have one more question. You’re not letting me leave today without a flu shot, are you?”

“Probably not, but I was going to mention that way later.” Dr. Joe shrugged. “It’s still optional, even though it’s highly suggested this time of year. If you decide to come in a few times a week, it will be mandatory.”

“Ugh!” Kara rose from the chair and rolled her eyes again. “I didn’t say I’d come back. This could be a one-time only thing. I really, really hate medical places.”

“I think being here, in a really positive environment, might help you get over that fear. But it’s up to you.”

“Thanks, Dr. Joe. I’ll let you know later.” Kara nodded before she stepped to the door, opened it, and went out into the hallway. Only five minutes until the office opened for flu shots. She imagined it would be a mad house.

Kara came home after being at the doctor’s office all day, and she crashed on the couch. So many of the patients had visited in younger mindsets, and they’d acted exactly how you would expect a child to act. It had felt strangely satisfying to hand them lollypops and stickers at the end of the visit. She liked how each one of them had smiled at her and made her feel important—as if her gesture made up for the shot!

Brody came in from the kitchen and joined her on the couch. He set three large bags on the coffee table and nudged her leg. “Hey, babe. I picked up something for you.”

Kara groaned as she pulled herself into a sitting position. She kissed his cheek, though, and smiled. “Thanks. What is it?” She tugged the largest bag to her
and peeked inside. Face paints, brushes, sponges, glitter, and containers! “Oh! Brody!”

“Joe called me this afternoon and let me know about the party tomorrow. I think it’s a great idea. Kaitlyn will be so surprised. Oh, and he told me he wants you to keep the money he gave you. You worked so hard today.”

“I got a shot too,” Kara pouted, but peeked in the other two bags. More supplies. She spied stickers, fake rhinestones, and eyelash glue to attach them! “These are fantastic!”

“You willingly agreed to get a flu shot? I’m really proud of you. Does that mean you’re going to go to the office more often?” Brody smiled as she let out a sigh of contentment.

“Well, I’m not sure about it yet, but it’s a good idea to do something preventative to ward off sickness.” Kara let go of the bags and curled herself up on Brody. “Thank you for encouraging me to go there. I really felt like they needed my help. Plus, I got to talk to Kaitlyn a lot today!”

“You’re welcome, babe. I’m happy you went there today. I made dinner, so let’s go eat. You can tell me more about the party.”

Kara nodded. “I’m going to go get in my pj’s, but then I’ll be right down.” She kissed him sweetly once more, then stood up. “Tomorrow will be great too.”

“All right. I’ll be here.” Brody winked. “I also picked up those brownie bars you like so much and fresh strawberries.”

“Perfect! Be right back.” Kara danced up the stairs. Even after her long day, she was in one of the best moods she’d been in in a long time.

  Chapter Seven

Kara returned home from the birthday party covered in paint and in a slightly foul mood. She loved how happy Kaitlyn had been to see her, but a group of women all in seven to twelve-year-old mindsets had certainly tested her patience. It was like baby-sitting for her siblings all over again.

Kara changed her clothes into two differently colored knee highs, along with her short black boots to balance out the black and pink plaid mini-skirt and black graphic tee-shirt. Her hair was then done in a high ponytail with a bright ribbon wrapped around the elastic. While collecting her make-up, she got into an argument with Brody, and he took away the privilege of wearing any. He knew how much she loved her make-up! So she settled on a sparkly chapstick with a bit of sheen, then clomped downstairs.

After fifteen minutes of whining about not having anything to do, she was sent out to take a walk. After another ten minutes of protesting, and a light spanking, Brody practically kicked her out the door.

Snow showers threatened later on in the day, but for now it was dry and only a little chilly. Kara wandered along the street and made her way to the playground. She scanned the area, hoping to find someone hanging out from the teenage crowd, but she didn’t see anyone.

Happy her clothes were warm enough so she didn’t need a heavy coat, Kara pulled her fur-lined Hello-kitty hoodie up over her head, then moved towards the edge of the fence. She hadn’t gone far when something smacked her hard in the shin. Tears blurred her vision from the quick blow, and she blinked them away.

What the hell had hit her?

A woman about her age stood with her hands over her mouth and a look of horror on her face. “I’m so sorry!”

Kara looked down to see a purple skip-it toy looped around the woman’s ankle, then she looked back up to her face. It was mostly her own fault, Kara decided, for not paying attention to what she was doing. She could have knocked the poor thing right over!

“No! It’s okay. I wasn’t watching where I was going.” She knew this was a great opportunity to introduce herself, but what if she wanted to be left alone? The toy looked so much fun though, and finally, after thirty awkward seconds, she pointed to it. “Do you think I could try?”

“Yeah, sure. Just don’t break it.” The other woman took the object off her foot then reached down and clasped it around Kara’s foot. “It’s super easy. Just swing it around and hop over this part.”

“I’m Kara.” Kara extended her hand. “It’s nice to meet you.”

