Everything would hinge on Cade and if he could remember what information he had stolen for his client the night he’d was shot. If he could, then maybe the congressman could be prevented from pulling the rug out from under those shopkeepers and residents in the district. Besides, who else would take up the cause for them?
She knew without a doubt it had to be something powerful for her mentor and friend, Glen Walker, to detest Congressman Owen. The fact that he’d never mentioned anything to her about it only reinforced that something caused Glen to distrust the man. She would have to do her own checking. One thing was for certain…she trusted Glen’s instincts and knew he must have been onto something big, and now she needed to know what it was.
It was a long shot she was willing to take.
Valerie was also struggling with a way she could help Cade remember. It would be a self-serving task but one that could also provide some answers. She would have to go into a trance, purposely, to see Glen. The thought of doing that and seeing her beloved friend brought on a renewed wave of grief so strong, she wrapped her arms around her quaking stomach.
The only place Valerie felt safe to go into a trance was in her home. She expected it to be quite emotional for her, if she was to see Glen—to hear his voice, and to see his handsome face, and knowing that he was truly gone from her life. Her real life, that was.
But Cade was there, in her home.
Did she trust him to believe in her gift and to believe that she would do this selfless act to help him? Actually, she wanted to know what information Glen was onto about Owen, a man who, according to Sarah, Glen detested and didn’t trust.
She couldn’t just spring her idea on Cade, though. He already believed she had some loose screws, mentally.
She had to convince him that by going into a trance, it could lead to the truth about his mission concerning Owen and, ultimately, who had shot him in an effort to keep that mission from coming to light.
After what seemed like an eternity of pondering if she should go into a trance, Valerie sat back. “I’ll do it,” she murmured.
But first, she had to clear up two work commitments, and she’d wait a few days until Cade fully recovered.
THE END
