Hampton did not attempt to visit Stuart on his deathbed. He stayed with Lee’s army as they dueled with Grant. He knew very little in fact, just that Stuart went after Sheridan, and was surprised to find out on May 12, 1864, that his commander had been slain and his men routed near Richmond. Despite some differences, the men had an excellent working relationship and admired one another. Hampton issued a general order on May 16th that stated as much.
There were a few locations that stand out that I took liberty with: Shady Grove Methodist Church, Davidson Farmhouse, and Yellow Tavern.
The small church where Stuart met with his commanders before riding in pursuit of Sheridan was fictionalized. I gave credit to a nearby Shady Grove Methodist Church, but I was unable to locate the name of the actual church. The Davidson Farmhouse was completely fictional. Yellow Tavern was an actual abandoned establishment and no longer stands.
I sincerely hope that you enjoyed this novel as Wolf’s story continues and our nation continues to bleed. If it isn’t apparent yet, Wolf still has more of a tale to tell. Please be on the lookout for the next novel in the series.
Best,
Daniel Greene

A special thanks to all those who’ve contributed to the creation of this novel. A novel is a huge feat and would remain as a file cluttering my desktop without the contributions of so many wonderfully supportive people. This includes my dedicated Alpha Readers, Greene’s Recon Team, Greene Army, my editor Lisa, my cover artist Tim, Polgarus formatters, and especially my readers. Without readers, this is an unheard/unread tale. I can’t wait to share more stories with you in the future.