“I’m Bailey.” The woman straightened to shake her hand, then stepped back. “Go ahead and try it. It will count how many jumps you do.”

“I’ll try not to hit you!” Kara grinned and began hopping. After a few minutes of Bailey cheering her on and giggling at the game, she stopped. Something had changed in the air and the wind had picked up. Some flurries fell around them, and she knew it would be a long, cold walk home. Kara quickly undid the toy and handed it back to Bailey. “It got cold really fast!”

“Come on! My house is just over there. You can come over.” Bailey pointed across the way and the two of them took off. “My daddy won’t mind.”

Kara nodded as she hurriedly followed her new friend. She hadn’t made many in their community, so being invited over, even for the purpose of getting out of the snow, made her giddy with excitement. “I’ll call and get picked up. Thank you!”

  * * *

Brody picked her up from Bailey’s house after he finished work as she’d wound up staying for most of the afternoon. Kara got into the car, then leaned over to plant a kiss on his cheek.

“I made a friend.” She smiled sheepishly. “Her name is Bailey, and she’s really sweet. I met her daddy Ian, too. They, uh, do some of the things we do.”

“I’m really happy you met someone to hang out with. I missed a call while I was in a virtual meeting, and the voicemail was from him. He asked me to give him a call back and let him know if you are allowed to have a sleepover tomorrow.” Brody reached over and patted her thigh. “Do you want Bailey to come over?”

Kara nodded excitedly. “Yes! I’ve never experienced a real sleepover. Bailey is going to bring movies, and we’re going to stay up late! Then we can have breakfast and hang out,” she concluded with a grin.

“It sounds like you’ve got it all planned out. I’ll call Ian back when we get home and finalize things. Aren’t you happy I made you go outside today?”

She giggled as he moved his hand to her nose and tapped it twice. “Yes, daddy.”

“Good. I’m also proud of you for being so responsible this afternoon. You let me know what happened immediately and made a good decision to stay out of the weather.” He smiled warmly at her.

“I hope you remember this tomorrow night! Bailey and I were giggling like crazy today. You know how loud I laugh.”

“Sweetheart, you’re still going to be respectful of the rules. Giggling is fine, but no funny business.” He waggled his eyebrows at her. “I mean it.”

“Okay, okay.” She held her hands up, palms out in surrender. “We’ll behave!”

They pulled in to the driveway and ended the conversation. She knew Brody meant what he said, but tomorrow it would be about her and Bailey and their amazing sleepover adventure.

  * * *

Kara was on pins and needles as she waited for Bailey to come over. She had never had a real sleepover before, and though it sounded silly, she wanted everything to go right. Brody had promised to take care of dinner and said that he would be on his best behavior.

His best behavior! As if he ever acted up.

Kara walked through the kitchen about a dozen times until Brody chased her out with a wooden spoon. He was making spaghetti sauce and told her it would be super easy to find another spoon. She retreated, clutching her behind and squealing. She did not want any of that! Especially before her friend came over.

Finally, she saw Bailey nervously walking up the stairs towards the house. She kept stopping and glancing over her shoulder. Did she change her mind and not want to stay?

Kara bit her lip and tried to shake off her own nerves. Then with a huge smile, she opened the door and called out to greet her new friend, “Hi, Bailey! I’m super happy your daddy said you could come over.”

Bailey arrived on the porch, bags in hand, and smiled a little. “Thanks. I’m excited.”

The other woman didn’t seem too excited, but she imagined it was a slightly awkward situation for bo
th of them. They were grown women as it were, and both had confessed the want to relive a younger, happier time.

Kara didn’t have too many happy moments from her childhood, and she had told Bailey about some of the harder things she’d experienced. Then they’d both decided at that moment to have an even better than high school sleepover! Of course, now that they were both standing in the doorway, looking at each other, it seemed uncomfortable.

Brody, always knowing just what to say, made his way to the front door and urged Bailey to come inside. “It’s cold out, ladies. You’re letting all the heat out.”

Kara shut and locked the door.

“Thanks. The bill is high enough without leaving doors open.” He went back into the kitchen and they followed. He paused to wipe his hands on the towel hanging from the stove before he checked the sauce.

  “I’m Bailey.”

Brody frowned. “What terrible manners I have.” He turned around and shook Bailey’s hand. “I’m Brody. It’s nice to meet you.” He released her hand and smiled warmly at the two of them.

“We’re going to watch lots of movies and stay up late and eat junk food.” Kara shot a look to Bailey, who nodded.

“Yeah? What movies?” Brody raised an eyebrow. “Are they rated R?”

Ugh! He was acting like a total… well… like a total party pooper. Except, Kara wanted him to be interested in her plans. She wanted him to question her decisions when she was in a younger mindset, but she hadn’t planned on him doing that in front of her friend.

“What movies did you bring, Bailey?” Kara popped the question over to her since her own movie collection was filled with romantic comedies and they had vetoed those down earlier.
